「玉梓の」は「使」及び「妹」の枕詞として用ゐられ,時として「人」や「言(こと)」の上にも現はれる。併し「使」や「妹」にかかる理由に就いてはまだ定説がないし,「人」や「言」と接する場合は枕詞ではなくて,「使」の代語であると見るのが現状である。よつて「玉梓」の語義を探り,「使」や「妹」にかかる理由を考へ,更に「人」や「言」との關係に就いても觸れてみたいと思ふ。

The dynamics of the stably stratified layer at the top of the core, which we call the H-layer or the hidden ocean of the core (HOC), is considered. It is shown that global axisymmetric eigenoscillations of the H-layer are possible that are similar to MAC-waves. These oscillations have periods of the order of a few decades (∼65 yr) if N ∼ 2Ω where N is the Brunt-Väisälä frequency of the H-layer and Ω is the frequency of the Earth's rotation. H-layer oscillations can be excited by an instability mechanism that resembles baroclinic (sloping) instability, and they in turn can excite torsional oscillations (TO) in the bulk of the core. The joint action of these two oscillations provide a mechanism for the generation of the decade geomagnetic secular variations, and the associated variations in the length of day. Rough estimates of the physical parameters of the H-layer are obtained by comparison of the HOC-oscillation theory with observations. The existence of the H-layer has significant consequences for the Earth's dynamo, that are briefly discussed.

ヘルスツーリズムとは、医科学的な根拠に基づく健康回復・維持・増進につながる観光である。本研究では、思春期の女性を対象としたヘルスツーリズムを企画し、その中で望ましい食生活を実践できるよう食育を行った。ツアー前に実施した食事調査の結果、脂質の摂取量が目標値である総エネルギーに占める割合30%未満を超えていた。食品群別摂取量では、野菜の摂取量が160gと目標値である350gに達していなかった。また菓子類の摂取量が過剰であった。そこで食事バランスや野菜摂取の重要性を伝える講義を行い、バランスのよい食事をツアーで提供したところ、一食で235gの野菜を使用した料理にもかかわらず、71%の参加者が「野菜の量は気にならず食べることができた」と回答した。ツアー後に行った食事調査の結果、脂質の摂取量は有意に低下し目標値に近づいた。また菓子類の摂取量が少なくなったことから、ヘルスツーリズムでの食育は、食生活改善のための意識を高め、望ましい食生活への実践につながったと思われる。

Objectives: To determine if force differences exist between isometric pulling positions corresponding to key positions of the deadlift. Design: Cross-sectional evaluation of isometric strength Methods: 14 powerlifters performed isometric pulls on a force plate at 3 key positions related to the deadlift (at the floor, just above the patella, and 5-6 cm short of lockout) and in the mid thigh pull position (MTP). A 1x4 repeated measures ANOVA was used to ascertain differences between the various pulling positions tested. Bonferroni-adjusted paired samples t-tests were used post-hoc. Results: Forces generated at each bar height were significantly different (F(3,39) = 51.058, p<0.05, η2=0.80). Paired samples t-tests showed significant differences between positions, revealing a trend of greater force generation at increasing heights for positions corresponding to the deadlift. Force generated in the mid thigh pull position was significantly higher than any other position. Conclusion: In positions corresponding to the deadlift, force generation increases at higher bar heights.

Second derivative of photoplethysmogram (SDPTG) or acceleration plethysmogram (APG) is the second derivative wave of the photoplethysmogram. SDPTG has been developed to allow more accurate recognition of the inflection points on the original plethysmographic wave, ie, anacrotic or dicrotic notches. It has been recognized as the independent examination tool for vascular properties.SDPTG includes 4 systolic waves and 1 diastolic wave, namely a-wave (early systolic positive wave), b-wave (early systolic negative wave), c-wave (late systolic reincreasing wave), d-wave (late systolic redecreasing wave) and e-wave (early diastolic positive wave).The ratio of the height of the each wave to that of the a-wave (b/a, c/a, d/a and e/a) are usually used for wave analyses.We previously reported characteristic age related wave changes of SDPTG in 600 subjects (each 50 men and 50 women in each decade from the 3rd to the 8th) in our health assessment center (Hypertension, 1998; 32: 365-370.).SDPTG-AI increased with augmentation index of original photoplethysmogram which is known to increase with increasing age, and is defined as the ratio of the amplitude of the late systolic component to that of the early systolic component of the original plethysmogram.The b/a increased with age and c/a, d/a and e/a decreased with age. Thus b-c-d-e/a was taken as the aging index of SDPTG (SDPTG aging index: SDPTGAI) which increased with age. SDPTG (Y) increased with age (X) as Y=0.023X-1.515, r=0.80, p<0.001).Similar distribution of vascular ages were seen in different districts group, including women in Toba city in Mie prefecture, subjects in shinjuku in Tokyo and patients in Broussias Hospital in Paris.SDPTGAI increased with vascular stiffness represented by inceased b/a and increasing reflection wave represented by decreasing d/a. Vascular age estimated by SDPTG=43.5SDPTGAI+65.9.SDPTGAI and vascular age were significantly higher in patients with a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia than in subjects without any disease (p<0.01).The possibility of arteriosclerotic disease can be considered when vascular age is higher than actual age. Though cut-off value of the difference of vascular and actual ages are under examination, the tentative cut-off value is a difference of 15-20 years, which will provide us useful information for screening of arteriosclerotic diseases.A new type of apparatus (Fukuda FCP series) provides full automated detection of each indices and prints out within 30 seconds, which will be widely used for noninvasive evaluation of arteriosclerosis through vascular age.

宇宙航空研究開発機構では,将来のブレイクスルーとしての超音速旅客機実現を目指し2005年10月に飛行実験に成功した小型超音速実験機(NEXST-1)に引き続き,新たな飛行実験プロジェクトとして,2006年度より「静粛超音速研究機」(S3TD:Silent SuperSonic Technology Demonstrator)の予備設計に着手し,2008年~2009年度に基本設計を実施した.S3TDは,完全自律離着陸及び超音速飛行可能な無人機で,ソニックブーム低減技術を飛行実証することを目的としたものである.本報告書では,超音速飛行実験計画及び飛行実験システム(研究機システム及び実験場システム)の設計検討について,JAXAが独自に検討した成果及びJAXAとプライムメーカの契約に基づき実施された成果をまとめる.

To overcome the limitation of low network density and sparse distribution of meteorological stations, spatial interpolation is being performed for estimating meteorological variables that are not geographically covered by existing observation network. While there are several readily available spatial interpolation techniques, it is still difficult to determine which one best estimates actual observation. Considering the stimulus for disaster risk reduction, hydrological, agricultural, and other applications of interpolated data, this study compared six interpolation techniques (Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW), Completely Regularized Spline (CRS), Tension Spline (TS), Ordinary Kriging (OK), Universal Kriging (UK), and ANUSPLIN) that have been recommended in tropical maritime region. Validation results comparing historical monthly and interpolated rainfall data from 1981-2010 in 65 stations in the Philippines show that OK has the best performance among the aforementioned techniques followed by ANUSPLIN and TS. Ultimately, this study is a contribution to the existing inadequate literatures that have documented and evaluated interpolation techniques that can be used in archipelagic regions with prominent climate variability.

Recently, an isomeric mixture of herbal anti-inflammatory naphthoquinones shikonin and alkannin, and their derivatives, have been found to impair cellular responses involving nitric oxide (NO) and NO synthesis, like the acetylcholine-induced relaxation response of rat thoracic aorta and NO release from murine RAW 264.7 macrophages. However, the mechanisms of such effects, including whether NO synthase (NOS) activity is affected, remained unclear. We herein investigate possible targets of shikonin in these NOS-related events. Shikonin by itself dose-dependently inhibited the rat thoracic aorta relaxation in response to acetylcholine (pD′2 value: 6.29). Its optical enantiomer, alkannin, was equally inhibitory in the aorta relaxation–response assay. In RAW 264.7 cells, shikonin inhibited the lipopolysaccharide-induced NO production by 82% at 1 μM. A cell-free assay to verify direct effects on NOS activity showed that shikonin inhibits all isoforms of NOS (IC50s, 4 – 7 μM), suggesting NOS as an inhibition target in both the events. Further possible targets of shikonin that might be involved in the inhibitions of the acetylcholine-induced aorta relaxation response and the NO generation by RAW 264.7 cells are also discussed. It is shown for the first time that shikonin inhibits NOS activity.

本研究の目的は、ASEAN統合が大メコン圏諸国における基礎教育に与えたインパクトを解明することである。カンボジアではASEAN学習が広がり始めているが表面的である。ラオスではASEAN学習を取り入れる動きは少ない。タイではASEAN学習の導入に最も積極的に取り組まれている。ベトナムでは基礎教育への影響は少ない。中国雲南省ではASEANの発展には関心が高いが、基礎教育レベルでの協力・交流は進んでいない。ミャンマーでは、民主化後のカリキュラム改革が進行中であるが統合のインパクトは確認出来ない。また、全体的に見て児童生徒の交流は増えていないのが実態である。

Sustainability is a major challenge in any plant factory, particularly those involving precision agriculture. In this study, an adaptive fertigation system in a three-tier nutrient film technique aquaponic system was developed using a non-destructive vision-based lettuce phenotype (VIPHLET) model integrated with an 18-rule Mamdani fuzzy inference system for nutrient valve control. Four lettuce phenes, that is, fresh weight, chlorophylls a and b, and vitamin C concentrations as outputted by the genetic programming-based VIPHLET model were optimized for each growth stage by injecting NPK nutrients into the mixing tank, as determined based on leaf canopy signatures. This novel adaptive fertigation system resulted in higher nutrient use efficiency (99.678%) and lower chemical waste emission (14.108 mg L-1) than that by manual fertigation (92.468%, 178.88 mg L-1). Overall, it can improve agricultural malpractices in relation to sustainable agriculture.

During prolonged exercise or work in the heat, human thermal homeostasis is first challenged, and eventually lost, as one moves from a compensable state through to uncompensable heat stress. During the first week of such exposure, work and athletic performance is most affected, and the threat of heat illness is greatest. However, given adequate time, the body will undergo a three-phase adaptation to better tolerate the heat. In this review, the principles and practices of the six primary methods by which such heat adaptation may be achieved are evaluated. One technique involves repeated exposure to both heat and exercise, and is designed to elevate and maintain a target body temperature, by varying the intensity of the work rate during the acclimation period: the controlled-hyperthermia (isothermal) technique. It is recommended that this method provides the most dependable, and least hazardous, means of adapting workers and athletes for heat stress.

写真コミュニケーションを考察するための基礎資料として,カメラと写真の最近までの変化を整理した。戦後の日本において,カメラの世帯普及はほぼ順調に進み,1980年代には80%に達した。自動露出や自動焦点,コンパクト化などにより,撮影者の層が拡大した。使い捨てカメラや現像・焼付けの低価格化などにより,カメラの携帯と撮影の日常化が進んだ。最近では,カメラはデジタル・カメラに移行しつつある。カメラの発展につれて,撮影する/される意識も変化してきた。写真は鑑賞するより撮るもの,撮られる場合はより良く,写真は自分(達)のために,などである。写真は保存するというだけでなく消費するという側面も出てきている。このような新しい写真との関わり方は,若い女性を中心に表れている。携帯電話にカメラが付いたことで,更に写真行動は変化していくものと考えられる。

An experimental proof-of-principle of an enhanced Z3DT (thermoelectric figure of merit) is demonstrated using (001) oriented Si/Ge superlattices. The highest value of the experimental Z3DT at 300 K for a (001) oriented Si(20 Å)/Ge(20 Å) superlattice is 0.1 using κ = 5 Wm−1 K−1, for the in-plane thermal conductivity, which is a factor of seven enhancement relative to the estimated value of Z3DT = 0.014 for bulk Si. The good agreement between experiment and theory validates our modeling approach (denoted as “carrier pocket engineering”) to design superlattices with enhanced values of Z3DT. Proposals are made to enhance the experimental values of Z3DT for Si/Ge superlattices even further. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
