Although qualitative research contains a broad range of possibilities for theorization, there is no common standard to measure the degree of achievement of papers. By contrast, quantitative studies have shared methodology for statistics and numerical results that enable easier comparison between papers. In my experience reviewing submitted qualitative research papers, the important points are to set up the theoretical framework that illustrates the relationships among the introduced concepts at the beginning, to include a clear research question, to deploy a relevant empirical case study or studies, to interpret them through the use of the concepts initially introduced, and to identify new implications for future research. The paper must be equipped with several sorts of validities and, in some instances, causality as well. Social science studies of agriculture and forestry have a mission to solve the many real challenges, which is inherent in applied sciences. In this sense, the method of action research is required in the qualitative research of our field under the current conditions of rural degradation of agricultural production and local societies. Despite the difficulties posed by the new research method like action research, qualitative research can provide valuable perspectives and benefits for designing agriculture and forestry of the future.
