Hitachi, Matsusita and SONY have proposed the consumer-use VTR format for the 1125line/60Hz Japanese Hi-Vison system, and announced the specifications of this VTR. In these specifications, we adopted a base-band recording method which dose not require any band compression. In making this adoption we took into consideration two typical uses, recording of broadcasted signals and playback of software tapes. And the width (1/2inch) and the thickness(13um) of the tape enable 3 hours recording with almost the same size cassette as is being by consumers at present.

NTSCビデオ信号と音声信号4chを、圧縮せずに32分間のデジタル記録再生可能な光ディスクレコーダを開発した。直径30cm、トラックピッチ1.2μmの両面光磁気ディスク、波長680nm光ヘッドおよび(1,7)RLL符号を用いたPRML再生方式などにより、最短記録波長0.34μm/bit、記録ビットレート123Mbpsを達成した。さらに、ディスクの全局にわたり最短記録波長を一定にするCWL-CAV(Constant minmum Wave Length-Constant Angular Velocity)方式により、記録容量を23GBまで大容量化した。

W-VHS VCR has been developed as a next generation consumer VCR in response to Hi-Vision and NTSC signals. This VCR has a high picture quality using new video signal processing technologies by new Metal-coated tapes, TCI signal processing and Temporal Emphasis. It has an excellent cost/performance ratio as a Hi-Vision VCR developed on the basis of the VHS system.

Four VHF television transmitting stations had ever been located seperately in Fukuoka city. These stations concentrated into new Fukuoka Tower and started to transmit their television programs all at once on June 14th in 1993. In this report we describe a background of this large-scale removal of television transmitting function, an outline of NHK's transmitting facilities and its construction. We also give a account of technical problem that we had studied to achieve all our aims.

ある人物の顔を見て性別を判定する際には, 顔のもつ様々な情報の中で, どの情報が有効に利用されているのであろうか.男女各16名のモデルを使った本研究の実験では, 顔の持つ色情報が, 性別を判断される際に男女を問わず必要であることが分かった.また, 性別を判断する際の視点依存性について, 男性の場合は左90°の横顔, 女性の顔は右90°の横顔が性別を誤って判断されやすく, その判断に対する被験者の確信度も低いことが明らかとなった.つまり, 性別判断の視点依存性には男女の顔で非対称性があることが示唆された.

JSB & TOSHIBA realized total digital system by optical serial video inferface. A-STUDIO video syetem provides optical serial interface, and the video switcher is the newest one that is small size and small power dissipation. We adopted multi CPU system and LAN system for the control system. DPE (digital picture effect) of this system provides a lot of unique effect, for example 3D effect, post frame effect, etc.

The Peano scan is a path traversing an array of points and is very convoluted as a randam walk. This scan can be applied to sequential image transformation, instead of raster scan, and does not produce periodic patterns that are often observed in the case of raster scan. Also it is noted that the Peano scan has the same properties as that of quadtree or octree. If the distribution of values in a 2D or 3D array has clusters, then the clusters are preserved on the scan. This is the reason why this scan is applied to run-length compression and color quantization. The Peano scan, however, has restrictions in nature: the scanned array must be a square and the width and height must be a power of 2, because the scan is obtained by recursive division of the array, as quadtree. In the present article, some generalized Peano scans for any rectangular array are introduced, and halftoning is discussed as one of the applications of the Peano scans.

GUI環境およびインターネットの普及は, WWWという新しい情報源をもたらした.WWWが扱う情報には画像データと共に視覚障害者にとって有効と思われる文字情報も多く含まれている.このWWWへの非視覚的アクセスが実現すれば, 視覚障害者にこれまでとは異なる新しい情報源を提供できると期待される.日本アイ・ビー・エム(株)では, 本年8月, 視覚障害者がGUI環境下にアクセスするためのコンピュータ・アクセス・システムであるスクリーン・リーダー/2を製品化した.このシステムを使用すれば, 視覚障害者もNetscape, WebExplorerのようなWWWプラウザーにアクセス可能となる.本稿では, 視覚障害者がスクリーン・リーダー/2およびNetscapeを使ってWebを利用するための手順を紹介し, 今後WWWを視覚障害者の新しい情報源にする為にはどのような課題があるかについて述べる.

We have developed a VR skiing system to train skiing amusingly and effectively. The system consists of a skiing training machine, 90 inch screen, a projector and 3 PCs. A skier rides on the skiing training machine which is fitted with 9 weigh/angle sensors, and enjoys skiing on a "virtual slope". Using measured data by these sensors, developed system simulates the skier's motion on the virtual slope. The simulation is based on dynamics model of real skiing. Acoording to the simulated skier's motion, CG images and sounds of the virtual slope are generated. Therefore he can experience realistic skiing. In addition, some skiers can ski on same virtual slope at the same time and enjoy a dual slalom, because the systems can connected to each other through network.

話者認識は、発声者が誰であるかを自動的に判定する技術である。本論文では、話者認識の基本的な説明をするとともに、テキスト指定型話者照合方法について解説する。テキスト指定型話者照合方法は近年注目を集めている方法で、装置を用いるたびに装置側から新しい言葉を指定することによって、テープレコーダなどによる悪用を防ぐことができる。更に近年、高品質マイク、静かな環境で録音したデータに関しては、多くの研究機関が99%以上の高い話者認識率を報告するようになったが、背景雑音、回線歪み、事前閾値などに関する課題が残されていることを紹介する。最後に、話者認識研究の展望について述べる。

対人コミュニケーションの過程はメディア、個人属性、対人関係、状況など多くの要因からなる。社会的行動の中心的な要因であり、多くの機能を担っている。それは、情報伝達、相互作用調整、親密さの表出、社会的統制の行使、サービス・作業目標の促進などである。これまでのように、チャネルの用いられ方だけでなくその機能を把握していく必要がある。コミュニケーションは対人的な親密さを反映する。その親密さは発言や視線の直接性を高め、しかもそれは、親密さを意味すると解読される。しかし、親密さが結合段階に達すると、さらには増大せず、減退することにも見られるように、コミュニケーションの機能は関係の段階に応じて変化するものでもある。

Digital modulation methods such as QPSK and QAM have been studied for efficient transmission of digital signal such as MPEG through analog lines. Among such modulations, 64QAM has been getting attention for building CATV system because of its effective transmission capability. In order to implement 64QAM transmission system for consumer tuner, biggest obstacle could be phase noise. In this paper, we assume phase noise spectrum of tuner and studied the influence of these spectra to BER of 64QAM system both theoretically and experiment. In conclusion, we obtain a method to astimate the BER based on the phase noise spectra condition.

'1995 World Gymnastic Championships in Sabae', which was held for the first time in Asia, opened at Sun Dome Fukui on October 1st with the participation of around 900 athletes from 56 nations and regions. NHK produced International Signals as a host broadcaster. This report deseribes the outline and 'Multimotion' which was newly developed and effectively used for the production.

人間の色彩知覚の研究は, 心理学・生理学などの分野で行なわれて来たが, 工学的なモデルによる定量的な研究は難しいとされている。また, 色の知覚は, それが多分に主観に依存する以上, 常に錯視であるとさえ言えよう。本研究では, Color simultaneous contrast illusionおよびColor appearance illusion等を題材に, 相互抑制型ニューラル=ネットワークという単純なモデルを用いて色の錯視を工学的に実現することを試みた。さらに、色空間における曲率を求めることにより, 色空間の幾何学を定量的に考察する。
