現代ベトナムの上座仏教における尼僧たちの存在形態について研究をした。ベトナムの上座仏教は、1939年にカンボジアで修行したベトナムの僧侶によってベトナムの南部にあるサイゴン市(現在ホー・チ・ミン市)に伝えられた。今回参考文献に基づき、現地の諸寺院を訪れ、聞き取り調査を実施し、次のことを明らかにした。現在ベトナムの上座仏教の活動地域は、中部のフェ市と南部のホー・チ・ミン市とその周辺に限られ、上座仏教の尼僧たちの存在もこの二つの地域に見られる。今回の調査で尼僧の人数が150人であることは明白に判った。フェ市における上座仏教の尼僧たち(8人)の修行道場は一箇所に集中し、在家信者として僧侶たちと一緒に修行をしているので、尼僧という名称は認められなかったようであり、「女修」と呼ばれるようになった。生活の面については、尼僧たちは殆ど自給自足であり、その宗派の信者からの布施は滅多にないようである。こうして生活の面で大変厳しい状態なので、初心者の弟子を受け入れることもできなくなるのは当然のことである。しかも、フェ市における上座仏教の尼僧たちは、大乗仏教の尼僧たちとの交流を全く進めていないので完全に孤立の状態にある。修行の面に関しては、尼僧たちは八戒しか伝授されていないので、女性の修行者の形態とみなされている。彼女たちは日常2回の坐禅と読経に専念するが、毎月2回八戒を再び伝授されることを僧侶の教団に求める。フェ市の尼僧と違って南部における上座仏教の尼僧たち(142人)は、特殊な形態を持って更に発展して盛んな様相を見せる。この地方の尼僧たちは5箇寺に集まって修行して入るが、特に福山禅院と宝隆寺における尼僧の場合は、フェ市の尼僧と同じように自給自足であるが、独特の修行法を持っている。修行の専門道場としての福山禅院では、尼僧たちは毎日殆どの時間を坐禅と経行で過ごすので、読経の時間は日課に見られない。そして彼女たちが毎日八戒の伝授を僧侶たちに懇請することは、フェ市の尼僧と違うところである。今回の調査で一番驚くことは、この禅院の修行に参加しているのは上座仏教の尼僧ばかりではなく、ベトナム大乗や「乞士派」の尼僧の姿が見かけられたことである。この三つの宗派の尼僧が一緒に修行することは、ベトナムでは絶対に考えられなかったことであり、戒律上や生活の面や宗教の違う点などというような様々な問題を乗り越えて一つの場所で生活しながら修行することは有り得なかった。このような交流は大変素晴らしいと実感した。宝隆寺における尼僧たちは、学習と修行との両面に重視している。特に注目すべきことは、その住職が尼僧たちに比丘尼の戒律を受戒させたい意向を持っていることである。実際にタイとスリランカに派遣されて受戒をした尼僧はいた。タイ・スリランカ・ミャンマーなどのような上座仏教の国々では、比丘尼の形を公的に認められていないので、これは深刻な問題になっている。尼僧の教団が発展できるか、社会的に活動ができるか、大乗仏教の尼僧教団と交流ができるか、比丘尼の戒律を受戒させることができるかどうかという諸問題には、ベトナム上座仏教の教団に大きな責任がある。

Septal reduction therapy (SRT) -i.e. septal myectomy and alcohol septal ablation-has been performed to treat medically refractory hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) for decades. However, it is largely unknown whether SRT prevents HCM-related cardiovascular events or death. The objective was to examine the effects of SRT on acute cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in HCM. We performed a propensity score (PS) -matched study using databases that capture all hospitalizations and outpatient visits in New York state. We identified patients with HCM who underwent SRT between 2007 and 2014 (i.e. the SRT group) and those who had never had SRT but had at least one hospitalization for HCM during the same period (i.e. the control group). We performed PS matching at a 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome was a composite of acute cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality during 0-180 days and 181-360 days. The secondary outcome was 180- and 360-day all-cause mortality. We included 846 patients with HCM (423 PS-matched pairs). Patients who underwent SRT had a lower risk of the primary outcome event (0-180 days: odds ratio [OR], 0.54; 95% confidence intervals (CI), 0.37-0.80; P = 0.002 and 181-360 days: OR, 0.33; 95% CI, 0.22-0.51; P < 0.0001). Furthermore, the risk of all-cause mortality was lower at 180 days (OR, 0.37; 95% CI, 0.22-0.63; P = 0.0003) and 360 days post-SRT (OR, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.20-0.51; P < 0.0001). In conclusion, our PS-matched study using population-based datasets demonstrated that SRT was associated with a reduced risk of a composite of acute cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in HCM during the first post-SRT year.

We propose a lateral spin-blockade device that uses the interband Rashba effect in a symmetric double quantum well (QW), where the Rashba effect in the conventional sense vanishes because of its inversion symmetry. The interband Rashba effect manifests itself in the off-diagonal term (represented by the parameter eta) in the QW space using the bonding and antibonding basis [Esmerindo Bernardes, John Schliemann, Minchul Lee, J. Carlos Egues, and Daniel Loss, Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 076603 (2007)]. In such a system, spin selection is possible by tuning the device length, gate electric field and in-plane magnetic field. We particularly show illustrative mechanisms using a one-dimensional model with k = (k(F), 0), where the selected spin can be blocked completely in the presence of the in-plane magnetic field. While the inclusion of the finite k(y) and/or the gate electric field deteriorates the spin polarization P, finite values remain for P (P&gt;11%). Our proposal can also be regarded as an effective way of enhancing a variation of the Rashba-Edelstein effect, the generation of bulk spin polarization by electric current, based on semiconductor band engineering technology.

We present a new method for imaging surface phonon focusing and dispersion at frequencies up to 1 GHz that makes use of ultrafast optical excitation and detection. Animations of coherent surface phonon wave packets emanating from a point source on isotropic and anisotropic solids are obtained with micron lateral resolution. We resolve rounded-square shaped wave fronts on the (100) plane of LiF and discover isolated pockets of pseudosurface wave propagation with exceptionally high group velocity in the (001) plane of TeO2. Surface phonon refraction and concentration in a minute gold pyramid is also revealed.

本研究は,亜熱帯地域に属する南米のパラグアイ国における,放牧牛の生産性と繁殖成績を改善するために,放牧牛のミネラル栄養に及ぼす種々の環境要因の影響を明らかにしたものである。得られた成果は,以下のとおりである。1. 東部のブエナビスタ牧場及びバレリート牧場の自然草地の草のP,Na,Zn及びCu濃度が非常に低かったので,草からのそれらの摂取量は放牧牛に対しては不足していることが推察された。また,草のFe及びMn含量の過剰によるミネラル不均衡もあると思われた。2. ブエナビスタ牧場及びバレリート牧場の自然草地の草のP,Na,Zn及びCu濃度に季節変化がみられなかったので,放牧牛は年間を通してそれらの不足していることが推察された。3. 東部の自然草地における草のP,Na,K,Zn及びCu濃度が低い値を示したことは,主に土壌中のそれらの含量が低いことによると考えられた。しかし,草のFe及びMn濃度の過剰は,土壌中のそれらの含量よりも,むしろ他の要因によると思われた。4. 一牧場,あるいは小地域での土壌分析から,牛のミネラル栄養の状態を診断することは困難であるが,草の分析は重要と考えられた。人工草地の草は,自然草地の草と比較するとミネラルを多量に含有し,また,東部の自然草地内では,樹木のある草地の草が樹木のない草地の草よりもミネラルに富んでいることが示唆された。5. チャコ地方の草のミネラル含量とミネラルバランスは放牧牛に対してほぼ適切なものであったが,Cuはやや不足していた。6. 水は少量のミネラルを含有していた。放牧牛は草から大部分のミネラルを摂取していたが,Zn及びCuの摂取では土壌も一部分は重要な役割を果たしていた。濃厚飼料及び他の飼料のミネラル濃度は非常に異なっていた。7. 東部のコルデルリータ牧場の自然草地の草では,P,Na,Zn及びCuが不足し,またFe及びMnが過剰であった。血清分析から判断すると,牛はややCu欠乏の状態にあると思われた。8. 牛の血清のCa,P及びMg濃度はほぼ適正な値を示したが,Cu濃度は低い値であった。パラグアイにおいては,放牧牛はややミネラル欠之の状態にあり,放牧牛のP及びCu欠之が重要な問題であることが示唆された。

トリフルオ撰エテンやヘキサフルオロブロペンのような入手の容易なモノマーから,α-フルオロ-β-ケトエステルおよびジエステルなどの含フッ素ビルデイングブロックを容易に合成する方法を見いだした,これらのビルディングブロックを用いて,たとえばピラゾール類,クマリン類,ピリミジン類およびベンゾジアゼピン類など種々のモノフルオロ複素環化合物を合成した。

Hormones such as estradiol have an effect on human connective tissue, making women more susceptible to knee injuries. Indeed, women have a greater risk for non-contact injuries of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) compared to men when participating in the same sports. The purpose of the present study was to examine the difference in ACL laxity after an eccentric exercise in the lower limbs in young healthy women between oral contraceptive pill (OCP) users and non-OCP users to see the effect of OCP on ACL laxity. Forty young healthy women participated in the experiments (25 with normal menstrual cycle and 15 with taking OCP). ACL laxity and a visual analog pain scale were measured before and after a bout of squat. OCP users had more pain than non-OCP users after heavy exercise (p < 0.001). Both groups showed a significant reduction in ACL laxity on the 2nd day after exercise (p < 0.05). While ACL laxity was always less in the OCP group, when expressed as a percent change from baseline, the ACL laxity change was similar in both groups (p > 0.05). We found that there was no statistically significant difference in ACL laxity recovery over time in response to the delayed onset muscle soreness after a bout of squat between two groups. However, health professionals working with young female adults should recognize that OCP users with less ACL laxity are at higher risk for having knee injuries because of ACL stiffness when doing exercise.

The GEOTRACES Intermediate Data Product 2017 (IDP2017) is the second publicly available data product of the international GEOTRACES programme, and contains data measured and quality controlled before the end of 2016. The IDP2017 includes data from the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, Southern and Indian oceans, with about twice the data volume of the previous IDP2014. For the first time, the IDP2017 contains data for a large suite of biogeochemical parameters as well as aerosol and rain data characterising atmospheric trace element and isotope (TEI) sources. The TEI data in the IDP2017 are quality controlled by careful assessment of intercalibration results and multi-laboratory data comparisons at crossover stations. The IDP2017 consists of two parts: (1) a compilation of digital data for more than 450 TEIs as well as standard hydrographic parameters, and (2) the eGEOTRACES Electronic Atlas providing an on-line atlas that includes more than 590 section plots and 130 animated 3D scenes. The digital data are provided in several formats, including ASCII, Excel spreadsheet, netCDF, and Ocean Data View collection. Users can download the full data packages or make their own custom selections with a new on-line data extraction service. In addition to the actual data values, the IDP2017 also contains data quality flags and 1-σ data error values where available. Quality flags and error values are useful for data filtering and for statistical analysis. Metadata about data originators, analytical methods and original publications related to the data are linked in an easily accessible way. The eGEOTRACES Electronic Atlas is the visual representation of the IDP2017 as section plots and rotating 3D scenes. The basin-wide 3D scenes combine data from many cruises and provide quick overviews of large-scale tracer distributions. These 3D scenes provide geographical and bathymetric context that is crucial for the interpretation and assessment of tracer plumes near ocean margins or along ridges. The IDP2017 is the result of a truly international effort involving 326 researchers from 25 countries. This publication provides the critical reference for unpublished data, as well as for studies that make use of a large cross-section of data from the IDP2017. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the CYP3A5*3 allele on the pharmacokinetics of tacrolimus and amlodipine, and drug-drug interactions between them in healthy subjects. Pharmacokinetic drug interactions between tacrolimus and amlodipine were evaluated in a randomized, 3-period, 6-sequence crossover study in healthy Chinese volunteers according to CYP3A5 genotype. A single-dose and multiple-dose study were designed. A 96-h pharmacokinetic study followed either tacrolimus or amlodipine dose, and the washout periods between the study phases were 14 days. In the single-dose study, apparent oral clearance (CL/F) of tacrolimus (5 mg) in CYP3A5 expressers was 3.8-fold (p = 0.008) higher than that in CYP3A5 non-expressers. Amlodipine decreased mean tacrolimus CL/F in CYP3A5 expressers by 2.2-fold (p = 0.005), while it had no effect on that in CYP3A5 non-expressers. The CL/F of amlodipine in CYP3A5 non-expressers was 2.0-fold (p = 0.001) higher than that in CYP3A5 expressers. Tacrolimus increased mean amlodipine CL/F in CYP3A5 expressers by 1.4-fold (p = 0.016) while it had no effect on that in CYP3A5 non-expressers. Tacrolimus slightly reduced the AUC0–∞ of amlodipine in both CYP3A5 expressers and non-expressers. Dose adjustment of tacrolimus should be considered according to CYP3A5*3 genetic polymorphism when tacrolimus is coadministered with amlodipine.
