The purpose of this study is to grasp the situation of Hoshigaoka-Charyo in the early days. Then I consider the character, the circumstances and the meaning of this house. Especially, I take notice of several changes of the plan for this project. In conclusion, it found two sides to its character, intention of artistic accomplishments and spiritual. Then one may say that there were two situations, a sign of revival of Cha-no-Yu in the modern era and the Sens' scheme. It follows from what was been said that this house was placed the dawn of modern sukiya-style.

The climatic response of cities to the heat island effect is thought to vary by city size and location. In this paper, we analyzed weather data for representative Japanese cities from 1961 onwards and examined characteristics of time series meteorological data statistics such as annual number of tropical nights. The number of winter days decreased, and the number of summer nights, tropical nights and extremely hot days increased in all cities. As a result of principal component analysis, the rise of temperature was identified as the first principal component, and the decline of the daily range of temperatures was identified as the second principal component. A cluster analysis using the first four principal components categorized the 16 Japanese cities into four sets. Factors related to the results of the principal component are discussed with the aid of multiple regression analysis. Numerical results show that the magnitude of the first principal component is described by latitude and distance from the sea, the magnitude of the second principal component is described by the logarithm of the DID (Densely Inhabited District) population and distance from the sea.

This paper describes a method to calculate "natural exergies" associated with solar radiation, effective radiation, evaporation of water and underground warm and cool storage. We first examined the variable types of so-called natural energy, which is a technical term widely used in the field of building environmental science, and then showed that they can be defined by the concept of exergy. We call this "natural exergy". The values of any natural exergies are positive. For example, stored exergy under the ground as a quantity of state is positive without exception. We calculated the annual amounts of natural exergies in Tokyo, and we tabulated the results as a chart that can be used to evaluate the regional climatic situation from the view point of exergy.

This paper describes a method to calculate exergy and entropy balances of a leaf with an emphasis on photosynthesis and secretion. The purpose of investigating such balances is to have a better understanding of the exergy-entropy process of a leaf, which is a fundamental member of trees as a shading device with evaporative cooling capability for passive cooling of a building, together with the exergy-entropy process of various building environmental control systems such as lighting, cooling, and heating systems. We have derived the exergy balance equations for a leaf, taking into consideration not only the dispersion of energy due to the absorption of solar radiation and heat transfer, but also the dispersion of carbon dioxides, water vapor, and oxygen. Example calculation showed the following: exergy consumption within the leaf is 94% of the supplied exergy, which is the sum of the exergies of solar radiation, effective sky longwave radiation, and water; a half of the rest, namely 3%, is stored within the glucose, and the other is discharged with water vapor into the environment of the leaf and then consumed totally until the water vapor reaches the environment.

We developed a method to calculate entropy values associated with mutual diffusion of substances and to articulate an exergy-entropy process of human body in terms of water and other inorganic substances. The purpose is to have a better understanding of the consumption process of freshwater resource of human body. It was found that human body consumes 95% of the supplied exergy of inorganic matter and disposes of the rest, namely 5%, with urine. The amount of water, 1.0〜1.6kg/day, which is required by human body, was confirmed to be optimum for maintaining actively the state of exergy in terms of inorganic matters in human body, while consuming the least exergy of freshwater. The disposal of entropy generated within human body by urination makes room for consuming exergy contained by freshwater.

The purpose of this paper is to consider the roles of consultants for the rebuilding projects of suffered condominiums in THE GREAT HANSHIN EARTHQUAKE. The results are following: i) The consultants are town planners, redevelopment co-ordinators, architects, engineers and so on. ii) Their main services are planning, inner co-ordination and outer co-ordination. Engineering and architectural design are often served by other experts. Secretariat services were given by residents and consultants. iii) According to the types of project methods, we found the differences in the scales of condominiums, consultants attributes, services sharing and self-evaluation to the consultants types.

This study explores characteristics and opinions of the occupants of private temporary housing (PTH) after the Great Hanshin Quake by questionnaire. Concerning to the floor space of PTH, 40-60 m^2 is most popular. The building costis 400-800 million yen. Many of the occupants built PTH in order to restart their business or to release from evacuation life. After building PTH, they have complained a lack of space but recognized PTH could make them obtain local information easily. Many PTHs are built in the reconstruction project areas. It does not mean the project brought incentive to build PTH. Contrarily, the project has prevented the occupants from building their permanent house. It is necessary to introduce financial support program because the occupants faced difficulty to prepare building cost.

The purpose of this study is to make clear the fluctuations of water balance and BOD-loading in development areas, where the changing conditions of building's composition and the combination of water reuse systems and rainwater treatment systems. The simulation program, including monthly and weekly fluctuations, is developed to evaluate the fluctuations of water reuse systems. After this, case studies are conducted using this program. The results are as follows. Water reuse systems have large fluctuations when using rainwater treatment system. The fluctuations are leveled where office buildings and hotels exist in the ratio of 40:60 in development areas.

A waterproofing membrane is partially fixed to a substrate by fasteners in mechanically anchored systems. For designing a safer anchored waterproofing system against typhoons, it is needed to make clear the behavior of it under strong wind. Two kinds of full size specimens with a parapet and without one were exposed to high wind speed of a wind tunnel. The behavior of the system was investigated from the three aspects such as wind forces to a membrane, deformation of a membrane and tensile forces of fasteners induced by high wind. Strong wind force was observed in the area close to the windward edge for the roof without a parapet and about 1m on the leeward from a parapet for the roof with a parapet. The membrane was lifted up by wind to about 60mm in maximum height and was extended to about 0.6% in maximum elongation and it oscillated about 5-20Hz in periodic time. The tensile force of more than 160N was observed in some fasteners, depending on the location in the roof.

The noticeable point of The Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake is enormous damages in inner city, especially in wooden clustered houses area. In order to generalize the damages of clustered houses, we have made comprehensive surveys in 4 areas where had different kind of earthquake shock. (3 areas had a shock with seismic intensity of 7, the other had with 6) The purpose of this study is making following points clear. 1. The factor of damages in the wooden clustered houses areas. (The relationship of structure, arrangement, construction time to the degree of damages) 2. What the wooden clustered houses areas used to be before the earthquake.

The purpose of this study is to grasp the possibility of using recycled aggreate concrete in the reinforced concrete structures. Using recycled aggreate in full to a beam member, the seismic performance of this member was compared with that of normal concrete member through the tests concerning flextural, shear and bond. The parameters of the tests were failure mode and concrete compressive strength. From the test results, the failure mode can be predicted and the seismic performance of RC members with recycled aggregate concrete were the same as those of the normal RC members. Futheremore, it was found that the strengths of the RC members with recycled aggregate concrete can be calculated as a safty side by previous strength equations.

This paper discusses the characteristics of the wind damage to residential houses caused by Typhoon 9119 in Akita and Aomori Prefectures, based on the results of a damage investigation. It is found that the damage strongly depends on the framework and construction method of roofs. Furthermore, the results of a multivariate regression analysis indicate that the damage ratio for an area is related to the local topography as well as to the number of households in the area.

In this study the energy consumption and the CO_2 emissions of housing in prefectural capitals all over Japan have been estimated and characteristics of the transition of them in recent 30 years have been made clear. The energy consumption was increasing remarkably in every cities, and this increase was influenced by climate, expenditure, and residential area. To reduce the v emissions 6% below 1990 levels, 20% of 1995 levels must be reduced in average. In many cities, the major factor of the increase of CO_2 emissions was the increase of using lighting and electrical outlet.

The buildings of a thermal power plant are generally supported by a large number of piles. When conducting a dynamic analysis of such buildings, the dynamic interaction system of a pile groupshould be evaluated. In this paper, the interaction system is proposed for the responses of the thermal power plant buildings subjected to earthquake excitation. The system is based on the simplified methods currently proposed by the authors, for the impedances of a pile group. The results of the analysis show that the interaction system is practical for the dynamic analysis of a building supported on a large number of piles.
