"AWA ODDRI" dance is one of the traditional dance festival of Tokushima Prefecture in Japan. Basic operation of "AWA ODORI" dance needs harmony of hands and legs, and the rhythm of duple time, but it is not possible that the beginners do these actions completely. We have already developed the method of quantifying evaluation of the skill of "AWA ODORI" dance. But the three dimensional movements are not able to be evaluated by image squences. In this paper, the authors proposed a method of quantifying evaluation of the skill of "AWA ODORI" dance by using the three dimensional data. In this method, the image sequence of dance scenes is obtained by a stereo camera with a simple of structure. The dynamics of motion is detected by three dimensional data calculated by the stereo camera. The input data and model data of excellent dancers are compared. In this paper, we describe the algorithm of quantifying evaluation of the skill using the stereo view and show some experimental results obtained by using a simple experimental system to verify effectiveness of the proposed method.

The triggered vacuum gap (TVG) is a closing switch for generating large current pulse and can work in the wide range of voltage for several kV to tens kV. Main electrodes are made of Ag-WC. One of main electrode has a hole for trigger electrode (Mo). The switching time is short, if the polarity of the holed-electrode is negative. It is called polarity effect. We devised a crowbar circuit using the polarity effect of the TVGs. The crowbar current of this circuit was investigated experimentally by varying applied voltage, inductance, capacitance, gap length of TVGs, and trigger current duration. A crowbar current, crest of which is 2.4 kA and 4.9/270µs for example, was observed. The probability of generating the crowbar current was more than about 90 %, in the following condition: the trigger current duration of 6.65 µs and the gap length of 2-6 mm.

This paper presents that, in hot strip finishing mills, AC motor drive systems improve the strip tension control performance which results in better strip thickness accuracy than DC motor drive systems.<br>Recently the AC motors are more widely used in many industrial fields including steel making process because of their higher response of speed control, higher reliability, and easier maintenance than DC motors. Here we consider the effect of using AC motors as rolling main motors from a point of view of strip thickness accuracy. We analyse the relation between speed control response of the strip tension control system and strip thickness accuracy with use of the Bode diagram and non-linear simulation. As a result we show that the higher response of AC motor speed control system can achieve the smaller strip tension deviation, furthermore makes it possible to get higher response of gage control system which turns more accurate strip thickness.

High speed cameras have the ability to detect luminance variation due to the alternating current of illuminations. On the basis of the luminance variation, this paper proposes a method to estimate an image of when one of the illuminations is nonluminous. If the nonluminous illumination is the source of specular reflection, the estimated image only includes diffuse reflection components of other illuminations. Experimental results in various conditions show that specular reflection components are eliminated without the displacement of a camera or an illumination.

A control scheme for quickly starting a portable X-ray generator used in the livestock industry is proposed in this paper. A portable X-ray generator used to take X-ray images of animals such as horses, sheep and dogs should be capable of starting quickly because it is difficult for veterinarians to take X-ray images of animals at their timing. In order to develop a scheme for starting the X-ray tube quickly, it is necessary to analysis the X-ray tube. However, such an analysis has not been discussed until now. First, the states of an X-ray tube are classified into the temperature-limited state and the space-charge-limited state. Furthermore, existence of "mixed state" that comprises both is newly proposed in this paper. From these analyses, a novel scheme for quickly starting an X-ray generator is proposed; this scheme is considered with the characteristics of the X-ray tube. The proposed X-ray system that is capable of starting quickly is evaluated on the basis of experimental results.

This paper concerns a DC-DC converter control. In DC-DC converters, there exist both continuous components such as inductance, conductance and resistance and discrete ones, IGBT and MOSFET as semiconductor switching elements. Such a system can be regarded as a hybrid dynamical system. Thus, this paper presents a dc-dc control technique based on the model predictive control. Specifically, a case in which the load of the dc-dc converter changes from active to sleep is considered. In the case, a control method which makes the output voltage follow to the reference quickly in transition, and the switching frequency be constant in steady state. In addition, in applying the model predictive control to power electronics circuits, the switching characteristic of the device and the restriction condition for protection are also considered. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by comparing a conventional method through some simulation results.

A suitable structure for small-capacity generator must be simple, robust, highly reliable and maintenance-free.The authors present an original brushless cylindrical-rotor type 4-pole three-phase synchronous generator without excitor. The stator is provided with a 4-pole three-phase main winding and a 2-pole single-phase exciting winding, and rotor field coils are connected with diodes, respectively, so as to make the same pole magnetic field as the stator main winding. The each field coil is consisted of a half-wave rectification circuit. The rotor field excitation is controlled proportionally by the stator dc exciting current.By the scheme that the stator main winding is connected to leading capacitors at the terminals for shunt excitation, and connected to the full-wave rectifier at the neutral point and the rectified current supplied to the stator exciting winding for series excitation, a brushless self-excited three-phase synchronous generator has been achieved.In this paper the circuit configuration of the generator and the experimental results using a 2kVA prototype machine are shown.

A method is proposed for designing a robust controller for PWM power amplifiers, which are widely used as amplifiers themselves and power supplies. The main technical requirements imposed on PWM power amplifiers are linerarity in wide frequency range and well-damped fast dynamic response against extensive load and d. c. power supply variations. Therefore, in order to satisfy the design specifications-linearity in wide frequency range and no overshoots during the transients, an approximate 2-degree-of-freedom integral type control structure is proposed as well as a design procedure for the robust controller is discussed. It is clarified from some simulations and experiments that the designed controller shows highlighted good dynamic performances and effective disturbance rejection properties against external disturbances, i. e. load and power-supply variations.

The number of installation of Distributed Generators (DG) such as photovoltaic and wind generations has been rapidly increasing in the world. Penetration of DG can contribute to reduce CO<sub>2</sub> emissions and conserve energy. On the other hand, since reverse power flow from DG to distribution system occurs exceed of the upper limit of adequate range of voltage, various voltage control methodologies have been proposed in order to keep voltage within the secure range. This paper describes several advanced voltage control technologies and shows the trend and future perspective about the control of distribution system with many DGs.

In electric motor coaches, when the adhesion force coefficient between rail and driving wheel decreases suddenly, the electric motor coach has slip phenomena. We have already proposed the anti-slip control system based on ordinary disturbance observer. In order to realize the more stable anti-slip readhesion control in case of large variation of adhesion force coefficient, this paper proposes a new anti-slip readhesion control based on first order disturbance observer and new torque function. In the numerical simulation results in this paper, the proposed anti-slip readhesion control well regulates the driving wheel torque of electric motor coach stably.

The application of the direct drive system is increasing in the field of robot and factory automation because of controllability with high accuracy. However, it requires the motor high torque at low speed.<br>Although the vernier motor, presented by C. H. Lee in 1963, could produce the reluctance torque in low speed, it involved many problems to be solved. In this paper, the authors have studied the reluctance torque of vernier motor using the finite element field analysis. As the increase of rotor slot number is effective to produce high torque, in our model there are not only winding slots but also small slots on the stator teeth surfaces and the rotor slots are provided in the periphery of the core more than the total number of stator slots by the pole number. The calculated torques have agreed very well with the experimental results.<br>A prominent feature of the control scheme is to control the armature current phase based on the detected rotor slot position, so there is no problem such as pull-in or pull-out in the vernier motor of C. H. Lee. And then the instantaneous torque is controlled by the amplitude of armature current. The experimental results on both the speed control and the position control were also shown in the paper.

Differential Evolution(DE) is one of the evolutionary algorithms, and has shown excellent ability for solving global optimization problems over continuous spaces. DE has a few control parameters that have to be set by users. The ability of DE is depending on these control parameters, and, in many cases, trial-and-error process are required for finding suitable parameters. This paper proposes a method for tuning the DE control parameters automatically. The proposed method tunes control parameters within DE search process. By using this method, trial-and-error processes for finding appropriate control parameters are not required. To evaluate the performance, the proposed method was applied to 9 benchmark function optimization problems. The results indicate that the proposed method shows 100% feasibility to solving the optimization problems without outstanding increase of generations required for finding the optimum solutions.

Omitting one phase's current limiting arcing horns on three-phase distribution lines has been applied since 1990's and contributes the costdown for lightning protective countermeasures. Moreover, in order to promote the costdown for the lightning protective countermeasures on single-phase distribution lines, we have investigated the methods omitting one phase's current limiting arcing horns on single-phase distribution lines.<br>When the single-phase distribution line omitting one phase's current limiting arcing horns branches or extends from three-phase distribution line omitting middle phase's current limiting arcing horns, there are possibilities that short circuits are generated between the single-phase distribution line and the three-phase distribution line by a direct lightning stroke.<br>In order to preventing the short circuits outage, we have clarified the conditions that sparkovers generated at some poles and that short circuits continued experimentally and analytically. Based on these conditions, we proposed some effective countermeasures for preventing the short circuits outage on single-phase distribution line omitting one phase's current limiting arcing horns.

A novel multi modular GTO current source converter structure is presented to application to superconducting magnetic energy storage system. N_??_N converters are arranged in a array form. The GTO current source converter array with appropriate arrangement of modulation and carrier signals can output large power with high quality line current waveforms. With using of only <i>N</i> transformers, 6N<sup>2</sup> pulse number converter performance is obtained. Only low switching of GTO is required since PWM is primarily used as a method to control flow of power instead of reducing harmonics. It is compared with conventional direct paralleled multi modular converter structure. The results of simulation are presented in this paper.
