The sounding mechanism in air-reed instruments is investigated based on the computational fluid dynamics. While previous studies have assumed a sound source based on acoustic theory, the authors attempt in the present study to elucidate exactly the source of sound as an essential factor defining the timbre of musical instruments. To deal with the large computational grids required to capture minute changes in pressure, the Hitachi SR 8000 massively parallel supercomputer is employed for computation. The computational results are consistent with Brown's experimental equation, and new frequency component revealed only in this three-dimensional analysis is identified, attributed to the harmonics of the air jet.

The influence of uniaxial compressive stress on the oxygen ion and mixed conductivity of Zr_<0.82>Y_<0.18>O_<1.91>, Ce_<0.9>Gd_<0.1>O_<1.95-δ>,Yba_2Cu_3O_<7-δ>,and La_2NiO_<4+δ> were investigated by using AC 4 probe method under controlled oxygen partial pressure condition. The applied compressive stress was ranged from 0 Mpa to 350 MPa for these specimens in air at 600℃. In order to clarify the reason for the phenomenon of conductivity change, the mixed conductivity of Ce_<0.9>Gd_<0.1>O_<1.95-δ> for the application of stresses were measured under reducing conditions. The experimental result revealed that as the application compressive stress increases, the carrier concentration remain steady, whereas the mobility decreases. The conductivity was decreased with increasing compressive strain, this trend agreed with that of the simulation results. Therefore, the decrease of mobility was considered to be the reason for the decline conductivity under compressive strain/stress conditions.

電子ビーム誘発された堆積(EBID)はカーボンナノチューブ(CNT)エミッターを通して実現された。ナノマニピュレーションによってナノチューブエミッターと基板の間のギャップが377nmに調整され, 120Vのバイアスをかけて, 2μAの放出電流が得られることを示した。同じ真空室の電界放出走査電子顕微鏡(FESEM)の熱電子銃による従来のEBIDと比較すると, ナノチューブエミッターのバイアスと放出電流は, それぞれFESEMの熱電子銃のわずか0.8%および1.9%であるが, 堆積率はそれの12.2%に達したことが分かった。そして, 最後にパラレルEBIDは提案された。

In order to study unsteady flowfield around high speed trains passing by each other, a three-dimensional inviscid numerical method based on three types of domain decomposition techniques is developed. Roe&rsquo;s FDS scheme is used for the space discretization, and LU-SGS method is adopted for the time integration. After validation of the code to a single track train/tunnel interaction problems with three dimensional tunnel configuration, the numerical simulations of the trains passing by on the double-track are performed for the 5 different cases using 3 basic parameters; e.g. nose shape, existence of tunnel, and train length. After the parametric study, variational parametric studies are carried out to understand the effects of the velocity of the train, the gap between the train and the blockage ratio. Firstly, train/tunnel interaction problems for double track railway system are investigated and aerodynamics loads histories during the crossing events&mdash;train/train interaction problem&mdash;are presented and discussed.

Influences of the recycling process on the fatigue crack propagation (FCP) property of glass fiber-reinforced PEEK were examined. In the present research the influence of the recycling process on the property of matrix resin was focused on. The main results were as follows: (1)It was noted that the FCP property of recycled PEEK/GF materials were as superior to that of virgin material. (2)The length of glass fibers in PEEK resin as not markedly reduced during the recycling process, due to the good fluidity of PEEK resin. (3)FCP curves on a da/dN-&Delta;K diagram for virgin and recycled PEEK/GF materials were expressed as one curved line on a da/dN-&Delta;K/E diagram. It was found that the elasticity modulus had been improved by repeated melting and crystallization during the recycling process.

The authors invented the unique wind power unit composed of the large-sized front wind rotor, the small-sized rear wind rotor and the peculiar generator with the inner and the outer armatures. The rotational torques of both armatures/wind rotors are counter-balanced, while the rotational speeds and the directions are adjusted automatically in response to the wind conditions. The prototype unit is composed of the tandem wind rotors, whose front and rear diameters are 2 m and 1.33 m, and the double rotational armatures type synchronous generator. The unit was setup at the roof of an isolated building at Kitakyushu city in Japan. The field test results proved that this type unit may be effective to get the sufficient output if the profiles of the wind rotors and the peculiar generator are optimized.

The authors have invented the superior wind turbine generator, which is composed of the tandem wind rotors and the double rotational armature type generator without the conventional stator. The large-sized front wind rotor and the small-sized rear wind rotor drive respectively the inner and the outer armatures of the generator, in keeping the rotational torque counter-balanced. Such operating conditions enable to make the output higher than the conventional turbine and to keep the output constant in the rated operating mode without the brake and/or the pitch control mechanisms. This paper discusses mainly the effect of the wind rotor profile (camber and twist) on the diameter ratio and the axial distance between both wind rotors.

This paper proposes the unique wind turbine system, which is composed of the tandem wind rotors and the peculiar generator with the inner and the outer rotors, and discusses the wonderful advantages of the system. The large-sized front wind rotor and the small-sized rear wind rotor drive respectively the inner and the outer rotors of the generator, in keeping the rotational torque counter-balancing. Such operating conditions enable to make the cut-in wind speed slower and to keep the frequency/output constant irrespective of the wind speed, without the conventional breaking and/or the pitch control mechanism.
