障害者福祉として, 視線を利用した入力装置が, さまざまな研究機関で開発されている.しかし, 特殊な機器や複雑な設定が必要であり, 瞳の微動に対応し難い等の問題点がある.そこで本研究では, これらの改善を試み, 普及しやすいシステムを試作した.

The purpose of this study was to examine the fusion area in a real image and binocular disparity when the viewing distance was changed. As a result, when the viewing distance was short, the fusion area in the real image increased. However, the fusion area in the binocular disparity image did not increase as it did in the real image. Since the depth of field with the real image was shallow when the viewing distance was short, it was easy to perceive blurring. In binocular disparity images, since images of the front and back are not blurred, it is impossible to expand the fusion area of binocular disparity, to confirm whether it is expanded by blurring, we measured the fusion area when the binocular disparity image is blurred. As a result, the fusion area of binocular disparity was wider than in the real image when binocular disparity image was blurred.

We propose a new method in which scents are emitted through the display screen in the direction of the viewer to enhance the reality effect of the visual images. A thin LED display panel filled with tiny pores was made for this experiment and an air control system with a blower was placed behind the screen. We experimentally proved that the direction of airflow could be controlled and scents could properly travel through the pores to the front side of the screen aimed at the viewer. The effectiveness of the scents and the psychological effects were evaluated by the subjects' biological responses and answers to a questionnaire. By analyzing their biological responses, more significant changes in skin conductance were detected when the advertisements were presented with visuals and scents than with visuals alone. Therefore, we had a lot of good reasons to objectively evaluate the psychological effects of visuals with scents.

Tracking objects at a distance is a problem in wide area surveillance. This paper introduces a realtime active vision system that can track a moving object from 1 to 200 meters. This visual servo system is mainly structured with three mechanical freedoms: pan, tilt and zoom. An eagle eye mechanism is proposed to obtain a wide field of view and high resolution on the target. A fusion scheme has also been developed that combines the results of the three separate zoom cameras to detect and track remote targets. A high performance pan-tilt unit and an algorithm of high frequency motor control are proposed to achieve smooth tracking. The experiments of tracking a person walking outdoors and indoors have been carried out. The results show that this system is valid for tracking in a wide area.

Colors in nature can be classified into two categories: colors which originate in pigments (coloring matter) and structural colors, which are caused by optical path differences at the level of microscopic structures. Structural colors change according to viewing angles and lighting conditions. This paper proposes a generic method for rendering structural colors in real time. The proposed method's use of optical path differences as common parameters enables unified treatment of various types of microscopic structures and representation by textures that store optical path differences, which can speed up rendering. The proposed method can be applied to object of arbitrary shapes and enables rendering from random viewing angles and lighting conditions in real time.
