Focusing upon Eliade's study of religion, we can obtain the following perspective, with which to differentiate two planes of his argument. Discussed first is his theory of religious phenomena: the paradoxically constituted theory of religious experience and behavior. His argument of religious experience, categorized as hierophany, is paradoxical in that the sacred manifests itself in the profane, which restricts the former within the temporality of history. His argument of religious behavior is viewed in terms of the succession of death and rebirth. Both in shamanism and in yoga, the shaman and the yogin transcend history by symbolic death, as does the initiate in initiation. Thus, symbolic rebirth paradoxically necessitates symbolic death. Discussed next is his background of religious theory : the reintegration into the primordial interpreted in his religious symbolism by abolishing history. This recurrence of reintegration can be related to his thought on the origin of time and history. In his thought, human beings'restricted condition within time and history arises from their fall from paradise. This paradise lost also causes his nostalgia for that reintegration. These two planes are bridged with his view on the sacred in relation.to human beings as being ambiguous. The ambiguity is understood as follows. As the sacred transcendentally involves a negative phase, human beings have an ambivalence toward the sacred. In other words, the dual-phased sacred fascinates and terrifies us. Furthermore, that ambiguity, in Eliade's view, springs from the paradox in human beings'nature. We can almost state, moreover, that his view of-the ambiguity of the sacred originates with the fall of human beings from paradise ( and the totality of the sacred ) to the temporality of history.

Kyushu University established the Department of Library Science at the Graduate School of Integrated Frontier Sciences in April 2011. In the current rapidly changing information environment, we need to provide new models of information process, management and services. Our department offers integrated programs in library and information science, archival study, and records management. The curriculum includes theoretical, methodological, and practical elements. We also collaborate with the University Library and Archives and other related institutions. For example, one active librarian at the University Library is involved with our department as a fulltime lecturer, and other librarians teach students about cutting-edge information services and systems in academic libraries, such as cataloging, e-resource management, institutional repositories, university digital collections, and discovery services. Our department also is sending students to the Library as internship. We believe that this attempt benefits both students and librarians. In the future, the department hopes to get active librarians in other libraries as students and expand exchange with different researchers, students, and librarians.

Photoemission process leaves the target system in several final states that are lacking one electron with respect to the initial state. Except for the trivial noninteracting case, the final state effect leads to nontrivial features in the photoemission electron spectroscopy (PES). They are distinguished as the main feature and its satellites. In this issue, we discuss the satellite features in PES when the final state is reached by the extended excitations, that is, corresponding to the collective excitations of charges, spins, or vibrations. In particular, we focus on the basic PES problems of the metallic system with the Fermi sea of conduction electrons. : 光電子放出過程によって,試料構成系は始状態に比べて電子が一つ少ないいくつかの終状態に至る.相互作用のない場合を除いて,この終状態の効果によって光電子分光(PES)に顕著な構造が見られることになる.これらの構造は主ピークとは別にサテライトとして区別される.本稿では,拡張励起,すなわち電荷やスピン,あるいは格子振動の集団励起を経て終状態に至った場合にPE スペクトルに見られるサテライト構造について議論する.特に,伝導電子によるフェルミの海をもつ金属系の基本的なPES 問題に焦点を絞って議論する.
