We analyze user behavior on SoundCloud.com, a web-based music distribution site, using the methodology of computer-mediated discourse analysis. The broad goal is to infer patterns of use that can inform the development of methods to facilitate communication among online users. In order to achieve this goal, we analyze SoundCloud comments and identify site design features that facilitate users' actions, using speech act analysis and dynamic topic analysis. We address two research questions: What are the most common communicative acts on the music distribution site, and which commenting function of the site contributes most to facilitating interactive commenting? Results of speech act analysis show that 56% of comments are REACT which means site users mostly react to the song in short, simple comments. Additionally the users tend to be more interactive when using the timed comment function, which appear below the song waveform, provided by the site. Dynamic topic analysis reveals that the structure of regular comments, made on the song as a whole, shows prompt focused such as blog comment, and structure of timed comments shows sequential threads are more interactive as is the case in chatting. These findings indicate that comments which focus on particular part of the song have possibility to facilitate user's interactive comments.

The purpose of this study is to determine the true threshold of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) for subsequent ischemic stroke without extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) bypass surgery in patients with hemodynamic ischemia due to symptomatic major cerebral arterial occlusive diseases. Patients were categorized based on rest CBF and CVR into four subgroups as follows: Group A, 80% < CBF < 90% and CVR < 10%; Group B, CBF < 80% and 10% < CVR < 20%; Group C, 80% < CBF < 90% and 10% < CVR < 20%; and Group D, CBF < 90% and 20% < CVR < 30%. Patients were followed up for 2 years under best medical treatment by the stroke neurologists. Primary and secondary end points were defined as all adverse events and ipsilateral stroke recurrence respectively. A total of 132 patients were enrolled. All adverse events were observed in 9 patients (3.5%/year) and ipsilateral stroke recurrence was observed only in 2 patients (0.8%/year). There was no significant difference among the four subgroups in terms of the rate of both primary and secondary end points. Compared with the medical arm of the Japanese EC-IC bypass trial (JET) study including patients with CBF < 80% and CVR < 10% as a historical control, the incidence of ipsilateral stroke recurrence was significantly lower in the present study. Patients with symptomatic major cerebral arterial occlusive diseases and mild hemodynamic compromise have a good prognosis under medical treatment. EC-IC bypass surgery is unlikely to benefit patients with CBF > 80% or CVR > 10%.

We investigate a long-run impact of a compound disaster in northern Taiwan by describing a recovery process from the disaster with a dynamic computable general equilibrium model. After simulating losses of capital and labor in combination with a nuclear power shutdown, we conduct policy experiments that are aimed at recovery of Taiwan’s major industries by subsidizing their output or capital use. We found that the semiconductor industry could recover but need a huge amount of subsidies while the electronic equipment sector could almost recover even without subsidies. Capital-use subsidies would cost less than output subsidies. When we use two-year longer duration for a recovery program of semiconductors, we could save the subsidy costs by 7–10%.

Objectives: The Temporo-Mandibular Disorders (TMD) are a set of dysfunctional patterns concerning the temporo-mandibular joints (TMJ) and the masticatory muscles; its main symptom is pain, probably caused by inflammatory changes in the synovial membrane, alterations in the bone marrow of the mandibular condyle and impingement and compression. The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate the effectiveness in the TMD pain reduction of a new laser device recently proposed by the commerce that, due to its reduced dimensions and to be a class I laser according the ANSI classification, may be used at home by the patient himself.Materials and methods: Twenty-four patients with TMD were randomly selected: the inclusion criteria for the sample was the diagnosis of mono- or bi-lateral TMD, with acute pain restricted to the joint area, associated with the absence of any muscle tenderness during palpation. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups:Group 1 (12 patients): patients receiving real LLLT (experimental group).Group 2 (12 patients): patients receiving inactive laser (placebo group).The treatment was performed once a day for two weeks with an 808 nm diode laser by the patient himself with irradiation of the cutaneous zone corresponding to the TMJ for 15 minutes each side. Each patient was instructed to express its pain in a visual analogue scale (VAS) making a perpendicular line between the two extremes representing the felt pain level. Statistical analysis was realized with GraphPad Instat Software, where P<0.05 was considered significant and P<0.01 very significant.Results: The patient’s pain evaluation was expressed in the two study groups before the treatment, 1 week and two weeks after the treatment. The differences between the two groups result extremely significant with p<0.0001 for the comparison of VAS value after 1 and 2 weeks.Conclusions: This study, even if it may be considered such a pilot study, investigated a new way to control the pain in the temporo-mandibular diseases by an at home self administered laser device. Results are encouraging, but they will have to be confirmed by greater studies.

Plants have the capability to purify various atmospheric chemicals. There are, however, few studies on the plant purification-characteristics. In this paper, the purification capability of pothos plant for formaldehyde was investigated. Formaldehyde is one of the typical chemical substances, which cause a sick-building syndrome. The purification capability (Pa) was introduced using a tin oxide gas sensor-output. The experiment was conducted for six different soils. It is recognized that the purification capabilities considerably differ according to the kinds of soils. Namely, the soils, which are mixed with the porous materials such as ceramics, tend to have the high capability. It became obvious that room temperature had also the effects on the purification capability. The optimum temperature, at which the plant had the high capability, was about 22°C.

Aim of this study was to develop a novel fluorapatite-forming calcium phosphate cement (FA-CPC) with tricalcium silicate (TCS) for endodontic applications and to examine its in vitro and in vivo characteristics. The FA-CPC powder consisted of 62.8% CaHPO4, 30.8% CaCO3, and 6.4% NaF. One part of TCS was combined with 9 parts of FA-CPC powder (FA-CPC with TCS). A 1.5 M phosphate solution was used as cement liquid. Setting time (ST), diametral tensile strength (DTS), phase composition by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and cement alkalinity were analyzed. Cement biocompatibility was assessed using rat subcutaneous model. Cement ST was 10.3±0.6 min and DTS was 3.89±0.76 MPa. XRD patterns showed that highly crystalline apatitic material was the only significant phase present and pH value was approximate 11.0. FA-CPC with TCS demonstrated similar biocompatibility as that of mineral trioxide aggregate control. These results suggest that FA-CPC with TCS may be useful for endodontic applications.

多段論理回路の簡単化手法のうち,多段回路の構造から生じたドントケア条件を考慮して簡単化を行なうBoolean minimizerと呼ばれるものがいくつか提案されている[1],[2],[3].このうち,文献[1] の手法は2段論理式簡単化プログラムESPRESSO-II[4]を利用したもので,どのような回路変換を行なうかというヒューリスティックに関しては場当たり的な変換を行なう他の手法に比べて効率的であるが,通常,多段論理回路の内部のドントケアを表現する2段論理式が巨大なものになってしまい,ドントケアそのものやその否定を扱うことが非常に困難になるという問題がある。そこで,本稿では2分決定グラフ(Binary Decision Diagram)[5]を用いて許容関数を表現しつつ,ESPRESSO-IIと同様のヒューリスティックを用いた2段論理式簡単化手法についての提案を行なう。

In order to discuss possible differences in brain anatomy between Neanderthals and early modern humans, the original antemortem appearance of fossil crania that enclosed the brain must somehow be correctly restored, as soft tissues such as the brain are generally not fossilized. However, crania are typically fractured, fragmented, and deformed due to compaction and diagenesis. Furthermore, recovery of all component fragments of fossil crania is rare. Restoration of the brain morphology of fossil crania therefore necessitates correct assembly of the available fragments, eliminating distortions, and compensating for missing parts as a first step. This paper reviews the current status of computerized reconstruction methods, then provides an overview and future directions toward digital reconstruction of fossil crania and the associated brain morphology.
