A novel object transfer system named “Magic Carpet” composed of linear actuator array and driven by autonomous decentralized type control algorithm is proposed. An object is manipulated by a large number of contact points with many actuators, which differs from conventional systems like belt conveyor. In this paper, the control algorithm for such “distributed manipulation” is proposed.Due to recent development of micromachine technology, distributed manipulation becomes more important. This system has a big advantage in its fault tolerance because it has a lot of actuators with poor performance to move a large heavy object. However, it has a serious wiring problem to be solved and homogeneous structure should be introduced because of a large number actuators.To solve these problems, “combined control of central /autonomous decentralized algorithms” is proposed and evaluated by computer simulation and experiment.

The generation of handwritten character by computers is tried in this study. First, the features of handwritten characters have been analyzed in the frequency region. It has been understood that there are some frequency characteristics, which look like 1/f or white spectra, at the positions of the edge and the center of gravity of the character. Next, the character is approximated with B-spline curve, and the control-point of B-spline curve is fluctuated base on the spectrum analysis. The character generated in this study looks like that generated by handwritten.

To perform finite element analysis (FEA) for estimating the characteristics of synchronous machines (SMs), a current condition corresponding to an operating point is necessary as an analysis input. Accurate identification for the current condition is a difficult problem because it is strongly susceptible to magnetic saturation, e.g., the cross-coupling saturation between d- and q-axes. Especially in a wound-field SM, its flexibility makes the identification more complicated; in other words, three independent variables, such as the amplitude and phase of armature current and amplitude of field current, have to be identified for SMs, whereas two variables are required for a permanent magnet SM or synchronous reluctance machine. Thus, numerous researchers have studied construction of the identification method. This paper proposes a novel identification method for the current condition of wound-field SMs using saturation functions defined by the flux maps. It is demonstrated that the proposed method can correctly identify a large number of current conditions in a short computation time. In addition, the influences of magnetic saturation on the characteristics of the SM were investigated by comparing the identification results obtained by the linear and nonlinear FEA. It is revealed that the magnetic saturation drastically affects the current condition and must be considered in the identification methodology.

When analyzing dynamical stability in power systems, there exist various errors. First, there are analyzing errors which occur in linearlizing non-linear systems on a particular operating condition. Secondly, there are adjusting errors of the parameter values which are the time constants and the gains of the control systems. However, the conventional representative techniques, such as the eigen value method, the Routh-Hurwitz method and the Nyquist method, cannot deal with these kinds of errors. Using these representative methods, if the parameters vary, we have to recalculate the whole system stability. In order to solve this kind of problem, this paper proposes a use of the Kharitonov theorem which is one of the robust control theories.

This paper proposes a high power facter rectifier composed of only passive devices. It consists of a single phase diode rectifier having a L-C resonant circuit in parallel with the diode output and a series reactor to pumping up the charge stored in the resonant circuit capacitor. It enables wide current conduction width and decreases its peak value. As a result, harmonics in the input current is decreased and the power factor is improved, which will be satisfied the harmonic regulation enforced in near future.The absence of switching devices as FETs makes high reliability, high efficiency, strength to over load, and no radio noise. In this paper, it is shown input harmonic current components, output voltage, and other characteristics by charts for circuit design. Input power factor of 98.4%, the total harmonic distortion of 17.4%, and the efficiency of 93.3% are confirmed by experiment with rated condition of 1.0kW, 100V system.

System scaling down in the viewpoint of both electrical blocks and physical interconnection is essential to wireless sensor nodes for layout-free and maintenance-free ubiquitous applications in wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this work, a piezoresistive planar MEMS sensor with the sensitivity of 0.2∼0.3 mV/V/g was developed for the monitoring of vibrations at low-frequency of a few Hz. To reduce power consumption of the system to the lowest limit as well as to reduce the quantity of electrical components, a fully-integrated low-power customized LSI with universal interface to sensors was designed and fabricated by using 0.18 µm 1.8V/3.3V 1P6M logic process for power management, data acquisition, data processing, and data transmission by RF signal. Power supply to the sensor can be managed by the customized LSI for reducing its power consumption. Output analog signal from the sensor can be obtained by the customized LSI through on-chip integrated amplifier and AD convertor. To reduce size of the system to the lowest limit, buried bump interconnection technology (B2it™) was introduced for the integration of above customized LSI, MEMS sensor, crystal oscillator, and passive components into a 3D structure. Those technologies enable the production of the world smallest class wireless sensor nodes with ultra-low power consumption for low-frequency vibration monitoring, and for temperature and humidity measurement.

A suitable single-phase inverter for the utility interactive photovoltaic generation system is proposed. The single-phase PWM current source inverter has a novel circuit configuration which is added a auxiliary branch to the normal single-phase bridge circuit. In order to reduce the size and weight of the dc reactor, a double frequency parallel resonance circut (LC tank circuit) is inserted in the dc side of the inverter. In result, the double frequency voltage appeared in the dc side of the inverter due to the pulsation of the single-phase instantaneous power is perfectly suppressed by the tank circuit. The constant dc current without pulsation is supplied from PV array to the inverter. The inverter provide a sinusoidal ac current for domestic loads and the utility line with unity power factor.The virtual maximum power of the PV array can be obtained without any feedback control. In the system, the PV array can play an important role as a current-limitter by its V-I characteristics. Computed waveformes by simulation are shown. The excellent inverter equipment will be realized with smaller size and lighter weight than a conventional inverter.

This paper presents a control scheme for smooth torque production in permanent-magnet synchronous motor drives. The proposed control scheme consists of two techniques: a feedforward compensation for torque ripple minimization and an online parameter estimation technique for harmonic fluxes. The feedforward compensation is constructed on a position-sensorless vector control system and generates voltage commands to suppress torque ripples. The command calculation process requires the parameters of the harmonic fluxes; therefore, the proposed control scheme includes their estimator and calculates them from detected current information. These techniques are simpler than existing ones and can be implemented on a computational device with a small amount of calculation load. The proposed control scheme is verified by performing simulations and experiments.

The harmonic pollution caused by ac-to-dc converters has been our great concern. To overcome the problem, several Power-Factor-Correction (PFC) converters have been developed and applied in practice in recent years.However, several power converter systems, such as motor drive system with a wide V/F control range, uninterruptible power supply system, and dc power supply system with an universal input voltage range, require an ac-to-dc converter or an off-line converter (pre-regurator) with a wide output-voltage control range to obtain high efficiency. But the most conventional PFC converters employ a Voltage-Fed or Current-Fed type topology and they have lower or upper limitation of the output-voltage control range. Thus, they do not realize sufficiently high system efficiency.On the other hand, a Buck/Boost converter has a wide control range of the output voltage and acts PFC operation under an appropriate control technique. Thus, the study of a possibility about the Buck/Boost ac-to-dc converter with PFC and a wide output-voltage control range is important to realize harmonic-free and efficient power conversion systems.In this paper, the author proposes a three-phase bridge-type ac-to-dc converter system with a high input power factor and a wide output-voltage control range. The controller of the proposed system includes following two new techniques. One is the “Pulse-Space-Modulation” to compensate modulation errors in conventional Pulse-Width-Modulation caused by dc current ripples or fluctuations of the current pulse amplitude. The other is a switching pulse pattern generator, using the idea of equivalent pulse current source for the bridge, to simplify the pulse pattern generation process.In the following, the paper describes the proposed converter system, the control and modulation principles, and experimental results that show the reliability and usefulness of the proposed Buck/Boost converter system. Finally, the paper concludes the contents of this paper.

In recent years, the harmonics and EMI noise sent out from an electric power conversion system are getting a great deal of attention in electromagnetic environment problems. So, the considerations for mentioned above have been getting important. Therefore, there is need to do a detail frequency analysis such as transient phenomena at the switching. So, we have proposed the analytic technique using Wavelet-transform which is possible to catch a phenomenon from the both sides of the time and the frequency. In this paper, we performed the analysis using Wavelet-transform against the actual measured date at the switching interval. Then, based on obtained result, we describe the high validity of Wavelet-transform and the application to the power electronics field.

East Japan Railway Company (JR EAST) has developed advanced transport operation control system supporting super high-density railway in Tokyo metropolitan area. The system target is to revolutionize existing railway operation and to realize new safe and high efficient railway system. Autonomous Decentralized Transport Operation Control System has many features, including safe and steady traffic control, improved customers service and step by step system construction used by autonomous decentralized system technology. The system has been already introduced to Chuo-line in December of 1996 and is now under construction to expand to all of Tokyo metropolitan area.

Nissan has developed a 100% electrified powertrain system called e-POWER, which exhibits key features such as quick response, smooth acceleration, smooth deceleration, and quietness. The quick response and smooth acceleration can be achieved owing to the 100% electric motor drive and control strategy that has been adopted from the Nissan LEAF electric vehicle and improved further. The quietness was designed and controlled using power generation control and engine speed control. A driving mode called the e-POWER drive mode was developed using 100% electric deceleration to achieve smooth and efficient deceleration with linearity and controllability.

Solar electric vehicles (EVs) can travel a long distance by generating electricity from panels mounted on them. The solar EV can generate a sufficient amount of electricity in fine weather. However, the amount of power generation decreases in cloudy weather. Therefore, to improve the cruising range of solar EVs, it is important to optimize a driving plan and to design a vehicle with good mechanical performance. By defining a evaluation function as time integration of the vehicle's energy balance, this study proposes an optimization theory that takes the variation of weather into account. Then, it proposes two types of solutions: the iterative calculation method and the sequential calculation method. The effectiveness of the theory is verified by simulating actual driving.
