[Purpose] The present study aimed to determine the changes in physical and balance performance following exercise-induced muscle damage using a sport-specific protocol. [Subjects and Methods] Fifteen collegiate soccer players were asked to perform a sport-specific sprint protocol to induce muscle damage. The markers of muscle damage (soreness, range of motion, limb girth, muscle strength, creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase), physical performance (speed, agility and power) and balance (static and dynamic balance) were assessed at baseline and 24, 48 and 72 hours following the sprint protocol. [Results] All variables, including the markers of muscle damage, physical performance and balance showed a significant difference when assessed at the 4 time points. [Conclusion] The study demonstrated that both the physical and balance performance were affected following repeated sprint protocol in soccer players. It is recommended the balance performance of an athlete be continually assessed following exercise-induced muscle damage so as to determine the appropriate return to sport decision thereby, minimizing the risk of further injury.

In product recovery the disassembly process has an important role since it allows for separation and retrieval of desired parts and materials. End-of-life (EOL) products with missing and/or nonfunctional components increase the uncertainty associated with disassembly yield. Sensor-embedded products (SEPs) eliminate a majority of uncertainties involved in EOL management by providing life-cycle information of products. This information includes the content of each product and component conditions, and enables the estimation of remaining useful life of the components. Once the data on the products are captured, it is possible to make optimal EOL decisions without any preliminary disassembly or inspection operations. This paper presents an Advanced Remanufacture-To-Order, Disassembly-To-Order and Refurbishment-To-Order (ARTODTORTO) model with disassembly precedence relationships among components of an air conditioner (AC). It also inspects and analyzes the impact of using smart sensors in End-of-Life products (EOLPs) on system performance. Various experimental design studies are conducted based on orthogonal arrays (OAs). The customers' demands may be satisfied either by purchasing new components, reassembling components from the returned used products, refurbishing products, or remanufacturing used products based on customers' needs. Discrete event simulation models are used to calculate various performance measures under different experimental conditions.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of percutaneous transplanted autologous neurogenically-induced bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (NIBM-MSCs) in paraplegic dogs without deep pain perception (DPP) secondary to external spinal trauma. Thirteen client owned dogs that had failed in improvement neurologically at least 42 days after conservative management, decompression and decompression-stabilization were included in the study. Each dog received two doses of autologous 5.0 × 106 NIBM-MSCs suspension, which were positive to 2',3′-Cyclic-nucleotide-3′-phosphodiesterase (CNPase) and Microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP-2), as well as to Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and beta III tubulin. The cells were injected into the spinal cord through the hemilaminectomy or laminectomy defects percutaneously with 21 days interval for 2 times. The results were evaluated using Texas Spinal Cord Injury Scale (TSCIS), somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) and motor evoked potentials (MEP) at the admission time, cell transplantation procedures and during 2, 5, 7 and 12th months after the second cell transplantation. Improvement after cell transplantation in gait, nociception, proprioception, SEP and MEP results was observed in just 2 cases, and only gait score improvement was seen in 6 cases, and no improvement was recorded in 5 cases. All progresses were observed until 2nd month after the second cell transplantation, however, there was no improvement after this period. In conclusion, percutaneous transplantation of autologous NIBM-MSCs is a promising candidate modality for cases with spinal cord injury after spinal trauma and poor prognosis.

L.donovani promastigote 2S-15M株を感染させたBALB/cマウスに対し, 3'-deoxy-inosineは100mg/kg, 1~2回おき5回, 静脈内投与で約63%の治療効果, c-c-inosineは100mg/kg, 1~2日おき5回静脈内投与で約92%の治療効果が見られた。しかし, c-c-inosineは100mg/kgの量では副作用が見られた。T.gambiense trypomastigoteを感染させたddYマウスに対し, 3'-deoxyinosineは200mg/kg, 腹腔内投与, 感染前日からの治療で, 少し治療効果を示したが, 有効と言えるまでには至らなかった。またc-c-inosine 200 mg/kg, 腹腔内投与は無効であった。

Cytopathogenic (cp) bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) strain KS86-1cp was isolated from a cow persistently infected with non-cytopathogenic (ncp) BVDV strain KS86-1ncp after development of mucosal disease by superinfection with cp BVDV strain Nose. cp BVDV strains 799cp and 839cp were also isolated from independent cattle that developed mucosal disease by superinfection with cp BVDV KS86-1cp. In the present study, genetic analysis revealed that the genes of cp BVDV strains 799cp and 839cp were chimeras between the genes of the persisting ncp BVDVs and that of superinfecting KS86-1cp. The genetic recombination that generates 799cp occurred between the identical points in the Npro gene region, whereas genetic recombination that generates 839cp occurred between different points in the Npro gene region. Both 799cp and 839cp were inherited Jiv gene of KS86-1cp strain and envelope protein genes of the persisting viruses. In addition, neutralization test disclosed that antigenicities of 799cp, 839cp, and KS86-1cp were also similar to each persisting virus. These findings indicate that exogenous cp BVDV containing insertion of Jiv gene in the 5 terminal region can induce genetic recombination with the original ncp BVDV at different points in the Npro gene region, and those viruses have high potential to change those antigenicities and pathogenicities by RNA recombination.

Several experiments have recently found room-temperature ferromagnetism in graphite-like carbon based materials. This paper offers a model explaining such ferromagnetism by using an asymmetric nano-graphene. Our first typical model is C48H24 graphene molecule, which has three dihydrogenated (-CH2) zigzag edges. There are several multiple spin states competing for stable minimum energy in the same atomic topology. Both molecular orbital and density function theory methods indicate that the quartet state (S=3/2) is more stable than that of doublet (S=1/2), which means that larger saturation magnetization will be achieved. We also enhanced this molecule to an infinite length ribbon having many (-CH2) edges. Similar results were obtained where the highest spin state was more stable than lower spin state. In contrast, a nitrogen substituted (-NH) molecule C45N3H21 demonstrated opposite results. that is, the lowest spin state (S=1/2) is more stable than that of highest one (S=3/2), which arises from the slight change in atom position.

19–22 May 2022 Kyoto, JapanJuvenile Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis, PBF) are still small (about 20cm in fork length, FL) and so weak that even direct touch to the fish can cause fatal damage. Their vulnerability makes it difficult to collect vital data in the natural environment over the past years. We developed an operational instrument for smooth and quick attachment of tags. Fish was kept in the water even during the operation and we shorten the operation time to be 30-60 seconds. Also, the mechanical progress (archival tags downsized dramatically) contributed to the survival rate. The movement patterns of the juvenile PBF was investigated using the archival tags implanted in a fish during August in 2012, 2013 for 75, 62 individuals (18-33cm FL). Twenty one tagged fish were recaptured in total (recovery rate 15.3%), and we downloaded data successfully from eight of thirteen tags recovery. One tagged juvenile, which recorded for 79 days from August to October off Kochi (grew up from 24.5 to 50.0cm in FL). Our data showed that the tagged juvenile moved between coastal areas and offshore into the Kuroshio Current, thus the offshore coverage of their habitat could be restricted to the Kuroshio Current in their nursery areas.

Spaceborne imagers are able to observe the airglow structures with wide field of views regardless of the tropospheric condition that limits the observational time of the ground-based imagers. Concentric wave structures of the O[2] airglow in 762 nm wavelength were observed over North America on 1 June 2013 from the International Space Station. This was the first observation in which the entire image of the structure was captured from space, and its spatial scale size was determined to be 1200 km radius without assumptions. The apparent horizontal wavelength was 80 km, and the amplitude in the intensity was approximately 20% of the background intensity. The propagation velocity of the structure was derived as 125 ± 62 m/s and atmospheric gravity waves were estimated to be generated for 3.5 ± 1.7 h. Concentric structures observed in this event were interpreted to be generated by super cells that caused a tornado in its early phase.

1957年3月に開催された国連の第3回科学委員会に,各国から提出されたSr-90の資料に基いて,1951年のはじめから1955年の秋までの5年間に,地表面に蓄積したSr-90含量の世界的分布を求めた.主なる汚染源としては,第1図から明らかなように,太平洋のビキニ環礁,ソ連のカザツク地方(黒海とバルハシ湖の間)およびアメリカ合衆国のネバダの三点がある.前二者では,水爆実験も行われているので,原爆実験のみを行っているネバダにくらべれば,汚染度は高い.第1図によると,ソ連の実験とネバダの実験では,汚染地域は偏西風にのって西から東にのび,ビキニでは逆に偏東風で西にひろがっている.これは地球上の風系と全く一致しているところである.<BR>1955年秋までに地表面に蓄積したSr-90の総量は地球全体で0.7メガキユリーとなる.北半球には地球全体の80%,その中,東半には,地球全体の約57%が集まっている.緯度による分布をみると,第2図(A)に示すように,北緯20°と50°附近の2ヵ所にピークがみられる.前者はビキニ実験によるものであり,後者はソ連の実験によるものである.第2図(B)には北半球を東半,西半にわけての分布を示した.東半の分布は第2図(A)と同じような形であるが,西半は40°附近に一つのピークがみられる.これはネバダの実験によるものであり,前者に比べれば,その汚染度は低い.

Background:Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC) have been developed as alternatives to warfarin. Until recently, the latter was the standard oral anticoagulant for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). The efficacy and safety of NOAC in Japanese patients with NVAF has been investigated in small trials or subgroups from global randomized control trials (RCT).Methods and Results:We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of RCT, to compare the efficacy and safety of NOAC to those of warfarin in Japanese patients with NVAF. Published research was systematically searched for RCT that compared NOAC to warfarin in Japanese patients with NVAF. Random-effects models were used to pool efficacy and safety data across RCT. Three studies, involving 1,940 patients, were identified. Patients randomized to NOAC had a decreased risk for stroke and systemic thromboembolism (relative risk [RR], 0.45; 95% CI: 0.24–0.85), with a non-significant trend for lower major bleeding (RR, 0.66; 95% CI: 0.29–1.47), intracranial bleeding (RR, 0.46; 95% CI: 0.18–1.16) and gastrointestinal bleeding (RR, 0.52; 95% CI: 0.25–1.08).Conclusions:NOAC are more efficacious than warfarin for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in Japanese patients with NVAF. The present findings offer clinicians a more comprehensive picture of NOAC as a therapeutic option to reduce the risk of stroke in Japanese NVAF patients. (Circ J 2015; 79: 339–345)
