In this paper, the results of PS-logging conducted in Chiba city and the northwest area of Chiba prefecture are used to estimate S-wave velocity of the surface ground. This area consists of diluvial formation, alluvium and filling soil. Based on the regression analysis, expressions that give S-wave velocities of sandy soils and cohesive soils from SPT N-values and depth are proposed, as well as standard values of S-wave velocities for humic soil(peat) and Kanto loam.

The aim of this report is to clarify the actual condition and problems of the university community space; “Omoshiro Lab.” in Hiroshima University, where the renovation plan and management system are mainly proposed by students. In the report, the actual condition of the proposal of renovation and its background are clarified. Then, the status and problems of management and operation of the space after renovation are clarified.

In accordance with the joint development of individual wagons with manufacturers accompanying free-addressing at university research facilities, this study examined the characteristics of each proposal from candidate manufacturers and factors contributing to the user’s wagon selection. Specifically, this study clarified (1) conditions and purposes underlying candidate manufacturers’ proposals and (2) questionnaire respondents’ decisive factors in selecting wagons.

The purpose of this study is to consider a necessary community planning activity and the problem by investigating the content of the situation of the community planning activity for the urban regeneration. The district where the community planning activity for the urban regeneration is executed increases year after year. Moreover, a downtown, a sightseeing spot, and a residential quarter are the majority in the district where the community planning activity is executed. It is important to establish the activity organization for the success in the community planning activity. And it is important to establish the system to continue the community planning activity.

This article examined the building used the Japanese nail and the Western nail together, and following points became clear.The combination of the Japanese nail and the Western nail began in the advanced area early in the Meiji era and concentrated on it generally in the latter half from the Meiji early 10s.There was a dual circulation period for the switch of the Western nail from the Japanese nail, and every use point was gradually rearranged from the Japanese nail to the Western nail.

This report is a result of survey of existing buildings in South Sakhalin which were built during 1905〜1945. In three principal cities, Hormsk (former Maoka), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (former Toyohara) and Korsakov (former Odomari), we visited 128 buildings and ascentained 85 among them still standing. They comprise 10 public buildings, 25 industrial buildings and 50 dwelling houses. Here described are the appearances and alterations of ten buildings selected from them, including the Historical Museum (1938), the former Hokkaido Takushoku Bank (1931, now Municipal Art Museum), both in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, and so on.

The purpose of this research is to grasp the relationship between subsidy programme to preserve traditional colonnade and inhabitants’ mind. The results are as follows; 1) 90% of inhabitants thinks the programme to be continued. 2) The programme meets demands particular to each local community. 3) The programme evokes inhabitants’ action to colonnade. 4) Local authorities revise the programme according to inhabitants’ mind.

In this paper, with a purpose to clarify the viewpoints and effective measures in reducing energy consumption at experimental research facilities in campus, we conducted a detailed energy-consumption examination on physics and agricultural research buildings, and as a measure to save energy without hindering the experiment ongoing in the facilities, mapped out “renovation of experimental air supply and exhaust system”. As a result, it has been clarified that it is possible to reduce power consumption by 23% without hindering the experiments and indoor comfort.

KINDAI University and various enterprises proposed a Zero-Energy-House(ZEH) called “ENEMANE R HOUSE” in ENEMANE HOUSE 2017. A real size house was built in Osaka and its environmental performance was measured in November 2017. This report presents the energy-saving and environmental technology adopted in this house and its effects. The findings show that this house achieved a ZEH status sufficiently and has excellent environmental performance.

A simple seismic isolation system by leveraging buoyancy has been devised for spread foundation structures. Through dynamic centrifuge tests, it is shown experimentally that a sliding isolation effect arises during seismic loading if a buoyant force of appropriate magnitude is applied to the base of the foundation. It is confirmed that seismic isolation performance tends to improve as the buoyancy-to-weight ratio increases. Performance when the buoyancy-to-weight ratio is 90% or more is particularly good, and the maximum response acceleration of a structure can be reduced to below 100 cm/s<sup>2</sup> against a sinusoidal wave with a maximum acceleration of 500 cm/s<sup>2</sup>.

“Kagai” is a precious entertainment district that succeeds Japanese traditional culture including architecture, dress, dance, music, cuisine, etc. However they are declining because of changing entertainment trend. As a way of activation in kagai, townscape can be enhanced by placing traditional lanterns on many shops and houses. This paper shows how these lanterns are placed in kagai. These lanterns are placed by various types of organizations.

The main purpose of this study is to evaluate thermal comfort levels in traditional Malay houses based on a field measurement, with an interest to apply its traditional passive cooling techniques to modern houses in Malaysia. The results reveal that indoor air temperatures are 1-2&deg;C higher than the corresponding outdoor air temperatures throughout the day except for a few morning hours around 9 a.m. Air movement obtained by open windows or ceiling fan is required to lower the SET* and improve thermal comfort. Solar heat control and a cool microclimate might be two fundamental traditional cooling techniques for these lightweight houses.

The seismic isolation retrofit of the main building of the National Museum of Western Art required excavating the foundation ground under the existent building and installing isolation devices beneath the existing footings. Before the installation of isolation devices, it was necessary to construct piles beneath the existing footings in order to support the weight of the building temporarily during excavation process. The piles were made of steel pipe segments, and were driven by oil jacks utilizing the weight of the building for reaction force. During the retrofitting process, the subsidence of the building supported by the piles were monitored and controlled to avoid causing damage to the superstructure.

Efforts of local governments are essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), core elements of the 2030 agenda adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. A nationwide online questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data on the actual implementation level of the SDGs in Japan. Results showed that about 30-40% of local governments is considering/developing a plan and implementing projects towards achievement of the SDGs in Japan.

In Southeast Asia, the water level change and periodical wind can threaten their lives at times. I think it important to grasp how they cope with natural wonder and live comfortably. Therefore, I surveyed "the location of houses" "the relocation of floating houses, removal and vocational change" "the structure of houses" "everyday life," and "the microclimate of houses" of the villages of Lake Tempe in Sulawesi Island. As a result, I clarified some corresponding techniques. For example, residents move their floating houses to the center of the lake in the dry season and to the shore in the wet season. If the water level goes down, residents move to the land houses and do farming.

The present report comprises a facility investigation of 11 guide dog training facilities run by 11 corporations as guide dog training facilities authorized by the National Public Safety Commission in Japan.The layout of each facility and the scale and configuration of the various rooms within are clarified based on categorization of the rooms into the kennel, joint-training, and administrative and management offices divisions, and the diversity among the facilities is discussed.Specific examples are cited to analyze the characteristics of the kennels and joint training rooms.

Meiji Imperial Palace and its building agency are the milestone of the modern architecture in Japan. In this study, duties and employment of the draft men were analyzed by the documents of the Imperial Household Agency, and their details were considered by the diary of Chiyotaro Tenaka who had been at the Miyadaiku family.<br>As the result, some facts are developed such as; drafting and the part of planning were shouldered by the draft men, who were tested to measure their skills, about a half of them were promoted to the full-time building engineer for the national agencies.

Meiji Imperial Palace is the milestone of the modern architecture in Japan, which is known its models were presented to the emperor on the making process.In this study, two models of the palace possessed by Tokyo National Museum are considered their story and the background. One model is for Ekkenjo, made in 1884. As being presented to the emperor after that studied by changing fixtures, this model is positioned as the valuable materials of examining for designing process. The other model is for Nishitamari no ma uwaya, the scarcity example showing a method of construction of the temporally roof.

It is anticipated and hoped that World Cup Soccer will not only activate its convening organization but will also afford opportunities to the localities in which the participating teams will establish camps for training and lodging. There is a tendency to discuss only the economic effects that will accompany the regional activation, but societal results are also an important aspect. Accordingly, the case of the 1998 World Cup Soccer Tournament in France, which was the immediate precedent to the 2002 Tournament that was held in Japan and the Republic of Korea, was taken up for study, with an examination of the societal aspects of the conditions of activation in the localities where the teams had camps, by means of questionnaires sent to local governments and through on-the-spot polls and surveys.
