The big project that plan to elevate continuously crossing the railroad in JR Chuo Line Mitaka-Tachikawa Station was at the same time author's graduate school. But the author judged that this project is not just limited to easing traffic jam. First the author grasps the actual environmental vibration conditions by investigate vibration in JR Chuo Line Mitaka-Tachikawa Station. Next, the author compares and checks data that measured before elevate the railroad by factor of the quality (frequency) and the quantity (volume) and reads the changes in the environment and considers the effect. Key Words : Environmental vibration, elevate the railroad, JR Chuo Line Mitaka-Tachikawa station,

Access city road for Higashi-Ogishima is only submarine tunnel now. Therefore, it has some problem. These are traffic jam on rush hour and redundancy. And then, it gets on new city road project. This study evaluates environment and disaster measure that does not include cost-benefit analysis. In the conclusion, Concern of environment can expect improvement 4 indexes and calculate benefit. These are CO 2 , NOx, PM and SO 2 . The total benefit is about 1.87 billion yen. Disaster measures can expect to cancel of a detour and improve other area. Weak point is improved about 1.5~3 points. Key Words : Traffic demand, Quantitative evaluation, Environment, Redundancy

The chief aim of this paper is a reexamination, within a Japanese context, of the "learning region" concept. Since the mid l990s, this concept has often been employed in the economic geography of the Western World, where it generally focuses upon industrial clusters of high-technology small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) under the pressure of economic globalization. However, the same concept can also be applied to the middle-tech and low-tech manufacturing industries in the l970s. A concrete instance is aptly provided by the Suwa-Okaya district of Nagano Prefecture in Japan. In this region, after World War II, precision machine industry was developed, followed in the l970s by micro-electronics industry for office instruments; together, both SMEs and larger corporations learned technologies and skills of NC (numerically controlled) machines with and from each other. The Precision Technology Research Institute of Nagano Prefecture played an important role for the establishment of the NC Technology Research Association, in which over fifty corporations took part; more than half of them were based in the Suwa-Okaya district. Through the activities of the association, participants could obtain knowledge of NC machines. At first, the skills accumulated in individual firms as tacit knowledge, which, in the course of association activities, was transformed to codified knowledge. With the collaboration of a machine manufacturer located outside the district, one of the participating SMEs contributed to innovations of NC lathe technology. In l982, due to diffusion and skill development among SMEs in Nagano Prefecture, the association was dissolved. But the same year saw the birth of its successor: a new association, which continues its activity today. The sustainability of the Suwa-Okaya district as an industrial cluster can, at least in part, be attributed to the network of local corporations.

What kind of special features did "the Japanese Colonial Empire"have in the general history of modern colonial empires? In recent years, we can find new developments in the research of thehistory of modern empires and the history of Japanese empire. However, the trend has not yet resulted in the stage of discussing specialfeatures from a comparative-historical view, relating to the "Japaneseempire" to general "empires". As a first step, the purpose of this paperis to look back upon the history of the colonial rule of Japan over about50 years and to summarize some special features. As we reach 60 yearsafter the defeat of Japan, it must be worth showing such a trial todiscuss the source of Japan's influence on modern East Asian history. We discuss special features found in the rule of modern Japanesecolonial empire, summarizing the four points below: (1) Late-comingimperialism, (2) Neighbor invasive imperialism, (3) Inland assimilationprinciple, and (4) Industrial development principle.

Nawadays Macau (澳門), a Portuguese colony, attracts many visitors from all over the world. This city was once called "the City of Death" in the last century, but it is going to be recreated a new, modern city, sprouting dozens of new buildings here and there.I visited Macau once and enjoyed staying there. What attracted my attention and impressed me deeply was the old remains of the façade of St.Paul's church located almost in the middle of the city, where quite a few Japanese Christians were buried; reportedly they helped to build it many centuries ago.The façade maintains the solemnity and beauty as well.During my brief stay in Macau, I was happy to make the acquaintance of Fr.Manuel Teixeira, an eminent orientalist and priest, who not only showed me round the historic spots but enlightened me greatly as to the history of the city.I well remember I was lost in admiration of two oil-paingtings, one of which shows the crucification of the Japanese Christians at Nagasaki and other of St.Michael, the Archangel in Seminário S.José (聖若瑟修院).As regards the latter, the name of the painter remains unknown. However, according to Fr.M.Teixeira, one of the four Japanese Christians, all of whom were the disciples of Giovanni Nicolo (1560~1626), a famous Italian priest and master in the art of sacred paingtings, painted it. Supposedly the painters are: (1) Mancio Taichiku (?~1615), born in Udo (宇土), in the province of Higo (肥後国), died in Macau.(2) Peter Chikuam alias Pedro Joãn (?~1622), died in Macau.(3) Todeu (?~1638), died in Macau.(4) Yacob Niva (丹羽?) alias Yacobo Niva (?~1638), died in Macau. It is said Yacob Niva towered above others as a painter. This article deals with the Japanese Christians in Macau and with the painting of the Archangel. The identity of the artist, however, still remains unknown. In conclusion, I'd like to express my deep indebtedness to Fr.M.Texiera and some of the university libraries in Tokyo for providing assistance during my research.
