In order to manufacture micromachines, development of micromanipulation is indispensable. This paper treats micro handling tools as end-effectors of a micromanipulation system, and introduces three prototypes of nontweezing tools : air-sucking, electrostatically charged, and surface-tensional ones. These three can handle microparts (l0 to 500 μm in length). In particular, they can perfectly release the microparts with several methods, such as ultrasonic vibration. Through theiractual usage, we confirm the validity of the tools for micromanipulation.

Toughening mechanisms of three types of rubber toughened poly (methyl methacrylate) (RT-PMMA) were investigated under mode I loading condition by optical and electron microscopies in conjunction with the quantitative evaluation of mode I fracture toughness. Polarized optical microscopy clearly exhibited damage zone development ahead of a crack-tip of the RT-PMMAs. The three RT-PMMAs revealed different shapes of the damage zone. Transmission electron microscopy exhibited microcrazes nucleated in the equator of rubber particles within the damage zones. Extensive deformation of rubber particles corresponding to localized shear yielding of the PMMA matrix was also found in a region close to a propagating crack-tip. In addition, cavitation of rubber particles was observed in the vicinity of the crack. It is therefore understood that the toughening of the RT-PMMAs is due to energy dissipation caused by the microdamage formations such as microcrazing, matrix shear deformation and rubber particle cavitation ahead of the crack-tip.

Small-scale reusable sounding rocket system is under development to provide means of stratosphere observation and three-minutes microgravity experiment. The propulsion system is a hybrid type that uses solid fuel (plastics) and liquid oxygen as propellants and free from explosives, resulting in the dramatically reduced launch cost. To enhance the burning rate of the solid fuel and to augment the thrust, the rocket has employed a new fuel grain design. This new design, named CAMUI as an abbreviation of "Cascaded Multistage Impinging-jet", allows mixing and combustion to occur around stagnation points on fuel surfaces. Successful launch experiments using a 50-kgf CAMUI engine have proved the feasibility of the basic idea of the system. Finally, possible configurations of the stratosphere observation vehicle and the microgravity test vehicle are presented.

This paper describes the vibration control of a plate using a piezoelectric element as a self-sensing actuator. By using self-sensing actuator techniques, one piezoelectric element, which is bonded on the face of the plate, gets the information of the vibration of the plate, and produces control input simultaneously. The control input signal is generated by the adaptive control system with the filtered-X LMS algorithm. Experimental investigations are performed and the results show that the vibration level is successfully reduced at a broad frequency band.

2009年8月6日から8日にかけて日本機械学会関西支部設計製図教育研究懇話会主催の夏休み設計セミナーが開催された.本セミナーは2001年より企業の技術者,学生,教員から構成される混成チームでボランティアとして活動しており,2008年度からは日本機械学会関西支部設計製図教育研究懇話会に企画を一任している.本論文では2009年度の夏休みセミナーの様子をはじめとしたセミナーの取組み・成果について紹介し,さらに今年度より取組んだ新たな試みについて述べる.

Plated alloy have been attempted to improve heat and wear resistance and insulation properties of machine parts. Particularly alloy of nickel and phosphorus(Ni-P) have benefit for the mold of glass or plastic lens which have property of highly heat and wear resistance. Ordinarily the plated Ni-P is made by a process of electroless plating. In this study, I used the plated Ni-P which made by a process of electroplating. In this process, a plated alloy can contain more amount of phosphorus. Single crystal diamond turning experiment for the cylindrical end face plated electrolytic Ni-P was carried out, and analyzed the potential of ultra precision cutting of electrolytic Ni-P and the effect of amount of content phosphorous. It was turned out that Electrolytic Ni-P have potentiality to be worked as electroless Ni-P, and to improve the surface roughness by the increase of the amount of content phosphorous.

Large-eddy simulation of a turbulent premixed flame in an engine is performed in a wide range of operating conditions such as engine speed, airfuel ratio, and ignition timing. A numerical method for estimating supergrid fluctuations of physical quantities and the space-averaged quantities accurately is proposed. As the subgrid estimations, the Yakhot-Orszag turbulence model based on the renormalization group theory and a flamesheet model are employed. For some variations of the operating conditions, obtained computational data agree well with experimental data on turbulence intensity and pressure history. It is also shown that the developed numerical model has the potential of calculating the cyclic variations of flow and combustion. An important understanding on the physical situation in conventional 4-valve engines, is obtained from the present study, which is that laminar regions may exist at the low engine speeds.

In design and planning of manufacturing systems, a wide variety of models representing the manufacturing systems are required for simulation and verification from various viewpoints. These models are concurrently developed and applied to various application fields, therefore, a computerized support system is needed for concurrent development and consistency management of the various manufacturing system models. The objective of the research is to develop an object-oriented model repository aiming at supporting concurrent development and consistency management of the various manufacturing system models for production planning. Contents and structures of manufacturing system models are discussed from the viewpoint of the concurrent and hierarchical production planning problems. Model components and their relations to be stored in the model repository are proposed. A prototype of a model repository is developed and applied to the production planning problems.

Recently, the existence of the robot approaches human's daily life. In such an environment, the robot not only follows the action designed in advance but also should perceive what the situation is, and do an appropriate action. Then, in this paper, it aims to achieve the perceptual system like humans for the partner robot that coexists in the same environment with people, and to acquire an adaptive action in an interaction. So approaching the interaction ability of the robot from the side of feelings and installing the perceptual system that models human's feelings in the robot., it aims at the achievement of the natural, effective interaction that humans is doing.

The local similarity hypothesis was verified in quasi-isotropic turbulent flow fields with turbulence Reynolds numbers of over 3000. The quasi-equilibrium range was known to exist in a turbulence field with turbulence Reynolds numbers of Re_τ >60. The lowest wave number of the quasi-equilibrium range in the energy spectrum was dependent on T_L/T_O : the ratio between the time scale of decay of turbulence energy and the characteristic time scale o an energy-containing eddy. Turbulent eddies with characteristic time scales of less than T_L/4 were statistically stable. The energy dissipation rate was theoretically determined as ε=C_1(q^2/2)^<3/2>/l_O, and the scales of turbulence were estimated from C_1 and Re_λ.

Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) developed a bogie which has independently rotating wheels and is half as light as the conventional one, intended for the improvement of the stability of high-speed running on tangent sections and curving performance, and to render it available as a next-generation bogie on JR narrow lines. The performance of the bogie was tested on roller rigs and in field tests. From measurements, it has been verified that independently rotating wheels using a newly developed wheel profile have a gravitational restoring force and their performance met our expectations. From eigenvalues and results of simulation, the influence of the modeling level and that of the steering mechanism, on the running stability of the independently rotating wheels are clarified.
