As of 2021, the demand for online lectures has increased, and it has become difficult to understand students′ learning status in programming practice classes. Therefore, to effectively enhance learners′ motivation and ability even in online lectures, we developed an online programming environment that allows teachers to monitor how learners are programming in real-time. Our environment is flexible enough to support practical application development exercises, and the operation logs are recorded in detail. We introduced our environment to a hybrid lecture, including online and face-to-face lectures, and the analysis results showed some tendencies, such as the higher the grade, the more often the program was executed. The questionnaire survey results showed that about 90% of the students gave a positive opinion, but some improvements were found to be necessary. In the future, we will work on implementing features that were deemed necessary to improve the quality of the lecture.

Approximately 8% enter Universities of Technology among students who graduate from all Colleges of Technology in Japan every year. Students of the College of Technology own an unknown good point. Therefore, it forms the traditional character of the University of Technology after entrance to the university. When we discuss their future that they will work in, we have a responsibility to plan a strategy about what the College of Technology and the University of Technology should do now and to learn the situation of the countries around Japan.

本研究は,科学技術英語における受動態に焦点を当てて,どのような談話環境において受動態が能動態より好まれるのか,又,能動態が受動態よりも好まれるのかを考察した。Brogan(1973),Tarone et. al(1981),Turk and Kirkman(1989)等の先行研究を基にして,本研究は,科学技術英語において安易に受動態の頻繁な使用を受け入れるのではなく,より妥当な受動態の使用に関する考え方を提示した。本研究は,特に,次の二点を主要な結論として引き出した。それらは,受動態が使用されるところで,(1)"We+一般動詞"の使用,(2)主語の擬人化,"抽象,無生物主語+一般動詞"の使用等によって,文を能動態にし簡潔化することである。動作主(agent)を省いた受動態の使用は,確かに文に対して客観性を持たせる事が出来て,動作,行為,等に読者の注意を直接向けるという意味においては効果的ではあるが,科学技術英語において,受動態の多用,乱用は決して好ましいものではない。受動態の代わりに,先に述べた(1)(2)の使用をもっと積極的に取り入れていく事が肝要である。

We constructed VR system that enables mutual criticism while experiencing the students′ architectural design works in full scale. The features of this VR system are the following two points; multiplayer mode in which multiple people can view as avatars at the same time was realized, and a parameter of occlusion culling for smooth drawing was clearly given. We asked university students of architecture to try mutual critique of their architectural design works using this VR system. As a result, not only design concept of each building but also a lot of detail ideas on their building surface were mutually conveyed.

In recent years, quite a number of higher educational institutions putemphasis on cultivating human quality among their students. However, it is difficult to let students make voluntary and creative action for themselves. One of the major reasons for students not to be positive for enhancing human senses is that they have the tendency not to think of themselves as valuable being. Human behavior and emotion are based on self-image. As long as students have negative recognition of themselves, it will be difficult to do learning positively. In this paper how human behavior is affected by self-image is shown and a way of communication to elicit appropriate behavior is discussed on the base of the principle of behavioral science.

This essay historically evaluates the development of the techno-literacy issue, the demand for which surfaced in the engineering education reform around 1990, especially in the 1989 report, Engineering Education in the Transitional Phase. In the discussion, techno-literacy was based on engineering design theories, and in a broader sense, included the study of humanities and social sciences to cultivate well-balanced judgment with a broader knowledge of artificially systematized societies. In the late 1990s, the discussion faded into oblivion, with an increased focus on engineering ethics. However, similar discussions have been raised since the 2000s, emphasizing technological innovation with citizen participation. Given the historical analysis, it is possible to consistently understand Japan’s introduction of social technology (or sociotechnology) and ELSI in the 2000s and provide guidelines for developing engineering ethics education as a liberal arts subject.

A study process to obtain a qualification has a profound effect to enhance learning of one’ s particular field. In this paper, we propose a method encourage students to obtain the qualification of Type II electrical worker in National College of Technology. Results of questionnaire survey and hearing investigation have confirmed a large positive effect on students’ mental health, especially for the adolescent students who had low confidence in their Engineering skill. In addition, this paper discusses the influence of the modification in the entrance exam system as of this year.

In this paper, we analyzed the features of the adoption strategy in creating Japanese technological terms, by comparing with those of other Asian countries. In addition, we investigated how those technological terms are used differently in each engineering field. As a result, in adopting technological terms, phonetic adoption is found more often in Japan (especially in the new research fields like IT) . In contrast, semantic adoption is found more often in China and Vietnam. It is also found that architecture field shares many terms with civil engineering, and electrical field shares many terms with communication. Those findings are quite useful to the engineering education for foreign students.

In order to get students in engineering courses to acquire a good command of English, a coursework named “English for Engineers” has been offered to senior students in the department of mechanical engineering of Mie University. The authors place much value on the coursework from the viewpoints of acquiring the ability of (1) accurate pronunciations in accordance with phonetic symbols, and (2) a series of translations from a word-for-word translation to a free one. To make the coursework more effective, the authors have developed an e-learning system. The system supports teachers in engineering departments who are normally non-professionals in English education. The results showed that the proposed system is effective for comprehending the importance on the above-mentioned two viewpoints.

In this paper, we focused on researchers in the engineering field and examined the relationship between career self-reliance and the experience of writing research papers. We conducted a questionnaire survey on the research paper writing experience and career self-reliance for researchers in the engineering field who had experience as professors in higher education institutions. As a result, we found that “A sense of achievement and growth experience gained by writing a research paper” affects both “Psychological aspects of career self-reliance” and “Behavioral aspects of career self-reliance”. Especially, the survey results demonstrated that “A sense of achievement and growth experience gained by writing a research paper” affects “Professional self-efficacy” and “Adaptation behavior to changes in the work environment”.

In this paper, we report a case study of project-based learning (PBL). PBL aims to allow students to experience collaboration across disciplines. The class comprised several teams, each of which consisted of students belonging to different departments. First, the students learned biomimetics prior to PBL and attempted to develop new commercial goods with the knowledge gained. The teams could make full use of the university’s facilities, such as 3D printers, to produce objects precisely. The students’ final results included the development of a propeller for hydropower or a drone. The students evaluated themselves using a rubric that we specifically developed for the class. The evaluation confirmed that the students became aware of the need and importance of teamwork.

工学備理教育では,(1)近代工学が社会に与えた精神界への打撃,労働の追放,環境の破壊などの事実内容についての講義,(2)工学倫理の自然科学的合理性,工学の社会に対する合目的性,工学の一方向性などの考え方についての講義,及び(3)原子爆弾投下,エイズ問題,遺伝子操作による動物の飼育などの主要な事例研究と演習,さらに(4)工学倫理組合の結成,労働形態の変更など社会生活への働きかけの可否などの講義と討論をもとに構成するのが適当であると考えられる。また,工学的内容を持つ事例の講義とその倫理学的哲学的内容を教授することが必要な工学倫理教育では複数の教育者の共同教育が必要であろう。

Enhancement of communication and teamwork skills are important themes in higher education. For example, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) have adopted these skills as significant criteria in their accreditation program. They are also listed in generic skills as the significant competence of students. Gunma University’s School of Science and Technology implemented an Employability Program from 2010 as a requirement for all first-year students. Under the auspices of this program, coursework in career planning and career design are offered to enhance student abilities in these areas. This study focuses on the enhancement of communication and teamwork skills through group discussions and poster presentations based on problem surveys. Student perceptions of communication skills and teamwork were investigated through a questionnaire. Results showed that students perceived improvement in those vital skills.

This paper reports the establishment and practical results of the first trial of the spacecraft thermal design hands-on training program for the general public. This training is part of the two-week educational program that aims to find and grow up the potential people who are interested in commercial space utilization. The thermal design and its evaluation are some of the most difficult points for novices of the space industry. The program consists of the basic classroom lecture focusing on the differences from the thermal design of the normal commercial equipment and two kinds of hands-on training helping the students understanding. The hands-on training aims to evaluate thermal radiation properties. The training consists of the measurement with the standard instruments and thermal-vacuum test. The effectiveness of the whole training program is evaluated based on the questionnaire results from the students.
