A method of damage based prediction of static strength of MEMS structures fabricated by Bosch process was proposed. Four points bending tests in different bending directions were performed in order to evaluate the distribution of damage-characteristics on the processed surface as a function of position along the etching direction. As a result, the static strength of notched specimens was successfully predicted from the characteristics obtained with the specimens without notch.-

Judder is well known oscillation occurring in dry clutches. To maintain riding comfort and silence in dry clutches, a lot of studies of judder analysis and machine design suppressing judder have been done. This paper describes the design and implementation of a robust control technique as a judder suppression approach for clutch during shifting. We address the automatic transmission using dry clutches of which the μ-V characteristics show a complicated nonlinearity. Specifically, their friction coefficient varies non-linearly with respect to the rotational speed during shifting. In this paper, it is clarified that the non-linear μ-V characteristic can be expressed as frequency uncertainties and then the control system is constructed with H∞ control. To verify the validity of such the approach, the results of simulation and bench testing are presented. As a result, we see that the proposed approach allows us to achieve the shifting without judder. Furthermore, we show the three controller requirements by analyzing the robust controllers.

An experiment has been conducted to investigate static pressure fluctuation behind shock wave in self-excited shock wave oscillation phenomenon on 2D symmetrical circular-arc airfoil in internal transonic flow. Static pressure fluctuation was measured by high-response static pressure probe, and flow was visualized by Schlieren method. Experimental results show that static pressure fluctuation become smaller, as shock wave movement become smaller. In addition, concerning the phase delay of static pressure fluctuation behind shock wave, the overall trend is that the phase delay becomes larger, as the measured point leave for shock wave. When the shock wave form is saw tooth wave, phase delay trended to different from when the shock wave form is sine wave.

Up to the present, authors surveyed the cart ruts in ruins of the Greece age and the Rome age in Turkey. The places are the western coastal region around the Aegean Sea. Those investigated places were Perge, Hierapolis of Pamukkale, and Efes. The date was August, 1998. The wheels and the chassis of the carriages were mentioned in the investigation results. The carriages in various places by the field survey were thought to be used in the ancient times.

Kyudo is a competition which applies an arrow on a target, and a series of operations which shoot an arrow are important. This study will focus on one of their drawing motion. Draw become different a school and by individual physique and thought, but it is not analyzed numerically, and almost of the experience to know what the athlete. In this study, consider the optimization of drawing motion for multipurpose genetic algorithm. We analyzed from the perspective of the forward dynamics, using a human and bow model of Japanese archery for even large deformation beam and the rigid link.

Al alloy matrix composite with TiNi shape memory fibers as reinforcement has been fabricated by hot pressing to enhance the mechanical properties. The smartness of the composite is given due to the shape memory effect of the TiNi fiber which generates compressive residual stress in the matrix material when heated after being prestrained. It showed that the yield stress at 90℃ was higher than that of the room temperature. Especially, the tensile Strength of this composite increases with increasing amount of prestrain, and it also depends on the volume fraction of fiber and heat treatment. Comparison between theoretical estimation and experimental data showed almost good correlation by introducing non-linear FEM analysis.

The paper presents the application of a three component model to the theoretical study of the combustion process of a Diesel engine fueled with sunflower oil and sunflower oil-Diesel fuel mixtures. [1] and [2] we have obtained the cylinder pressure during combustion, for the vegetable fuels taken into account; the peak values were confirmed during the experiments.

We have developed a converted noise localization method, Converted Nearfield Acoustic Holography (NAH) method. This method can measure high frequency noise source with short measurement time. However, this method has some deterioration in the reconstructed images. In this paper, the experiments results of measurements for an engine are explained. As a result, it is verified that the proposing method can measure high frequency noise of engines quickly.

Researching the origin of railway gauge of 4 ft 8.5 in (1435 mm), field survey has been done in Turkey, Central Asia, India, Pompei and Ercolanb of Roman ruins. In this report, Ostia Antica; ancient port of Roma, was surveyed. Many wheel ruts of Roman chariot were found and their gauges were measured. The measured results are nearly equal to present international railway standard gauge. Accordingly, the origin of railway gauge is in wheel rut of chariot at Roman Empire.

共析鋼に脱炭処理を施すことによりフェライトが種々混在する試験片を作製し, 耐久限度の大小に及ぼす限界停留き裂寸法l<SUB>c</SUB>とフェライト体積分率V<SUB>fF</SUB>の関係を調べるとともに, セメンタイトラメラ間隔の変化が耐久限度に及ぼす影響についても検討を加え, 以下に述べる結論を得た. 耐久限度の大小は, l<SUB>c</SUB>がV<SUB>fF</SUB>の減少とともに減少するという現象を通じてV<SUB>fF</SUB>と密接に関連する. また, 耐久限度σ<SUB>woとl<SUB>c</SUB>との間にはσ<SUP>m</SUP><SUB><</SUB>wo</SUB>l<SUB>c</SUB>=Cとなる関係が成立する.

The nickel/metal hydride battery (Ni/MH) has been developed as a power source for the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and the pure electric vehicle (PEV). But the large battery with heavy duty cycle by more rapid charge and discharge than today's is desirable for the diffusion of HEV and PEV. Therefore the thermal behavior of Ni/MH battery must be understood precisely for the battery size enlargement and its performance improvement. In this report the thermal behavior of small Ni/MH battery during rapid charge and discharge cycle has been studied numerically and experimentally by considering the entropy changes by electrochemical reactions, the endothermic reaction by hydrogen occlusion to MH, the exothermic reaction by side reaction, the heat generation by overpotential and the heat transfer to the ambient air. The calculated cell temperature agrees well with the measured under both the charge and discharge cycles below the rated current, but the calculated is larger than the measured above the rated current.

It is widely accepted that stability of bodily movement is a key to studying skills. We can however not explain what the stability is. We took as an example of skills the walking on stilts and investigated how the bodily movement of the experienced are different from those of the inexperienced. We analyzed the difference in terms of stability of periodic movements. As a result, it showed significant differences between the experienced and the inexperienced.

This paper is concerned with the tensile strength and strain rate of concrete materials by means of the experimental method of reflected tensile stress waves. The experiment is conducted by the Hopkinson bar technique and it is based on the superposition and concentration of tensile stress waves reflected both from the free ends of a striking bar and a specimen bar. The impact tensile experiment for concrete materials was carried out and the tensile strength of concrete under impact loadings was discussed as well as the effect of strain rates. This study is focused on the measurement of strain rates using both strain gages and crack gages. It is found that the impact tensile strength of concrete is remarkably influenced by strain rates ranging from 10^0 to 10^2 sec^<-1>.

Under the volatile economic situation in recent years, manufacturers need to have a high level of flexibility to manage a wide variety of products in varying quantities within a short delivery lead time. But in dynamically changing manufacturing environment, it is quite difficult to optimize interdivisional scheduling which reduces total manufacturing cost of all divisions such as raw material procurement, machining, assembling and shipping following fluctuations in demand. To solve this problem, we propose a new interdivisional scheduling method which decomposes the whole problem into process-dependent problems using inter-process lead time and cooperates between processes by applying Lagrangian decomposition coordination method. Additionally we designed the method which can adjust inter-process lead time automatically in order to respond to the changing demand of each item. Then we examine the effectiveness of this method by numerical experiments.
