Among linear motor-driven railways, on-board primary linear induction motor-driven railways (steel wheel supported system and levitated system by conducting magnets) have been putting to practical use. This paper refers to electric field strength and magnetic field strength radiated about by these systems. The results are as follows:(1) Directly reached radio noise radiated by the linear motor car has the 1_??_2 MHz frequency region at most.(2) Radio noise by the linear motor car is similar to that by the VVVF inverter controlled car.(3) Magnetic field strength inside the linear motor car is the largest upon the reactor, but is not larger than the ordinary car.(4) In the inspection pit, just under the linear motor magnetic field strength is larger, but decreases to safety level at some distances due to the large attennuation. With the above-mentioned founding, the conclusion are as follows.(i) Peak envelope detection is the refining method in care of the measurement of electric field strength radiated by electric railways.(ii) It is necessary to establish the united standards on the magnetic field strength inside the electric railway cars.(iii) The characteristics of electromagnetic field are of little difference between the linear motor cars and the ordinary motor cars.

The train service in Japan looses rapidity, comfort and robustness against delays in morning peak hours especially, and it has been a serious social problem. On the other hand, the cost to purchase land for a new track is very high. An efficient train operation is proposed in this paper. The proposed train operation has substantially high rapidity and train density identical to a quadruple-track line, with a novel train scheduling based on full usage of a triple-track line. The significance of the proposed train operation on a triple-track line has been verified based on the calculations of waiting time and boarding time of passengers. Consequently train operators can keep the rapidity, moreover, raise track capacity by operating express and local trains like knitting on triple-track lines.

We have already announced the design method of the passive attenuator to prevent a high voltage which induced at a crane hook of a large crane used near a medium wave radio broadcasting antenna. But it is very difficult fundamentally to microminiaturize this passive attenuator.In this time, we developed an active attenuator that possible to miniaturize where a negative resistor or a fourterminal amplifier is included. From the result analyzing this crane equipped with an active attenuator theoretically, we show the design method of the active attenuator. In this paper, first the equivalent circuit of the crane equipped with the active attenuator as a receiving antenna is induced. And we show that the attenuated characteristics of the active attenuator by the model experiment accords with the theoretical attenuated characteristics which employ an equivalent circuit under the same condition.

The authors had proposed the revolving permanent magnet type magnetic wheel called the “magnet wheel”, which have both functions of induction repulsive type magnetic levitation and thrust. In this paper, the relation between magnetic poles and lift force or thrust characteristics is examined to grasp the performance. Five types of magnet wheels are discussed in the experimental study and four more types are used in the theoretical study with the three-dimensional numerical analysis. The following parameters are considered, they are magnetomotive force (mmf) of permanent magnet, thickness of magnet in magnetizing direction and the total volume of magnets, fundamental factor and distortion factor of the space mmf distribution of poles, pole pitch, diameter of magnet wheel, mechanical clearance, thickness and resistivity of conducting plate, etc. The result cleared the following. 1. The lift force per magnet volume is nearly proportional to the fundamental factor of space mmf distribution of pole. The low degree space harmonic mmf is effective to increase lift force. 2. The driving power per lift force is almost independent of configuration of the primary member including pole arrangement and position against the secondary conducting plate respectively, and only depends on the resistance of conducting plate. 3. In both the “partial overlap type” and “tilt type” magnet wheels, many number of poles with the sufficiently large pole pitch is useful. In the tilt type the use with a small tilt angle is desirable.

This paper proposes that wireless time synchronization by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) can be applied to the control of power conversion circuits, and clarifies its validity through experiments. This paper shows that a highly accurate synchronization can be obtained by employing a synchronization system based on GNSS. Moreover, the control signals of each power device in a half-bridge inverter are connected to a controller with GNSS and driven using 10kHz switching, which enables operation of the power conversion circuit without causing a leg short circuit.

This study proposes a novel active power decoupling (APD) control method focusing on the power generation characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) arrays. Numerous studies have been conducted on the APD method for achieving a long lifetime of a residential PV power generation system. The APD method reduces the power pulsation, which contains twice the utility frequency caused by a single-phase PV inverter. Compared with the passive power decoupling method using electrolytic capacitors, the APD method incurs power conversion loss due to the increase in passive components and power devices. Many studies have considered the efficiency improvement of the APD method, however most of them focus on the power conversion loss of the APD circuit. It is necessary to consider the power conversion efficiency of the power conditioner and the power generation efficiency of the PV array collectively to improve the efficiency of the PV system. Therefore, in this study, a compensation power control for APD circuit focusing on the power generation characteristics of the PV array is proposed, and the validity of the proposed APD control was verified by evaluating the efficiency based on real-time simulation and experimental results of a 1kW power conditioner.

Ventilated type traction motors are widely used for railway vehicles. However, they require overhauls to clean up inside them. Besides, they are a major noise source in railway vehicles. To solve these problems, we propose a totally-enclosed type traction motor using permanent magnet synchronous motor, that have the same weight power ratio as that of conventional ventilated type traction motor. In this paper, we report the test results of the proposed motor. The test results demonstrates that the temperature rise values are within its limit and the noise level is decreased by 10 dB compared to conventional motor.

In the conventional rail vehicle, traction motor is mounted on the truck frame, and the shaft torque is transmitted to the wheel set via flexible coupling and reduction gearing. The reduction gearing is effective to increase the torque, but gives rise to maintenance, noise and transmission loss. To overcome these problems and simplify the truck structure, we conceived an idea of wheel mounted direct drive traction motor system without the reduction gearing, and started the development.In this system, the traction motor is required to produce more torque and reduce the mass. So we introduced permanent magnet synchronous motor for the first time in the rail vehicle. Here, we propose fundamental structures of the wheel mounted direct drive traction motors, and present a prototype wheel mounted traction motor model, which is manufactured by trial as the first step of the development. We overcame the problem of temperature rise of permanent magnet, through analysis and improvement of the magnetic structure.

In this study, the authors experimentally verify the improved effects of DC supply voltage utilization by the addition of a third harmonic on pulse-voltage-injected two-phase modulation. Two-phase modulation is known for its low switching loss and high DC supply voltage utilization. However, its output voltage spectrum is spread out over a wider frequency band. Therefore, a novel two-phase modulation scheme using pulse-voltage-injection method was published previously. However, this scheme decreased the DC supply voltage utilization. To address this, the authors compare the experimental results with and without third harmonic addition and verify the effect of increasing this utilization using a three-phase voltage-fed inverter. Present results indicate that third harmonic addition improves the DC supply voltage utilization of this novel modulation scheme. Furthermore, the authors compare output voltage waveforms and spectrum, output current waveforms, and conversion efficiency to verify that the third harmonic addition does not introduce any new problems.

Recently, a neutral point-clamped type inverter (three-level inverter) with large capacity has come to be used in a train, etc. for driving A. C. motor. The three-level inverter has an advantage of being low in harmonics unlike conventional two-level inverter. Moreover, if DC-voltage is at same voltage, a transistor or an IGBT whose switching frequency is high can be used as a substitute for high-voltage GTO thyristor, because the number of switching elements in one arm is double.However, the three-level inverter has a drawback in that the output voltage is not controllable smoothly in the case of output voltage being low. It is because the switching element needs a minimum on-off time; this is especially remarkable with the GTO thyristor whose minimum on-off time is long. In order to avoid operation with this drawback, the three-level inverter frequently adopts a dipola modulation. The dipola modulation adds a bias component to the control signal of output voltage lest the control signal should become low-level, and it generates simultaneously a pulse voltage to cancel the bias component.In this paper, first, the output voltage of a three-level inverter with single phase using dipola modulation is analyzed, then its characteristics of harmonics are made clear. Second, in the case of a three-level inverter with three phases, zero-phase sequence component of harmonics are described. Third, characteristics of harmonics are analyzed in the case of three-level inverter being multiply. Lastly, what are described above are verified by simulation.

Performance tests are carried out to demonstrate the superiority of a permanent magnet synchronous motor to an induction motor as a traction motor for high-speed train. A prototype motor was manufactured by replacing the rotor of a conventional induction motor. The test results show that the permanent magnet motor is lighter, efficient and more silent than the induction motor because of the different rotor structure.
