<p>A numerical calculation scheme for stress and its consistent tangent moduli with hyper-dual numbers(HDN) for Ogden-type hyperelastic material model was proposed. The main advantage of this scheme is that once the framework is coded, any Ogden-type hyperelastic material model can be implemented by only re-coding the strain energy density function. In this scheme, the new differentiation method for eigenvalue and eigenvector of the symmetric matrices with HDN were proposed. The proposed method can calculate the eigenvalue and eigenvector in non-real part analytically by using the eigenvalue and eigenvector in real part, in case that all eigenvalues in real part are not multiple root. We implemented the Neo-Hookean model and the Ogden model with the proposed scheme, to confirm the effectiveness and robustness of this method, and applied it to some examples. As the results, it was confirmed that the numerical results of the proposed method showed good agreement with analytical ones.</p>

<p>The authors have proposed a new type of endless flat surface systems, since existing endless surface systems have slops and/or gaps on their surfaces. In the proposed system, tensile cloths are stitched to form a sphere. Spreading the sphere makes a flat surface. Its form is fixed by omni-wheels configured in the stitched cloth. The flat surface is controlled by omni-wheels that are outside of the stitched cloth. This paper presents the driving mechanism of the proposed system.</p>

Recently, it becomes very important to make the environment of handicapped people in the daily life more comfortable and there are many rising movements and activities to fulfill the subject. As a result, the occasion and the field where handicapped people can exercise their ability are increasing. But it is very difficult for them to play such as the wind instruments freely, because such performance needs very skillful and delicate movements of their body parts. In this research, we assume that a professional sax player became unable to use his lips to make good embouchure because of the lack of the lip muscle force and unable to play the saxophone properly. The research object is that we should develop an easily controllable device to make artificial embouchure and the device should enable the player to play the saxophone as before.

The crash safety structure of the railway vehicles is effective as one of the safety measures against the train crews and the passengers in the event of a collision accident. The standards for crashworthiness of railway vehicles are defined in Europe and the U.S., while there are no standards for crash safety in Japan. Therefore, it is important to establish the evaluation method for crashworthiness of railway vehicles considering the actual situation of collision accidents in Japan. The authors carried out finite element analyses of a level crossing accident under various conditions (collision speed, mass of the obstacle and relative position between the train and the obstacle) based on the statistical analysis of serious level-crossing accidents in the past in Japan, and calculated the deceleration time histories in the passenger area under each condition. We evaluated these deceleration waveforms according to European and the U.S. standards for crashworthiness, and we also performed finite element analyses of dummy’s behavior and injury values using these deceleration waveforms as input. We verified the correlation between the evaluation results in terms of the deceleration according to these standards and dummy’s injury values obtained by finite element analyses. As a result, the evaluation according to the velocity at which a passenger contacts the seat back ahead of him (the U.S. standards) was the most effective. Moreover, the integrated values of the deceleration of the passenger area during an integration time t360 had the highest correlation with the dummy’s injury values.

As a meshless numerical analysis, particle methods are considered promising in the filed of fluid dynamics and structural analyses. SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), which has been mainly applied to super fast impact or collision problems, is expected to be a more powerful tool for general structural problems such as large deformation and general 3-dim structural problems of complex geometrical objects. However, the fundamental characteristics (accuracy and convergence of solution, effects of time increment and artificial viscosity, etc) of particle methods have not been clarified at all, which causes the fatal limitation of this method. This paper discussed the several numerical properties of SPH by comparing FEM results. It is shown that structural analysis by particle method (SPH) has relatively good accuracy, as well as good numerical convergence and stability in comparison with traditional method (finite element method) and is expected to be a sophisticated tool for a meshless structural analysis.

<p>The rigid plastic finite element method (RPFEM) is used in many re-meshing procedures in material processing analysis. Currently, the four-node quadrilateral element, which can avoid volumetric locking, is applied in the RPFEM. However, it is desirable to apply the three-node triangular element instead because of its easy and robust mesh generation procedure. This study applied the three-node triangular element with drilling and strain degrees of freedoms (GNTri3) to the RPFEM, the validity of which was verified by analyzing some numerical examples. First, as verification for the volumetric locking characteristic of the GNTri3, FEM analysis of a nearly incompressible elastic body under plane strain conditions was performed. Volumetric locking was recognized by applying full integration to the element stiffness matrix of the GNTri3. Therefore, it was revealed that the RPFEM using the GNTri3 is necessary for applying selective reduced integration to the element stiffness matrix. Analysis of the RPFEM using the GNTri3 showed that the tool pressure was in good agreement with theoretical solutions and FEM results obtained using a conventional four-node quadrilateral element at a rigid punch indentation. In addition, reasonable material processing deformations were computed in the plane strain compression test.Therefore, validity of the RPFEM using the GNTri3 was verified by numerical results.</p>

Battery train is in development as train which can travel in non-electrified section using power supplied from onboard storage system such as lithium-ion battery. However, as characteristics of this type of train, an energy consumption of battery train depends on the state of charge of the storage system. In consideration of these characteristics, we propose a generation method of the timetable which is the most energy-saving when a single battery train travels on a route section containing multiple stations in this research. Although this optimization can be defined as a nonlinear programming problem, we ease to solve this problem using linear approximation to the energy consumption characteristic. In the end, we carried out a simulation in a simple case and achieved 4.7% reduction in energy consumption by the proposed method.

In this paper, propose a new fuel injection system using diesel fuel dissolved in liquefied CO2. The system has the capability of reducing both NOx and soot simultaneously. This concept strives to improve the atomization of fuel spray by flash boiling liquefied CO2 gas. Moreover, it is possible to control the combustion system, for instance, and internal EGR effect is produced by the separated CO2 gas. In this paper, the characteristics of diesel spray of the fuel dissolved with liquefied CO2 were investigated using several optical measurements and the variance of CO2 molar fraction, ambient pressure and ambient density under room-temperature conditions. The spray characteristics were revealed using analysis in chemical thermodynamics. The atomization and dispersion of a free spray composed of fuel dissolved in liquefied CO2 are much better than those of normal diesel fuel oil, due to the flash boiling process in the relatively low pressure field.

Original KIVA code cannot take account for the spray and combustion processes of multicomponent fuels. Therefore, it is necessary to produce the sub-models for multicomponent fuel using KIVA code. In this study, the modeling of detailed physical properties and evaporation process for multicomponent fuel was conducted. In addition, the effects of fuel composition in multicomponent fuel on vapor distribution, spray tip penetration, vapor mass and evaporation rate, and sauter mean diameter were numerically investigated by using KIVA 3 V code with this multicomponent fuel spray model. From the numerical results, the spray characteristics of multicomponent fuel varied with a change in mixing fraction in multicomponent fuel. Especially, the evaporation of multicomponent fuel was not necessarily improved, even if much amount of high volatility fuel was mixed in the multicomponent fuel.

This paper presents the model analysis of atomization and vaporization process in a flash boiling spray based on the experimental results. Two kinds of liquid fuel, n-Pentane and n-Hexane, are injected into quiescent gaseous atmosphere at room temperature with low pressure through a pintle-type injector. Then, in flash boiling spray region where the back pressure is below the saturated vapor pressure of fuel, the bubble nucleation process due to flash boiling is modeled by the nucleation rate equation. Furthermore, fuel vaporization process is assessed by considering bubble growth calculations of vapor cavitation phenomena and fuel evaporation due to heat transfer process. Accordingly, we could estimate quantitatively the transient changes in bubble diameter and vapor mass fraction inside the spray for each back pressure condition.

The new injection system by using mixed fuel dissolved with liquefied CO2 was proposed in this paper. Liquefied CO2 was mixed into n-tridecane under pressurized state in order to promote the spray atomization and evaporation due to the effect of the flash boiling phenomena in fuel injection, and to control the combustion process due to the effect of internal EGR effect of CO2 gas. Therefore, the simultaneous reduction of soot and NOx cas be achieved effectively by use of this injection system. In this paper, the characteristics of diesel fuel spray dissolved with liquefied CO2 were investigated quantitatively by means of several optical measurements. And the spray characteristics were revealed by the analysis of chemical thermodynamics. As a result, the atomization of this fuel is promoted due to the flash boiling much more than n-tridecane as the reference of the normal fuel and the spray structure is highly diHerent from that of the normal fuel.Moreover, thenumerical analysis for the atomization and the vaporization process wan carried out based on the flash boiling spray models.

In previous multi-dimensional modeling on spray dynamics and vapor formation, single component fuel with pure substrance has been analyzed to assess the mixture formation process. Then it shold be expected that the evaporation process could be performed for the multi-component fuel such as actual Gasoline and Diesel gas oil. In this study, vapor liquid equilibrium prediction was conducted for multi component fuels such as 3 and 10 components mixed solution with ideal solution analysis and non ideal solution analysis. And the computation of distillation characteristics was conducted for the steady state fuel conditions to understand the evaporation process. As a result, calculated distillation characteristics is consistent well with experiment results. Further the vapor concentration was measured for the analysis of the binary fuel spray using IR absorption measurement method.
