High-frequency train operation with a moving-block signaling system has begun to be introduced mainly in urban rail transit. Under high-frequency operation, however, subsequent trains can repeatedly be forced to slow down according to deceleration pattern generated by the signaling system to avoid collision with preceding trains, which increases the energy consumption of subsequent trains. In this paper, train trajectory optimization with dynamic programming is applied to evaluate the effect of considering preceding trains' trajectory on subsequent trains' energy reduction in a line with moving-block signaling system. The result shows that the method reduces the increase in energy consumption compared to the preceding train 1/3 times more than when not considering the position of the preceding train.

Takasaki-Nagano section, a part of Hokuriku Shinkansen was opened in October, 1997, just before Nagano Winter Olympics. Hokuriku Shinkansen has been electrified by 30kV a. c. commercial frequency AT feeding system.As for the commercial frequency, Japan is divided into two zones: the western part of Japan is a 60Hz zone and its eastern part is a 50Hz zone. Two different power frequencies exist in Hokuriku Shinkansen which passes power frequency borders between different electric power companies. Therefore, in case of a contact fault between two different power frequencies, a beat-formed large fault current will flow, which should be immediately detected and cut off.At present, a distance relay and an AC ΔI type relay are used as protective relays for a feeding circuit of Shinkansen lines. However, it was experimentally made clear that those relays do not operate by a beat-formed fault current which appears in the case of a contact fault between two different power frequencies. For this reason, we have developed and put to practical use a protective relay for a contact fault between two different frequencies, which operates by detecting 55Hz component peculiar to the current caused by the contact fault and also detecting power frequency of an opponent traction substation.They have been installed at a frequency-bordered sectioning post and at traction substations which sandwich the sectioning post.

We investigated the electrostatic charging phenomena of polymer films used for the thermal control materials of spacecrafts by electron-beam irradiation simulating the hot plasma in space. Three kinds of polymer films, Teflon FEP (flurinated ethylene-propylene), Kapton PI (poly imide) and Mylar PET (poly ethylene telephthalate) of the thickness of 13-75μm, were tested under the irradiation conditions of the electron energy E lower than 50keV and the beam current density Jb lower than 1nA/cm2. The surface potentials Vs of the films were obtained as functions of E and Jb at the constant irradiation time.The obtained experimental results are as follows.(1) Vs increases with increase of Jb. When Vs∞Jbn is assumed, the n value is different during the films: n=1 for FEP film, n_??_0.5 for PI film and 0.5_??_n_??_0.8 for PET film.(2) In Vs-E characteristics, Vs has the peak at some electron energy which is dependent on the material and the thickness.These results were explained by an one-dimensional charging model in which one charge deposition layer is assumed to be formed in the bulk of the film and the volume resistivity and the secondary electron emission coefficient of the material are considered.

A novel object transfer system named "Magic Carpet" composed of linear actuator array and driven by autonomous decentralized type control algorithm is proposed. An object is manipulated by a large number of contact points with many actuators, which differs from conventional systems like belt conveyor. In this paper, the control algorithm for such "distributed manipulation" is proposed.<br>Due to recent development of micromachine technology, distributed manipulation becomes more important. This system has a big advantage in its fault tolerance because it has a lot of actuators with poor performance to move a large heavy object. However, it has a serious wiring problem to be solved and homogeneous structure should be introduced because of a large number actuators.<br>To solve these problems, "combined control of central /autonomous decentralized algorithms" is proposed and evaluated by computer simulation and experiment.

Electric vehicles are equipped with an isolated DC-DC converter for controlling the bidirectional DC power flow. In this case, a current sensor was installed inside the circuit. This paper proposes a current sensor using current transformers for bidirectional DC-DC converters. The current sensor comprises a current transformer (CT), diode rectifier, and MOSFET. The current sensor can detect a pulse current containing a DC component without any magnetic saturation. This paper shows a circuit configuration of the bidirectional current sensor, and the principle of the bidirectional current detection of the sensor is analyzed. The validity of this analysis is verified through an experiment with the DC-DC converter rated at 150V and 1.4kW.

In the single-phase AC railroad electrification, the voltage unbalance of three-phase electric power system has to be reduced. For this purpose, three-phase power is converted to two-phase power by the Scott-connected transformer, and the electric power is received from a powerful or high-tension source.Recently, regenerative braking has come to be applied to electric rolling-stocks, but occasionally the regenerative brake increases the voltage unbalance in the three-phase electric power source with the ordinary two-phase feeding system. So, in some cases unbalance power compensation may be found more profitable than the Scott-connected transformer.This paper describes a theoretical study and results of a test on a mini-model which uses a scalene Scott-connected transformer, switched reactors and capacitors for the purpose of reducing the voltage unbalance in the three-phase electric power source. By this method, main phase (M) and teaser transformer (T) voltages of scalene Scott-connected transformer secondary side are decided by a single load power factor, and the sum of the capacities of the reactors and the capacitors is equal to the apparent power of single-phase load.For example in SCR switched control of the reactors/capacitors which has four steps in power running and two steps in regenerative braking, the voltage unbalance in the three-phase electric power source can be reduced satisfactorily.

Force between an electromagnet and an iron piece is usually calculated with a equation of Maxwell's stress, and for the exact result, the integration of stress is made along a route away from the iron. It, however, is necessary to calculate magnetic flux density components paralell to the integration route as well as perpendicular ones.The authors propose a new method of calculation using FEM. This method presents that the integration of Maxwell's stress is made on the surface of an iron piece, and magnetic flux is regarded perpendicular to the iron surface. Calculated values of magnetic force, attractive force and restoring force under small parallel displacement to pole face, have been compared with measured ones on an experimental model. The following results are obtained. (1) The magnetic force is calculated using the results of FEM analyses where the number of nodes has been less than 1000. The differences between the calculated and the measured values are smaller than 5%. (2) To obtain the above results, it is necessary that relative permeability of the iron piece is larger than 100 and the side length of each triangle element near the iron corner is less than 2% of the gap length.

This paper considers the robust stabilization of uncertain multimodeling systems. The guaranteed cost control technique is used to choose the design parameter which is included in the control gain. The ε-independent quadratically stabilizing controller is newly proposed. It is shown that if the reduced order algebraic Riccati equations (AREs) have positive definite stabilizing solution then the closed-loop uncertain multimodeling systems with the proposed controller are quadraticaly stable and have the cost bound. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, numerical example is included.

It has been pointed out that a very strong electromagnetic field is induced occasionally along aerial power lines located near a medium wave (MW) broadcasting station, and the construction and the maintenance of power lines are sometimes endangered. We have presented a method to predict a dangerous span before the construction and the maintenance, and a use of a loading of appropriate inductor to decrease the induced field the case where the resonant loop is composed of three power lines, i.e., a top conductor, a middle conductor and a bottom conductor and part of towers. In this paper, the effect of loading inductor for the case that the resonant loop includes a ground wire is presented. Since the ground wire is connected directly to the tower, the inductor can not be loaded into the ground wire. It is shown that the field strength in the vicinity of three power lines can be suppressed by loading the inductor to three power cables each. However, the field in the vicinity of the ground wire can not be suppressed significantly. Measured values of the field strength in the vicinity of the bottom conductor is presented to confirm the suppression effect.

Recently, in the machinery field, the outoput of actuators becomes greater by the demands for high speed response and high accuracy positioning control. On the other hand, the demands for cost and lighter weight make the machine stand slimer. As a result, the machine stand vibrates at each opertation of actuators and this vibration possibly affects a positioning control. That is, the settling time of the positioning control is prolonged. In order to remove this influence, this paper shows the method of a feedforward controller design for a system including not only a machine but also a machine stand. Moreover, the model for this system is proposed and identified by the genetic algorithm in order to make the feedfoward controller design possible. Effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by the experiments.

Recently in the conurbation area, traffic congestion on railway system is very terrific and the commutation area have been spread out year after year. So it is required to reduce traffic congestion and to shorten time to arrive at the destinations. Recent development of information system in a railway system makes it possible to know more accurate passengers demand in real time. In this paper, we propose a method to make more flexible train schedule based on passengers demand. The proposed method can make a train schedule to satisfy the most amount of demand and make the total trip time of passengers smallest. By setting number of trains and their start times, stop patterns of trains are automatically generated and evaluated by train traffic simulations and passengers flow simulations. These simulations are executed repeatedly to evaluate trial schedules in the planning process and so efficient simulation methods are also proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined through some examples of applications based on practical railway models.

We have constructed a prototype of partial discharge (PD) pulse measurement and degradation diagnosis expert system (PDM/ES-I) using a personal computer for insulation degradation diagnosis of materials suffering from PDs. For 0.1 mm-thick low density polyethylene (LDPE) with CIGRE Method II electrode system, temporal change of phase-angle-resolved PD pulse occurrence distribution was measured with PDM/ES- I. We applied the so-called "pattern recognition" of the PD pulse distribution to diagnosis of insulation degradation and assessment of residual life. Experimental results revealed that in spite of large scattering of time to breakdown, i. e. life, from 5 to 43 hours, all the tested samples exhibited similar evolution of the profile of PD pulse occurrence distribution with increasing aging time. The PD pattern measured at a given aging time was compared with five standard normalized PD patterns which had been registered in advance as five representative degradation stages from initial degradation category to final one. The degradation stage determined by the pattern recognition (PR) method proved to vary from the initial degradation category to final one in a correct turn. Consequently, the PR method permitted an exact determination of the degree of degradation at a given aging time. In other words, the PR method was capable of predicting the residual life of LDPE with a CM-II electrode system.

This article deals with trend of sensing, monitoring, diagnostics and maintenance technology in electric power apparatus, especially, gas insulated switchgear (GIS). Partial discharge measurement is one of key technology and the most promising method for developing highly reliable diagnostics for insulation performance of the high voltage apparatus. The review is made by focusing UHF sensors and acoustic method for detecting electromagnetic and ultrasonic waves caused by partial discharges in GIS, respectively.
