Assuming that patent trolls would come up in the field of software and the like in Japan in the future, we have proposed countermeasures to apply compulsory license against their exercise of patent right. Specifically, in order to avoid injunctive relief of the patent trolls, we have proposed that the enforcement regulation for Japanese Patent Act Article 83 is overhauled in attempt to broadly construe the provision of "the grant of non-exclusive license where invention is not worked" as "the grant of non-exclusive license where invention will not be worked in the future". Also, we have compared such countermeasures with other countermeasures to apply the principle of abuse of rights to the injunctive relief.

Recent development in power electronics has made power semiconductor device larger and complicated, and device simulation is necessary to predict their characteristics. From the fundamental equations of semiconductor device, potential distribution and carrier concentrations can be solved using the finite element method. In this study, we make formulation for one dimensional analysis of a gate turn off thyristor (GTO) and simulate switching characteristics in order to know the effects of snubber circuit. In conclusion snubber condensor is necessary to suppress spike voltage, but increases the turn off loss of GTO.

In this paper, we propose a method for recognizing phoneme by using a sequence of color lip images. The mouth images are obtained in series by using the color camera set at the front of the face. First, among the sequence of the images, each object image for processing is detected by using mouth movement information. Next step, in each image, the mouth region is detected by the color information. Then, the four shapes which are outside line of lip, the inside line of lip, the tangue and the center line of lip are extracted by using the change in distribution of gray level. Finally, the recognition of phoneme is carried out by the method based on the subspace method. As the training, the subspace method needs the 20 features extracted from the above four shapes. In this paper, the authors describe the results of the experiments which were performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Today, many goods are developed using the mental effect by the color. As a typical example, bath salts can be mentioned. In this study, the SD technique was used to quantitatively determine about how the color of solution influence the mental effect by 15 subjects. The results showed that effects by the red shades such as "warmth", and by the blue and purple shades such as "composedness", were high. Also, it clarified about the influence by the white muddiness.

Motion recognition based on sensory information is important for providing assistance to human using robots. Several studies have been carried out on motion recognition based on image information. However, in the motion of humans contact with an object can not be evaluated precisely by image-based recognition. This is because the considering force information is very important for describing contact motion. In this paper, a modal-power-based haptic motion recognition is proposed; modal power is considered to reveal information on both position and force. Modal power is considered to be one of the defining features of human motion. A motion recognition algorithm based on linear discriminant analysis is proposed to distinguish between similar motions. Haptic information is extracted using a bilateral master-slave system. Then, the observed motion is decomposed in terms of primitive functions in a modal space. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

"DC Micro-grid" is a novel power system using dc distribution in order to provide super high quality electric power. The power is distributed through dc distribution line and converted to required ac or dc voltages by converters placed near loads. The load side converters do not need transformers by choosing proper distributed dc voltage (±170V). The dc distribution line is composed of 3 power lines: +170V line, neutral line and -170V line. The voltages of ±170V have to be balanced to supply high quality power. In this paper, a voltage balancing control method for dc distribution is proposed and studied. Computer simulation results demonstrated that dc micro-grid was able to supply both ac and dc power to loads simultaneously and stably by 3-wire dc distribution and load side converters.

Various models for the equivalent circuit of EDLC (Electric Double Layer Capacitor) have been presented so far. The multi-stage connection of RC circuit is a representative model to simulate the EDLC's charge-discharge characteristic. However, since high energy density type EDLC for electric power storage has the electrostatic capacity of thousands F, the phenomenon of being almost uninfluential for the case of conventional capacitor appears in an actual measurement notably. To overcome this difficulty, we develop an equivalent circuit model using a nonlinear model that considers the voltage dependency of the electrostatic capacity in this paper. After various simulations and comparison with experimental results, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed model.

The torsional vibration between metal rolling rolls and a rolling mill motor, may occur in recent days, as a result of higher speed response adjustment for variable speed rolling mill motor drive system. Issues in this paper are focused on excess acceleration value, in tangential direction of the mill motor rotor, which is caused by the motor shaft torsional resonance at the white noise signal superposition to the speed reference signal of the motor drive system for the online transfer function analysis. As a result of the acceleration analysis, the acceleration values in "G" (Relative acceleration value on the basis of Gravity) can be plotted on "Bode-Diagram", which is namely frequency response for the speed signal amplitude transmission ratio. In addition, relation between the white noise amplitude reduction and the transfer function analysis accuracy deterioration is also examined, in this paper. As the amplitude of the white noise decreases, the analysis error increases because of the reduction in the resolution when the amplitude of the white noise signal is small.

This paper proposed an active finger recognition method using Bayesian filter in order to control a myoelectric hand. We have previously proposed a finger joint angle estimation method based on measured surface electromyography (EMG) signals and a linear model. However, when we estimate 2 or more finger angles by this estimation method, the estimation angle of the inactive finger is not accurate. This is caused by interference of surface EMG signal. To solve this interference problem, we proposed active finger recognition method from the amplitude spectrum of surface EMG signal using Bayesian filter. To confirm the effectiveness of this recognition method, we developed a myoelectric hand simulator that implements proposed recognition algorithm and carried out real-time recognition experiment.

The control of conveyance between processes still relies on the engineer's experience. It is difficult to correspond to the change in the conveyance layout due to the expansion and reduction of production and the breakdown of conveyance devices. In this paper, we propose a conveyance control system that can adapt to changes in the conveyance layout and we aim at the improvement of the amount of total conveyance.<br>First of all, the system is divided into the part where the conveyance layout is made a data base and the part where the conveyance control that uses the congestion index is done. Therefore, it is possible to deal flexibly by changing the data base part without changing the conveyance control part when it is necessary to change the conveyance layout suddenly.<br>In all the combinations of the conveyance layout and the turning on pattern used as a result of the simulation, the proposed conveyance control method became a great result by the amount of total conveyance.

Energy release from MIM structure of Al / nonpolar LB film / Au had continued for about three years,<sup> </sup>and temperature around MIM was reduced. In our present study, analyses were carried out on electrical properties of MIM of ultrathin polyimide LB film. Current, voltage and electrical power were analyzed in stationary state.

This paper proposes a visual servo control method for exploring motion of eye-in-hand robot to recognize a three-dimensional object. The CCD camera attached at the manipulator tip captures the images of the target object, and then the robot varies its own posture with referring the position transitions in the images of the feature points on the object. Our approach for optimal motion is based on the strategy in which the position estimation precision of the feature points in the captured images gets improved when the feature points move widely, and the optimal robot motion provides the widest transitions of the feature points per unit robot motion, so that the robot should be controlled to purse such motion. In the proposed method, the primary feature point is made located at the center of the image, while the other points are moved for achieving the optimal transition in the image. In addition, this paper describes the way to reduce calculation effort for the proposed method. The numerical and physical experiments have been executed with use of 3-DOF planar manipulator. The validity of our approach is confirmed in the several experimental results.
