A special geminate like ff in maffa "pillow", which does not exist in the Standard Japanese (SJ), is found in the Antoh dialect in Fukui Prefecture. This paper deals with the synchronic and diachronic phenomena concerning the ff geminate in addition to bb and ss. This paper has the following purposes: (1) to illustrate the correspondence of geminates between the Antoh dialect and SJ, (2) to investigate the historical development of the geminates in the Antoh dialect, (3) to point out that the manifestation of the geminates in the Antoh dialect is similar to that of the Miyakojima dialect in the Ryukyuan language, and (4) to propose that the explanation for the process of the geminate in this dialect gives a suggestive source to the discussion on the processes of sound changes in the Ryukyuan language.

The Oki Islands, Shimane Prefecture, are considered the only area which has three-pattern accentuation in Mainland Japan, although it has been reported that several dialects of the Ryukyuan language have three-pattern accentuation. However, I have discovered three-pattern accentuation also exists in the Kokonogi dialect, Fukui Prefecture, which is located east of the Oki Islands. This paper will first describe the accent system of this dialect and verify that the dialect has some of the characteristics peculiar to N-pattern accent systems. However, the dialect does not have consistency of accent pattern in forms of the verb conjugation, something observed in some dialects with an N-pattern accent system. Finally, I will try to give a historical reason for this inconsistency by showing the correspondences between the verbal accentuation of the Kokonogi dialect and those of the Kochi dialect, which retains older accent forms than the Kyoto dialect.

本研究では以下の2点を実施した。(1) 日本各地の方言の談話音声データを整備し、諸方言を横断的に検索することが可能な「日本語諸方言コーパス(COJADS)」を作成・公開した。COJADSは、文化庁が1977年から1985年にかけて行った「各地方言収集緊急調査」の談話データをソースとし、国語研が開発した検索アプリケーション「中納言」で検索するように設計されている。(2) (1)で構築したCOJADSを使って、「日本語諸方言における主語、目的語の標示形式の地域差に関する研究」や「丁寧形式「デス」の用法の地域差に関する研究」等を行い、データに基づく方言研究の例を提示した。

本研究は、石川県白峰方言の共時的な記述を行うことを主たる目的とし、方言語彙の資料の整備を行うことを目指した。また、白峰方言は、日本語史の観点から見ても重要な方言であるため、中央語との関わりに注目しながら、次の調査研究を行った。1.形容詞語幹の長母音の記述と変化の研究白峰方言の形容詞は、ターキャ(高い)、サービ(寒い)など語幹に長母音をもっている。これらの形容詞活用の形態とアクセントを記述した。また、この現象は、新潟県北部・中部、長野県秋山郷、島根県隠岐地方、大分県国東半島付近、高知市、和歌山県西南部にみられる。これらのうち、大部分がすでに先年度、新田によって調査が行われたが、まだ未調査の和歌山県田辺市において調査を行い、これらの現象を確認し、その記述を行った。これまでの調査を含めて導かれる結論は次のとおりである。(a)これらの長母音は、「独立語基>ウ音便の融合母音をもつ語基>その他の語基」の順に多く現れ、出現に包含関係が見られる。(b)これらの長母音は短母音より歴史的に古く、語内部の後続の融合母音が出現する環境で保たれる傾向にあった。(c)長母音のかわりに、促音・撥音が現れる方言があるが、これらも長母音から発生したものである。2.民話・自然談話などの録音資料のテキスト研究当方言で語られる民話の採取を行い、テキストを作成した。また、『NHK全国方言資料』の白峰の部分の改訂と注釈を行った。3.基礎語彙調査当方言の基礎語彙の調査を行った。「天候・気象」、「動物」の分野について形態・意味・用法について記述を行った。4.アクセント資料の作成当方言の動詞、形容詞について、アクセント資料を作成した。

研究期間を通じて、福岡県宗像市鐘崎から移住し、閉鎖的な社会を保ってきた輪島市海士町の「言語の島」の様子について、海士町のルーツ問題、アスペクト形式「ヨル」、語末母音と助詞の母音融合、アクセント体系、人称詞等について、考察を行った。移住と言語の関係について、ルーツの側の言語がどんどん変化していく一方で、移住先の言語がむしろ古形を保存する興味深い現象が見られた。その一方で能登方言の特徴を取り込みながら、閉鎖的な社会の中で独自の変化を遂げた特徴の存在も明らかになった。

本研究では、福井県安島方言に見られる特異な重子音の研究、および風位語彙の体系について重点的に取り扱った。重子音については、その共時的・通時的な現象に関して、(1) 安島方言と標準語の対応関係を明らかにし(2) 重子音の歴史的な変化を推定し(3) 琉球宮古方言との類似性を指摘し、琉球語の歴史研究に寄与することを述べたまた、風位語彙については、「風の移ろい」という概念を導入することにより、風位語彙の内容を詳しく具現化できることを明らかにした。

The authors have discovered various types of three-pattern accent systems exist in the coastal area of the northeast of Fukui Pref., although it was considered in previous studies that dialects in the area have only two accent patterns or they have no lexical distinction of accent. This paper will outline accent systems of the three dialects (Kuriya, Kitagata, Antoh) and describe the characteristics of each dialect regarding domain of accent assignment or accent rules found in the process of suffixation or compounding. Also comparisons between the dialects will reveal what characteristics are commonly shared and which ones are not.

本研究の目的は世界の諸言語(とりわけ韓国語諸方言、中国語諸方言、アフリカのバンツー諸語)と比較することにより類型論的観点から日本語諸方言のアクセントを考察し、その特質を明らかにすることである。この目的を達成するために年度ごとに重点テーマ(借用語のアクセント、疑問文のプロソディー、アクセント・トーンの中和、アクセント・トーンの変化)を設定し、それぞれのテーマについて諸言語、諸方言の構造・特徴を明らかにした。これらのテーマを議論するために4回の国際シンポジウムを開催し、海外の研究者とともに日本語のアクセント構造について考察するとともに、その成果をLingua特集号を含む国内外の研究誌に発表した。
