In order to continue using wooden houses after the earthquake, it is necessary to accurately judge the damage level and make appropriate repairs. Therefore, an evaluation index for estimating the experience deformation from the damage situation of interior and exterior finishes is proposed. When evaluating the finish damage level of the static resisting wall test and the shaking table test, it was found that internal finish damage was more accurately estimated than external ones. When the cloth was torn along the gypsum board joint, the deformation was classified as D2 level damage.

Grid-purlin system composed of RHS members are known to be effective to prevent buckling of the welded beams. In this paper, lattice dome composed of radial beams and welded grid purlins (Grid purlin shell dome) are studied. The linear, elastic, and elasto-plastic buckling strength of Grid purlin shell domes are analyzed using detailed FEM analyses. Their results are compared with the shell theory with continuum analogy and easy design approaches are investigated.

This paper focused on the effects of outdoor temperature upon the sleep disturbance due to temperature changing in the urban area. We conducted the questionnaire survey at Osaka Prefecture in 2010 through all four seasons. As a result, the positive correlation to sleep quality against outdoor temperature in only summer were found. And the statistical significance were found in the score of SQIDS between the case of using air conditioner and not.

The Meiji Sanriku Tsunami Earthquake of 1896 caused severe damage to the costal area of Northeastern Japan. Especially in Miyagi, Iwate and Amomori Prefectures more than 20 thousands were killed by this tsunami and detailed reports on this disasters were documented. However, the damage in Hokkaido is not recorded in details. In this paper a literature survey was carried out though unknown documents and newspaper articles. Detailed damage by settlements listed. Totally 6 persons were killed at 3 settlements and 25 houses were washed out by this tsunami.

Ogi-island in the Seto Inland Sea has a unique landscape with stone retaining walls and alleys. With depopulation and aging, the quantity of open spaces increased. As the stone wall degrades, the landscape heritage is threatened. We clarified the characteristics of the landscape by its facade and alley configuration. The study finds that the stone wall has a high heritage and aesthetic value, but is threatened by modern repairs. Three alley types were identified namely, V Alley, U Alley and L Alley.

Yokohama Raw Silk Inspection warehouses, completed in 1926 to keep all raw silks which had gathered to Yokohama. This summary reports on some observations identified during the dismantling. The followings were turned out; the ways of creation and installation, and the designs.The way of creation of RC canopy beam was also identified. Wood piles were used for improvement of the foundation. The joint parts of reinforced bars welded together were found from the basement. Moreover, the survey shows that warehouse D had a high quality of the way of welding compared to that of warehouse B; as for warehouse B, the parts were joined together with electric power, so-called flash-butt welding. As for warehouse D, the parts were joined together with electric power and compression, so-called upset-butt welding.

In this study, the general relationship between Japanese speech sound and architecture constructive style is examined. In knowing what kind of constructive style the architecture name reminds with the approach developed in this study, the judgment that real architect name concordant with real constructive style became almost possible.Moreover, from the result of the questionnaire using the model, Grounds to be related to a sound and a visual impression were almost discovered in the case also showing models or its photographs.

Kagai is a Japanese term for traditional entertainment districts. Furumachi Kagai is a significant area, because the historic district is remained. To date, no study has clarified the transition of distribution regarding Kagai buildings and Kashizashiki before early Showa period. This study attempts accurately to clarify the unknown history regarding these transition of distribution from medium Meiji period to early Showa period.

This study clarified the planning process of updating the frame about attracting residence function to historical residential area in Takaoka city, Toyama. Contents of the frame conclude various themes by updating it every year through discussing future vision about specific stock and space. The results are as follows: 1)Environment improvement about stock and space has a role as creating new improvement about other theme or street, stock. 2)The frame like this makes it possible to execute efficiently small environmental improvement witch the residents desire for quality of life.

In Yunotsuru spa there are four Japanese inns with self-cooking facilities, but only one of them does business still now. In the case of these Japanese inns, workers live in it. Although the space of visitors and workers is separated from bordering on the cooking space, the rooms equipped with water supply are shared in some cases. And in the habitation space, a kitchen is located in the lower-part-of-river side. In addition, the guest room faces the road through the open corridor. According to downsizing and removal of self-cooking facilities, rooms by common use also decreased.

This study focuses on the park management evolved from the park renewal project based on the agreement of installation-management permission in Tennoji park. The park management of Tennoji park is composed of hardware tasks and software tasks. First, this study makes clear the process and characteristics of hardware tasks. Second, this study verifies the details and achievement of software tasks including cleaning, security, lawn and planting management as well as events held in Tenshiba under the cooperation with other local actors. Finally, this study evaluates the outcome of park management based on the questionnaire.

Appropriate large-eddy simulation (LES) guidelines for pedestrian wind environments are being established by the working group of the Architectural Institute of Japan. We conducted LESs for a flow field around an isolated building to clarify the influence of computational conditions on turbulent statistics. We performed a cross-comparison study by examining both experimental and LES results for various computational conditions such as grid arrangements, subgrid scale models, spatial derivation schemes for convection term, and convergence criterion for a coupling algorithm of flow and pressure fields. Results can be used to provide LES guidelines for predicting the pedestrian wind environment.

One example of the evaluation of Japanese cities from the viewpoint of a foreign country is “A natural hazard index for megacities” published by Munich Re Group, one of the world’s major reinsurance companies.Among 50 large cities from around the world that were evaluated, Tokyo and Yokohama showed an exceptionally high score by the index. It is necessary to consider such a report as a warning regarding the safety measures in Japan, to behave responsibly as the world’s second leading economic power. However, it should be noted that the content of the evaluation is limited.

This case study examines the seat selection at the time of arrival in a small-scale non-territorial office. The questionnaire to the workers reveals that 23% of workers consider that their seat selections affect their business and 67% of workers prefer to change their seats to avoid other worker’s voice. The observation of the seat selection at the office shows that many workers tend to fix their own seats. Even when they miss the seats, they select another seat in the same area (table). Some particular areas are hardly used while the other areas are frequently selected. And the seats at the corner of each area are occupied first. Some workers select the area where the particular worker sit.

The Concept of the universal design is necessary in the design of pedestrian space. The pedestrian space is repaired in structural design, but the resting place of a side walk is not fully ensured. The aim of this paper is to discuss how to improve resting place from the results of investigation. As the contents of investigation, the benches of the sidewalk on the outskirts of a station are investigated and the investigated benches were divided into 5 groups. As the results, it is cleared that the plan of establishment of bench by the citizens should be reconsider.

An in-situ measurement method using ensemble averaging technique, i.e., EA method, is applied to evaluate absorption characteristics of multi-functional interior materials using porous mortar in development phase. First, absorption characteristics of small specimen are measured by EA method in a reverberation room, and the repeatability of the measurement is confirmed. Next, absorption characteristics of eight kinds of porous mortars with different fine aggregate and porosity are measured by the method, and their absorption characteristics are compared with each other. Finally, the effect of finishing material on absorption characteristics of the porous mortar is examined.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the architectural feature and background of the removing and reconstruction about former government office of Tomobe national sheep farm. Tomobe national sheep farm was one of five sheep farms instituted by Agriculture Department in Taisho era. That government office may be the only building of former national sheep farm in existence. That government office was removing from Hojyo national sheep farm and reconstruction. That office has been conservation since that time.

The greatest feature of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) is an overwhelming high-specific strength. CFRP can change architectural space innovatively. CFRP is a general material as one of the high-performance materials in other fields besides construction. Then, structural use of CFRP already has various track records such as airplane and automobile. Compared with other uses, the use period of construction is long, and higher durability is required especially of structural materials. In this research, experimental verifications are carried out for clarifying durability for the purpose of using CFRP expansively as a structural material of construction.

This study develops a location optimization planning framework for elder care facilities in a local city. Using a target ratio of facility supply, it is relatively easy to estimate the number of target facilities during maximum demand. A spatial perspective is added for locating new facilities and allocation of the care requiring seniors into facilities that incorporate GIS-based concentration of urban functions and daily life orientation of the elderly. This suggests that it should be possible to construct an efficient nearly optimal service supply system by locating and allocating facilities that accurately reflect spheres of daily life of the elderly. By performing similar estimates in 2040 when the elderly population is smaller, we are able to estimate facilities that can be decommissioned and/or torn down. Shortcomings attributed to estimation errors, limited assumption conditions, prioritization in locating new care facilities, and other biases in locating of current facilities are also pointed out.

The aim of this study is to clarify costs and benefits of the enclosed arcade of Nibangai, which is thought of as one of prosperous shopping arcades. Through interviews and analyzing documents, following facts are apparent. It is possible to say that economical and human costs of building, maintaining, and taking away an enclosed arcade represent a heavy burden on the local commercial association. On the other hand, cooperative relationships of within the association and the budget of the association are fostered by the existence of an enclosed arcade. And the enclosed arcade also influences aspect of the street.
