In this paper the theoretical equation of motion of tire wheel is obtained, by the consideration of tire deformation and the slip against road, as a method to connect the Kantrowitz's shimmy equation and the usual theory which neglects the tire deformation. This equation leads to the steering characteristics of pneumatic tire. By this aequation the yawing shimmy and the coupled oscillations fo rolling, yawing, tramping etc. are analysed.

The pinning effect of a high-temperature superconductor(HTS) realize noncontact levitation without additional devices. An HTS magnet can be easily produced by field cooling. When an HTS experiencing magnetic field is cooled by liquid nitrogen, the flux-pinning effect keeps magnetic flux trapped inside its body. It is field cooling. We developed an HTS rotary actuator system. This paper describes the design of the actuator system and a rotation speed controller. The controller is the same of the brushless DC servo motor. The experimental results showed that the rotation speed is satisfactorily controlled by the PI control law.

This paper presents a new method for solving the Reynolds equation with a matrix form, in which the Reynolds equation is reduced analytically without approximation to infinite dimensional linear equations with unknowns related to eigen values of operator R=▽・[(h^3/6η)▽]. The paper also presents applications of the method to journal bearing problems under two boundary conditions : one is the half Sommerfeld condition and the other is the quasi Reynolds condition which assures 'continuity of the bulk flow' across the boundary. It will be shown that the present method requires much less computational time than FDM for obtaining accurate predictions.

本研究では, モータの代わりに人工筋肉の特性を持つワイヤーを脚の駆動用アクチュエータに利用した小型六足歩行ロボットを作製した。このロボットは, 小型でありモータを用いていないことから軽量である。そこでロボットの脚と接地面との摩擦抵抗を大きくし, ロボットの前進, 後退及び旋回を滑らかに行う歩行パターンの開発を行った。

Stresses and stiffnesses of band adhesive box section beams subjected to torsional loads have been studied analytically. The influences of pitches and width and thickness of the adhesives on the stress distributions and the torsional rigidities were investigated analytically and numerically. Maximum shear stress in the adhcsives occurs at an intersection of the adhered boundary and the inner edge of flange, and it decreases with increase in the width and thickness of the adhesives. The analytical results were consistent with the results of finite element methods.

In this report the sub-harmonic resonance of the dissipative system with the restoring force represented by a cubic curve is treated. The authors tried to solve this problems by Fourier series and investigate the stability of the solutions, and then acquired the graphical solution which is useful for actual practice We made an experiment to see the validity of the calculation, that is, we could find how the magnitudes of damping force and external force affect occurrence of sub-harmonic resonance in the non-linear system.

In this paper, a new head injury criterion evaluated by the hydrostatic stress occurred in the head crash phenomenon. In order to obtain the threshold value for brain's organ and tissue, <I>in vitro</I> impact experiments to cultured nerve cells were performed. PC-12 cultured nerve cell was employed to imitate the human's nerve cell. In the experiments, various pressure waves were generated by introducing different heights of dropping weight for impacting. Relationships between peak values of impact compressive and expansive pressure waves and detachment rates and injury rates evaluated by the cell membranes damage were obtained.

The effects of blockage ratios (BR) of the Shchelkin spiral on characteristics of deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) in a vortex flow were examined in order to control the DDT distance without losing the simplicity inherent pulse detonation engines. The DDT distance decreases with increasing the BR of the Shchelkin spiral. However, the optimum value of BR exists. The DDT distance is deteriorated if the BR exceeds the optimum value. Optimizing the BR of the Shchelkin spiral is another way to shorten DDT distance in a vortex flow.

The effects of lengths and blockage ratios (BR) of Shchelkin spiral on characteristics of deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) in a vortex flow were examined in order to control the DDT distance without losing the simplicity inherent pulse detonation engines (PDEs). A vortex flow field was established in the ignition and transition domains of the detonation tube using a vortex flow type injection. The DDT process was observed by measuring the pressure and ionization current in the detonation tube. The DDT distance decreases with increasing the length of Shchelkin spiral. However, the optimum length of Shchelkin spiral exists. The DDT distance is reduced by about 12.0% when the BR is increased from 38.2% to 45.1%.

Cells are exposed to several kinds of stimulation and some types of mechanical stimulations are known to affect the corresponding cell, but the transduction mechanism has long been a black box. Though there are results that second messengers, like Ca2+, are mechanosensitive, it is unclear which receptor reacts to mechanical stimulation. We used ATDC5, chondrocytes derived from mice, to survey the mechanosensitive receptors against hydrostatic pressure (HP). Fura2 AM was used for imaging the intracellular Ca2+ intensity. It was observed by EM-CCD camera (HAMAMATSU), under the HP ranged from 0 to 40MPa. We found that some cells under high ordered HP, raised their Ca2+ intensity slightly in the period of less than 3 minutes. From this experiment, we showed the possibility that chondrocytes could be mechanosensitive against high HP. For further study, we could use inhibitors for each possible Ca2+ receptors and strive to find the gate of mechanotransduction.
