Considering interconnection of a large-capacity of wind power generation to the utility grid, it is of great concern that its output power fluctuation has adverse influences, e.g. frequency fluctuation. There have so far been some research works on installation of battery energy storage systems (BESS), as a solution of these problems. However, owing to very high cost of the BESS, its capacity should be as small as possible. In this paper, not only the installation of the BESS as one of measures of suppressing the frequency fluctuation caused by wind power generation, but also blade pitch angle control for blunting the output power of wind turbine generators (WTGs) is also considered. This paper proposes a coordinated control method of the BESS and the blade pitch angle, and evaluates reduction of the capacity of the BESS and the power generation loss caused by blunting the output power which should be originally generated by WTGs.

It is expected to promote the introduction of renewable energy (RE), such as photovoltaic (PV) and wind power (WP), from the view points of carbon dioxide reduction and diversification of energy sources. However, as the introduction of RE into the conventional power grid, output curtailment of RE will increase due to supply and demand balance constraints. In this study, we have developed a model and data which enable long-term power supply and demand analysis based on some scenarios. Using this model and data, we analyzed the transition of the amount of RE generation and the amount of RE curtailment per installed capacity. As a result, the change in the facility utilization rate of PV and WP is clarified quantitatively based on the influence of RE curtailment. The amount of PV curtailment was significantly increased in Kyushu and Tohoku area, where RE is particularly widespread. The results of this paper can be used to evaluate how and when it is necessary to take measures such as the introduction of storage batteries.

Receiving tactile information from a slave-robot is a necessary component of telexistence with haptic display, but there are few tactile sensors that can measure the distribution of three-dimensional force vectors on a surface. For this reason, we developed a sensor that provides three-dimensional force distribution by detecting movement vectors in the transparent elastic body with a video camera. From a result of the experiment, it turned out this approach is effective.

Recently, from the viewpoint of vibration and noise reductions, torque ripple reduction of motor-equipped electrical machines is the need of the hour. The authors have already proposed to improve torque characteristics of a synchronous reluctance motor using the topology optimization method. The evaluated rotor structure succeeded in substantial torque ripple reduction, but the cause for this reduction was unknown. In this paper, we investigate the reason for torque ripple reduction using the improved rotor structure of the motor by a topology optimization method known as R-SLP, by comparing it to the reference model using finite element analysis. A calculation method is proposed to analyze the circumferential magnetic force density of spatial and time harmonic orders using the magnetic density in the air gap. By focusing on the time order at which the torque waveform was evaluated, we estimate which circumferential magnetic force density orders affect torque ripple reduction. Then, we clarify the reason for torque ripple reduction to examine the influence of local shape of rotor structure using 12th time-harmonic magnetic fields. As a result, the modified flux barrier rotor structure is obtained, which further reduces the torque ripple in comparison to the previous structure.

In model-free controller syntheses, we have no idea whether the designed controller stabilizes the resulting closed-loop system before its implementation. From the view point of safety of the experimental equipment, we should develop the stability test for model-free controller synthesis using the acquired input/output data. Karimi et al. introduced the sufficient stability condition for the closed-loop system and proposed the stability test for NCbT (Noniterative Correlation-based Tuning) for SISO systems. However, since the positions of the plant and the controller have to be swapped in NCbT, its applicability is restricted to SISO systems.<br>This paper proposes to extend the stability test for NCbT to MIMO systems. The basic idea is to use the special reference <i><b>r</b></i><sup>[<i>i</i>]</sup>(<i>t</i>) and to acquire input/output data as many times as the number of plant inputs. The small-gain theorem introduces the sufficient stability condition for the closed-loop system in terms of the <i>H</i><sub>&infin;</sub> norm of the specific transfer function matrix, which is estimated from the acquired input/output data by the spectral analysis method.<br> The effectiveness of the proposed stability test is confirmed by the numerical experiment for LV100 gas turbine engine model and the experiment for tension-and-speed control apparatus.
