We have collaborated a student rocket project with the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) since 1995 and two student sounding rockets were launched in 2000 and in 2002. The student rocket is designed and made by students during from the planning to analysis. The third launch will be at Alaska in March 2005. The apogee altitude of rocket is designed to 100 km. Tokai student team has made a UV. sensor, a digital sun sensor and a 3-axial fluxgate magnetometer on this rocket. We have a plan to measure ultraviolet ray in the polar region. By UV measuring, we may estimate the ozone density and total ozone quantity as a scientific mission. We also can measure a rocket attitude performance by a magnetometer and a sun sensor as the second task.

It is experimentally known that the insert tools significantly change in their cutting performances when being subject to an electric field. For example, electrically/magnetically treated inserts show mach longer tool life (average 2 times) than those untreated. This research takes the first step to develop a very low cost system for electrical/magnetic insert treatment, and systematically investigate the electrical effects on the tool performance. A series of cutting tests have been executed to compare the tool performances between the treated/untreated tools. The tool performance has been evaluated from viewpoint of magnetic flux distribution, hardness and flank wear. The ultimate results lead to an analytical conclusion and a principle for tool performance optimization.

種々の型式の蒸汽タービンの段落効率の一般的研究は既に屡々発表した通りである.今囘はこの一般的研究に於て取扱はなかつた速度複式衝動タービン(主としてテリータービン及びエレクトラタービンの如き特殊型のもの)に就て論じた.即ち段落効率の理論式を誘導し, これを基礎として効率に及す諸因子の影響を明らかにした.本研究に依て知り得たる主なる事項を擧げると次の如くである.(i) 速度複式衝動タービンの諸型式例へばカーチス, テリー及びエレクトラ型の如きは一見著しい相違があるやうに見えるが, 夫々の場合に對する條件を入れることに依て全く同一の方法によりその効率を論じ得ることが明らかとなつた.(ii) この種のタービンでは一般にカーチスタービンの場合に就て既に知られてゐる樣に, 先づ2速段が最も適當と考へてよいことも分かつた.(iii) 輻流タービンにおける蒸汽の流動は, 半徑方向に内向きの流れをなすものと, 外向きの流れの場合の兩型式がある.低速度比に對しては外向きの流れの方が勝れてゐるが, 高速度比の最大効率を生ずる前後では内向きの流れの型式が優秀なことにも論及した.

本研究では, 干渉駆動を用いた高速動作を実現するゴルフスイングロボットを開発し, その機構と制御法の有効性を実証してきた。本報では手首関節にストッパ無しの場合フルスイング実験を行い, その結果を報告する。

There are many tasks in which cumbersome protective suits or large mass of objects to be manipulated obstruct "intuitive" skills such as picking up and grasping. Workers engaged in such tasks are distressed for inefficiency or early fatigue. However, the efficiency or fatigue will be improved if they can perform their intuitive skills even in those tasks by wearing an intelligent machine. Based on this idea, we proposed the concept of the wearable robot "SkilMate". This paper proposes a new type of mechanism named "wearable HEXA" as a prototype shoulder joint of the SkilMate. This mechanism is designed wearable and to give no constraint caused by geometrical factors for a wearer, so that movements of his/her shoulder necessary for the intuitive skills are not impeded and interfered. Detail of the mechanism and its design process are described, and evaluation for an experimental mechanism manufactured along the design process is demonstrated.

本報告では,義手が適切に処方され利用されることを目標として,能動上腕義手を例にとり,その課題と筆者らの取り組みを示した.能動義手は既知の技術であるが,日本において利用状況は極めて低い.外観を理由に拒否されるが,筋電位制御式の義手と比較し,優れたフィードバック系を有し,特に上腕切断者が自立した生活を送る上では非常に有効な道具となりえるゆえ,適切な理解と評価を受けているとはいいがたい.筆者らは,能動上腕義手の技術的な問題がシンプルな構造ゆえ調整が難しい点にあることに着目し,コントロールケーブルシステムに関する基礎実験と数値シミュレータの作成を進めた,これら取り組みの中間報告と今後の課題について述べた.

環境との相互作用から柔軟に形態を変化させ新たな機能創出を行うシステムを形態機能機械としてとらえ, 複数台の自律移動モジュールが柔軟に結合した線状クラスタロボットシステムの形態機能の創出について研究を行っている。今回クラスタロボットモジュール用に分離可能な結合機構を開発した。形態形成実験の実機実験およびコンピュータシミュレーション結果を報告する。

The objective of this study was to estimate the optimization of fuel cell electric vehicle systems by the driving simulation that we developed. The results of the driving simulation showed the power of fuel cell, battery and motor for a 1 500 cc class sedan is 12, 18 and 15 kW at the condition of 10-15 mode of the minimum fuel consumption. The fuel consumption of the series driving system of FCEV was more than the parallel because of the heavier vehicle weight of the series compared to the parallel. The numerical analysis showed that the FCEV performance is affected by the regenerative brake and the fuel consumption of the FCEV with the regenerative brake systems is 23% less than without them.

In this research, we focus on the impedance adjustment function of human to evaluate his/her mobility function in a quantitative way. We consider that pedaling exercise is suitable for measuring lower limb kinematic impedance parameters, and aim at the establishment of the method which measure lower limb kinematic impedance parameters during pedaling exercise. In this paper, we propose the method of estimating lower limb kinematic impedance parameters during pedaling exercise using a multiple joint link model to take into consideration movement of each body segment which was not taken into consideration in a previous study. As a result, it becomes possible to take into consideration the inuence of the gravity of each body segment, and it is thought that estimated accuracy improved.

In this article, we propose a cycling wheelchair controlled by the servo brake. The cycling wheelchair is a pedal-driven system and support the moving of many patients with impairment of their lower extremities. This wheelchair has a potential as a mobility assistive device to improve the daily activities. However, there are several barriers to use the cycling wheelchair in an outdoor environment. Especially, on downward slopes, patients cannot properly apply the braking torque to the pedal. This inability to slow the wheelchair presents a dangerous situation. On the other hand, the cycling wheelchair is an effective rehabilitation device, so that many patients to use it as an indoor training device. For rehabilitation, the device should have functions to not only apply the load to the patients but also encourage the patients to train. In this study, we propose a new cycling wheelchair for supporting both outdoor moving and indoor training. The cycling wheelchair has servo brake system and interface to connect the personal computer. By controlling the brake system, the velocity control in the outdoor environment is realized. In addition, the braking force can apply the load to the patients for their rehabilitation in the indoor environment, and they can also enjoy the computer game and virtual environment by using the cycling wheelchair as an interface such as key bode and joystick.

Since the establishment of the Shinkansen Speed-up Project in 2002, JR East has been developing various technologies seeking for world top level Shinkansen not only in operating speed but also in safety, environmental friendliness and riding quality. In this project, JR East has developed two high speed experimental train sets, Fastech360S and Fastech360Z. The technological target of Fastech360 is to realize 360km/h commercial operation. After a 2-year test running of them, JR East decided to increase the maximum operation speed of Tohoku Shinkansen from 275km/h to 320km/h. This paper describes the overview of the R&D project and the developed technologies, and the subjects to be solved for further speedup for the future as well.

To increase the speed of Shinkansen trains, it becomes more important to reduce the noise generated from Shinkansen cars. We developed the high-speed test trains "FASTECH360" that have new equipment such as low-noise pantographs, pantograph noise insulation plates and sound-absorbing panels for the noise from the lower area of car bodies. We conducted running tests using "FASTECH360" from June of 2005 to June of 2009. As a result, the noise level of "FASTECH360S"(runs only on Shinkansen line) at the speed of 360km/h is reduced by more than 4 dB compared to that of series E2-1000, present commercial trains, at the speed of 360 km/h (at a distance of 25 m from the track). We also performed the noise analysis of "FASTECH360S" at 360 km/h. Consequently, we estimated that pantograph noise contribution to the overall noise level was reduced by about 7dB compared to that of E2-1000 at 360 km/h and contribution of noise from the lower part of cars to the overall noise level was reduced by about 1dB as well.

The characteristics of LACE, or a liquid air cycle engine, for hypersonic airbreathing propulsion is discussed. Both air and hydorgen are pumped up to a high pressure in the liquid phase; the liquid air and gaseous hydrogen from the heat exchanger (air condenser) are burned in a rocket chamber and are expanded in a normal propelling nozzle. With the speed range up to a Mach number of 10, LACE can be found to maintain its superiority over the rocket concering the specific impulse.
