音楽聴取時に音源に対応した振動を聴取者の身体に付与した場合,音楽の印象がどのように変化するのか実験的に検討した.その結果,付与する振動の種類や振動の強さ,振動を付与する身体の箇所を選ぶことにより音楽の印象を強調できる見通しが得られた.

Weighted Round-Robin (WRR) is often used, due to its simplicity, for scheduling packets or tasks. With WRR, a number of packets equal to the weight allocated to a flow can be served consecutively, which leads to a bursty service. Interleaved Weighted Round-Robin (IWRR) is a variant that mitigates this effect. We are interested in finding bounds on worst-case delay obtained with IWRR. To this end, we use a network calculus approach and find a strict service curve for IWRR. The result is obtained using the pseudo-inverse of a function. We show that the strict service curve is the best obtainable one, and that delay bounds derived from it are tight (i.e., worst-case) for flows of packets of constant size. Furthermore, the IWRR strict service curve dominates the strict service curve for WRR that was previously published. We provide some numerical examples to illustrate the reduction in worst-case delays caused by IWRR compared to WRR.

In a heterogeneous unreliable multiaccess network, wherein terminals share a common wireless channel with distinct error probabilities, existing works have shown that a persistent round-robin (RR-P) scheduling policy can be arbitrarily worse than the optimum in terms of Age of Information (AoI) under standard Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ). In this paper, practical Hybrid ARQ (HARQ) schemes which are widely-used in today's wireless networks are considered. We show that RR-P is very close to optimum with asymptotically many terminals in this case, by explicitly deriving tight, closed-form AoI gaps between optimum and achievable AoI by RR-P. In particular, it is rigorously proved that for RR-P, under HARQ models concerning fading channels (resp. finite-blocklength regime), the relative AoI gap compared with the optimum is within a constant of 6.4% (resp. 6.2% with error exponential decay rate of 0.5). In addition, RR-P enjoys the distinctive advantage of implementation simplicity with channel-unaware and easy-to-decentralize operations, making it favorable in practice. A further investigation considering constraint imposed on the number of retransmissions is presented. The performance gap is indicated through numerical simulations.

Bitcoin is one of popular cryptocurrencies widely used over the world, and its blockchain technology has attracted considerable attention. In Bitcoin system, it has been reported that transactions are prioritized according to transaction fees, and that transactions with high priorities are likely to be confirmed faster than those with low priorities. In this paper, we consider performance modeling of Bitcoin-blockchain system in order to characterize the transaction-confirmation time. We first introduce the Bitcoin system, focusing on proof-of-work, the consensus mechanism of Bitcoin blockchain. Then, we show some queueing models and its analytical results, discussing the implications and insights obtained from the queueing models.

In modern optical communications, pulse amplitude modulation 4 (PAM4) is employed to achieve higher data rates than that achieved by conventional non-return-to-zero format. Meanwhile, there is an increasing interest to convert wired connections to wireless in data centers using high-speed millimeter-wave and terahertz (THz) links. Here, we introduced the PAM4 modulation for THz wireless communications using a resonant tunneling diode (RTD) receiver. Compared with a Schottky-barrier diode receiver, the RTD receiver has higher sensitivity, and a stronger nonlinearity at low input power when it is operated with an amplified detection scheme. We achieved 24-Gbaud (48-Gbit/s) transmission in the 300-GHz band with a quasi-real-time digital signal processing (DSP), which is the fastest PAM4 wireless communication without an offline DSP to the best of our knowledge.

Because motion capture system enabled us to capture a number of human motions, the demand for a method to easily browse the captured motion database has been increasing. In this paper, we propose a method to generate simple visual outlines of motion clips, for the purpose of efficient motion data browsing. Our method unfolds a motion clip into a 2D stripe of keyframes along a timeline that is based on semantic keyframe extraction and the best view point selection for each keyframes. With our visualization, timing and order of actions in the motions are clearly visible and the contents of multiple motions are easily comparable. In addition, because our method is applicable for a wide variety of motions, it can generate outlines for a large amount of motions fully automatically.

Single-instruction multiple-data (SIMD) extension provides an energy-efficient platform to scale the performance of media and scientific applications while still retaining post-programmability. However, the major challenge is to translate the parallel resources of the SIMD hardware into real application performance. Currently, all the slots in the vector register are used when compilers exploit SIMD parallelism of programs, which can be called sufficient vectorization. Sufficient vectorization means all the data in the vector register is valid. Because all the slots which vector register provides must be used, the chances of vectorizing programs with low SIMD parallelism are abandoned by sufficient vectorization method. In addition, the speedup obtained by full use of vector register sometimes is not as great as that obtained by partial use. Specifically, the length of vector register provided by SIMD extension becomes longer, sufficient vectorization method cannot exploit the SIMD parallelism of programs completely. Therefore, insufficient vectorization method is proposed, which refer to partial use of vector register. First, the adaptation scene of insufficient vectorization is analyzed. Second, the methods of computing inter-iteration and intra-iteration SIMD parallelism for loops are put forward. Furthermore, according to the relationship between the parallelism and vector factor a method is established to make the choice of vectorization method, in order to vectorize programs as well as possible. Finally, code generation strategy for insufficient vectorization is presented. Benchmark test results show that insufficient vectorization method vectorized more programs than sufficient vectorization method by 107.5% and the performance achieved by insufficient vectorization method is 12.1% higher than that achieved by sufficient vectorization method.

Four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4) data formats are adopted to achieve next-generation high-speed data transmission standards. In this letter, a novel eye-opening monitoring technique based on machine learning is proposed to evaluate the received signal quality for the adaptive coefficients setting of a transmitter feed-forward equalizer for PAM-4 signaling. The monitoring technique employs a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) to classify the received PAM-4 symbols. Simulation and measured results of the coefficient adjustment using the GMM method are presented.

A novel digital control algorithm for a single-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) converter with fast dynamic response is presented. Based on the converter circuit structure, the track of the output voltage and the inductor current of next switching cycle is estimated in advance. The self-adjusting voltage control loop is adopted to improve the static and dynamic voltage regulation. Meanwhile, the current control loop is implemented only by the estimated output voltage and inductor current values, which simplifies the control loop and reduces the digital calculation burden. The single-phase boost PFC converter with the proposed digital control algorithm has been implemented via the field programmable gate array (FPGA). Experimental results indicate that the proposed control algorithm can improve the power factor, as well as the dynamic response of boost PFC converter simultaneously. The power factor is optimized more than 0.98, and the recovery time is less than 4 line cycles with small overshoot.

本論文では,超球面上で一般化したシンボル設計手法を提案し,数値計算実験によりその性能を評価する.提案設計では高次元ほど最小シンボル間距離を長くすることができ,8次元では通常のQPSKと比較してBER=10-7で約0.8 dBの利得を達成することが可能であることを示す.

An antenna array system with high angular resolution is proposed to adapt the demands of both medium-range radar (MRR) and long-range radar (LRR) detections for 77 GHz automotive radars. Both the MRR and LRR modes are integrated into one substrate based on the optimized sparse array topology, which makes full use of the antenna aperture size to improve the angular resolution of the proposed system. Two-dimensional series-fed weighting arrays are designed via the Taylor synthesis method to effectively heighten the antenna gain and restrain the sidelobe level. After completing the fabrication, measurement results of the proposed antenna array are in good agreement with the simulation results. Moreover, the angular resolution is verified to be 0.5° by adopting the coherent signal space method (CSM) with stepped frequency transmitting waveform, which validates the effectiveness of the proposal.

With the spread of the broadband Internet and high-performance devices, various services have become available anytime, anywhere. As a result, attention is focused on the service quality and Quality of Experience (QoE) is emphasized as an evaluation index from the user's viewpoint. Since QoE is a subjective evaluation metric and deeply involved with user perception and expectation, quantitative and comparative research was difficult because the QoE study is still in its infancy. At present, after tremendous devoted efforts have contributed to this research area, a shape of the QoE management architecture has become clear. Moreover, not only for research but also for business, video streaming services are expected as a promising Internet service incorporating QoE. This paper reviews the present state of QoE studies with the above background and describes the future prospect of QoE. Firstly, the historical aspects of QoE is reviewed starting with QoS (Quality of Service). Secondly, a QoE management architecture is proposed in this paper, which consists of QoE measurement, QoE assessment, QoS-QoE mapping, QoE modeling, and QoE adaptation. Thirdly, QoE studies related with video streaming services are introduced, and finally individual QoE and physiology-based QoE measurement methodologies are explained as future prospect in the field of QoE studies.

Application-aware Traffic Engineering (TE) plays a crucial role in ensuring quality of services (QoS) for recently emerging applications such as AR, VR, cloud gaming, and connected vehicles. While a deterministic application-aware TE is required for these mission-critical applications, a negotiation procedure between applications and network operators needs to undergo major simplification to fulfill the scalability of the application based on emerging microservices and container-based architecture. In this paper, we propose a NetworkAPI framework which allows an application to indicate a desired TE behavior inside IP packets by leveraging Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6). In the NetworkAPI framework, the TE behavior provided by the network operator is expressed as an SRv6 Segment Identifier (SID) in the form of a 128-bit IPv6 address. Because the IPv6 address of an SRv6 SID is distributed using IP anycast, the application can utilize the unchanged SRv6 SID regardless of the application's location, as if the application controls an API on the transport network. We implement a prototype of the NetworkAPI framework on a Linux kernel. On the prototype implementation, a basic packet forwarding performance is evaluated to demonstrate the feasibility of our framework.

This paper proposes a switched pinning control method with a multi-rating mechanism for vehicle platoons. The platoons are expressed as multi-agent systems consisting of mass-damper systems in which pinning agents receive target velocities from external devices (ex. intelligent traffic signals). We construct model predictive control (MPC) algorithm that switches pinning agents via mixed-integer quadratic programmings (MIQP) problems. The optimization rate is determined according to the convergence rate to the target velocities and the inter-vehicular distances. This multi-rating mechanism can reduce the computational load caused by iterative calculation. Numerical results demonstrate that our method has a reduction effect on the string instability by selecting the pinning agents to minimize errors of the inter-vehicular distances to the target distances.

We propose deep neural network (DNN)-based speech enhancement that reduces musical noise and achieves better auditory impressions. The musical noise is an artifact generated by nonlinear signal processing and negatively affects the auditory impressions. We aim to develop musical-noise-free speech enhancement methods that suppress the musical noise generation and produce perceptually-comfortable enhanced speech. DNN-based speech enhancement using a soft mask achieves high noise reduction but generates musical noise in non-speech regions. Therefore, first, we define kurtosis matching for DNN-based low-musical-noise speech enhancement. Kurtosis is the fourth-order moment and is known to correlate with the amount of musical noise. The kurtosis matching is a penalty term of the DNN training and works to reduce the amount of musical noise. We further extend this scheme to standardized-moment matching. The extended scheme involves using moments whose orders are higher than kurtosis and generalizes the conventional musical-noise-free method based on kurtosis matching. We formulate standardized-moment matching and explore how effectively the higher-order moments reduce the amount of musical noise. Experimental evaluation results 1) demonstrate that kurtosis matching can reduce musical noise without negatively affecting noise suppression and 2) newly reveal that the sixth-moment matching also achieves low-musical-noise speech enhancement as well as kurtosis matching.

The multi-category support vector machine (MC-SVM) is one of the most popular machine learning algorithms. There are numerous MC-SVM variants, although different optimization algorithms were developed for diverse learning machines. In this study, we developed a new optimization algorithm that can be applied to several MC-SVM variants. The algorithm is based on the Frank-Wolfe framework that requires two subproblems, direction-finding and line search, in each iteration. The contribution of this study is the discovery that both subproblems have a closed form solution if the Frank-Wolfe framework is applied to the dual problem. Additionally, the closed form solutions on both the direction-finding and line search exist even for the Moreau envelopes of the loss functions. We used several large datasets to demonstrate that the proposed optimization algorithm rapidly converges and thereby improves the pattern recognition performance.

組合せ最適化は社会や産業の様々な場面で頻繁に現れる重要課題である.組合せ最適化問題に特化した量子コンピュータである量子アニーラが商用化されて以来,量子コンピュータに限らず,組合せ最適化問題に特化した計算機ハードウェアの研究開発が活発化している.本論文では,著者らが考案した量子インスパイアドの組合せ最適化アルゴリズムであるシミュレーテッド分岐アルゴリズムと,それを並列計算機で高速実装した組合せ最適化マシンについて解説し,シミュレーテッド分岐アルゴリズムを用いた大規模組合せ最適化の将来を展望する.
