The work of Jane Austen came between 1813 and 1818, which placed her novels in the Regency period. Different from the Victorian era, it was full of openness, candor, and satire. In addition, sentimentalism is one of the characters of the novels in this era and sentimental novels, where the emergence of feeling is considered as a guide to behavior, are popular. Generally, her work is considered refined, but it is affected by the era. One of her juvenilia, Love and Freindship, which is an epistolary novel, is not elegant but full of Austen's critical spirit. Austen, though fourteen when she wrote it, tried to attack the public tendency to regard sensibility as important.

In instructing children with selective mutism in the field of education, it is necessary to conduct a multi-faceted assessment of each child to enhance their power of expression in a way that suits them in terms of their ability, interest, concern, willingness and motivation. In this study, the goal is to assess the effectiveness of instruction by reporting the progress of a case where three teachers, including one of the authors of this paper, were involved in the instruction in a resource room of a child "G", aged 6, who has selective mutism.G has a level of intellectual development appropriate for her age, but was highly anxious and could not speak in a group. In the resource room, small-group "communication" and "physical exercise" programs were combined with individualized instruction, and were conducted once or twice a week. The instruction entailed physical exercises and painting, which G is good at. Teachers conducted communication skill training by acting in short skits. As a result of yearlong comprehensive instruction, the symptoms of selective mutism declined; G could express her thoughts more actively than before. The instruction seemed to have had some effect. However, at the beginning of the second part of the year, G could no longer attend regular class. Thus those assisting in her recovery have more work to do.

The novel The Master of Go was published in 1952 after 10 years' preparation by Yasunari Kawabata. In this novel he focuses on Shusai, a master of go, twenty-first in the Honninbo succession, who died in 1940. In 1938 the Tokyo Nichinichi Shimbun(now The Mainichi)and the Osaka Mainichi Shimbun sponsored the last Honninbo championship match and Kawabata was invited to report on the fourteen sessions in sixty-four serial installments. After Shusai' s death he was moved to write the novel, and based it on these reports. This paper looks at Kawabata' s writings, the history of old iemoto succession system, the dramatic defeat and the death of the old champion, the wartime popularity of the game, strategic actions by the media, and concludes that the novel symbolizes Shusai' s death as emblematic of a dying culture and the change from pre-modern to modern Japan.

The rate of young people leaving their jobs has increased in recent years. One reason given for this is their failure to develop interpersonal relationships in the workplace. We think educators must cultivate young people's communication skills and the ability to work in teams. This paper examines modern youths' interpersonal motivations and conforming behaviors. We conducted questionnaire research with 148 university students to obtain basic psychological data that we hope will enable us to support them in constructing smooth interpersonal relations. The analyses showed that interpersonal motivations had an influence on conforming behavior. One of the interpersonal relationship styles, conforming to others overtly, has led to difficulties in and dilution of reliable relationships. These characteristics may negatively affect interpersonal relationships in the workplace. Understanding the importance of interpersonal relationships and achieving self-understanding might help young people to develop healthier interpersonal relationships. In addition, we hope that these results will be helpful to those working to support young people in choosing and establishing careers.

Computer-dating, the meeting with others through the Internet, has proliferated for several years. The aims of this study are (a) classifying the purposes of computer-dating usage and (b) investigating the computer-dating users' behaviors and interpersonal relationships (i.e., how many people they contact, how much they are satisfied, and how long they continue to use it). Then it might be expected that (c) they are related with the level of the users' loneliness. Twenty-six participants, who have used computer-dating, were recruited through the Internet and completed questionnaires that examined their loneliness, purpose of computer-dating usage and items regarding usage of computer-dating. The results showed: (1) there were two different types of purposes, "making relationship" and "conversation," and (2) the more loneliness they had, the higher "making relationship" purpose they had. In addition, (3) the purpose for "making relationship" promoted the later interpersonal behaviors on computer-dating.
