Extraction of emotion from facial expression and voice are attempted in this research. Although there are researches on extracting emotion using still pictures, there are quite few which analyze motion pictures. The eye and mouse motion were observed. Voice analysis was done based upon sound pressure.

The frictional characteristics of earthworms were determined using a 3D micro force plate developed in our laboratory. It was possible to measure the frictional force and vertical force applied to the force plate. Earthworms, named "Eisenia fetida" and "Pheretima hupeiensis" in Japanese, were used to determine their frictional behaviors when they moved on waterproof sand papers fixed to the force plate. The coefficient of static friction of Eisenia fetida against the sand papers were 6.9, 5.7, and 3.9, at the roughness of 2.98, 3.73, and 16.2 μm, respectively, with a significant difference (p<0.05) observed between the roughness of 2.98 and 16.2 μm. The coefficient of friction of Pheretima hupeiensis against the sand papers indicated a smilar trend as to Eisenia fetida, with a significant difference observed between the roughness of 2.98 and 16.2 μm. Note that the coefficient was significantly higher in Pheretima hupeiensis than in Eisenia fetida at the roughness of 2.98 μm. Mucous liquid secreted from earthworms was observed on the surface of the roughness of 2.98 and 3.73 μm after the friction test. Microscopic observation indicated that earthworms had many spikes called "seta" around their bodies and that they controlled the length of the seta during the movement on an irregular surface. These results indicate that earthworms control their frictional behavior in response to various surfaces that they contact by the use of their mucous liquid and seta They also indicate that the mucous liquid plays more important role than the seta in controlling the frictional behavior of earthworms in response to relatively smooth surfaces.

We have developed a method of cooling high-power-density CPU modules within a bending duct. The method uses a jet-duct system made of an air duct and axial fans. This system has slit orifices upstream from the CPU modules. Pressure drops in this system are calculated as four values : wringing loss in the chamber, friction loss in the duct, extrusion loss from the duct, and wringing loss in the slit orifice. These loss values agree with the experimentally measured losses to within an error of ±10%. The calculation showed that when the duct width is small, the wringing loss in the chamber account for the major part of the total loss.

本論文は旋回流を伴った円筒管内再循環流領域の生成に関して述べたものである.本研究では,レイノズル数1500までに対して,ノズルからの一次流れと旋回器からの二次流れの比,ならびに旋回角の変化に対する数値計算と実験が行われている.そして実験値と計算結果は良く位置している.これらの結果から,流量比,旋回角,レイノルズ数の変化に対する流れ様式を再循環流領域の大きさ,形状などを明らかにした.

平滑丸棒試験片を用いて応力制御の引張圧縮疲労試験を行なった. 初期段階のΔεpやH<SUB>V</SUB>の増加は転移密度の増加に依存している. この段階は局部的な疲労降伏域が試験片全体に広がる過程である. 中期段階は繰返しによる動的快復の過程であって, 自由転移の移動を規制するセル構造(σ<SUB>a</SUB>大)やループパッチ組織(σ<SUB>a</SUB>小)間の大きさの減少がΔεpの減少を支配している. 初期から中期段階へのせん移は, 疲労すべり帯がなだれ的に発生するためである.

An electric guitar is composed of a wooden body, a wooden neck, 6 steal strings and other electric parts including an electromagnetic pickup. An electric guitar convert string vibration into electric signal through a pickup, and the sound is emitted with an amplifier, or a speaker. Usually, high density and high stiffness wood is used for body material to sustain string vibration longer and the sound remains. Also, it is reported that the material of a body influences the quality of the sound. Nonetheless, there are few studies focused on detail of vibration propagation between string vibration and sound. Authors have studied on the structure of traditional instruments to clarify the vibration characteristics especially from the aspect of vibration energy propagation model in recent years. Specifically, the vibration propagation characteristics of several instruments have been evaluated using SEA: the bridge structure and the sound post of violin, and soundboard of a piano. It is expected that SEA may also help understanding sound emitting process of a guitar. In this study, vibration energy propagation of two test guitars composed of different body material are observed with experimental SEA, to evaluate the influence of body material on the guitar sound. As a result, it has represented the difference between the guitar in the vibration propagation characteristics between the neck and body. The guitar which the Young's modulus of body materials has a big has a big sound pressure level. There is a strong correlation in the frequency characteristic of input power and sound pressure level.

Tables and chairs in conference room have a variety of arrangement for various events. So user have to change it everytime before and opening of the conference. It is very convenient for us that we can convert the work from manual to automatic. Then the purpose of this study is the autonomous arrangement by mechanized mobile tables. First, we decided to use the omni directional mobile mechanism. And we made the experimental machine of mobile table. And finally, we succeeded in autonomous rearrangement of four mobile tables within about 3 % error of position.

Leonardo da Vinci is not only famous as the artist who painted master pieces such as "The Last Supper" and "Mona Lisa", he is also a great scientist and engineer. He left records of many original scientific investions and explorations in books now known as Leonardo's Codices. These codices include anatomical charts, mechanical equipment, civil engineering concepts, and drawings related to architecture, astronomy, botany, and so on. The contents of these Codices are interesting for beginners who are studying mechanical engineering, although beginners are not used to recognizing a solid from a drawing. Therefore, models were reconstructed from the drawings in these codices, to be used as teaching materials for the study of mechanical engineering. In a lecture as part of a mechanics course, it was possible to generate an interest in mechanical engineering among beginners who studied the mechanics by using the reconstructed models. Similarly, an opportunity to consider the field of mechanical engineering was given to students of primary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, and their parents, by the reconstructed models presented in the DA VINCI Festival at Toyama Prefectural University.

An unsteady-wave-sensing-system (UWSS) is developed for evaluating the wave propagation characteristics of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) for loading-reloading-unloading waves using plate-impact experiments and three PVDF gauges. By applying the UWSS, stress, particle-velocity, strain and two kinds of phase velocities at one location in the PMMA are determined as functions of time. The phase velocities U^σ associated with the stress profiles are generally different from the other phase velocities U^υ associated with the particle-velocity profiles. From loading to reloading are transitions very near from the Hugoniot in the stress-strain plane, but from reloading to unloading are transitions upward off the Hugoniot. In the region of our experimental stress, PMMA does not behave as liquid and the Hugoniot of PMMA is not effective for the loading-history-characteristics.

本研究は材料内の温度から起る熱内力の成因と諸性質とを考究し材料特に軟鋼の破壊過程に及ぼす影響を究めるを目的とし、實驗結果を解柝する爲數式を取扱つたものである。周知の如く熱傳導基礎式は變數を分離して解ける。從つて初めの條件周邊の條件等は三角函數、円〓函數或は球函數の諸性質を利用して各別に滿足させ得る。即ち所謂ストークス法により條件式を滿足し得る基礎式積分の方法を示し軟鋼によつて二三歪模様を添えて第一報としたものである。緒論に就く前に一言御斷りし度い。曩に著者は軟鋼の歪の分類を次の如く試みた。1.結晶各個の歪.......第一次の辷り。2.結晶群としての歪.........第二次の辷り。イ、彈性歪.........(第二次)第一種第一類の辷り、ロ、粘性歪.........(第二次)第一種第二類の辷り、ハ、局部歪.........(第二次)第二種の辷り。如上の各項の前者は前報告に於て試みた分類に使用した言葉であるが之等は從來慣用されておる言葉を同語異義に使つておるので甚だ紛しい事と内容を言葉の上に表し度い考へで中原先生の御注意に從ひ此の報告から前者の代りに後者を用ひる事とする。

Recently, several types of nursing care equipment to aid the lifting and transfer of aged persons have been developed. Especially, rotational boom-type care lifts are used widely because of their simplicity and usefulness. However, such lifts sometimes provide a feeling of uneasiness because during lift-up, the center of the human body moves backward relative to the position of the heel. Hence, in this paper, we first propose a telescopic boom-type care lift to approximate the trajectory of the lift-up motion of a human standing up naturally. By using a multibody dynamics approach, we show that the proposed mechanism can achieve nearly natural standing-up motion and requires a smaller force for lift-up than that required by the conventional-type lift. Next, we develop a prototype telescopic boom-type care lift and verify experimentally that the proposed lift can reduce mental and physical burden compared with the conventional lift. To compare mental burden, we conduct a sensory evaluation by administering a questionnaire. To compare physical burden, we estimate muscle activation based on users' electromyographic signals. These results show the effectiveness of the proposed telescopic boom-type lift. Finally, we consider the optimal design of the proposed care lift structure. We propose an algorithm to seek optimal design parameters that minimize the error between the tip trajectory of the lift and the human chest trajectory measured using a motion capture system.

エアーリード楽器の一種である尺八は人間の指と口顎部を微妙に動かすことで様々な奏法を繰り出すことができる。その人間の微妙な動作を機械システムで実現しようというのが本研究の目的である。今回は自動演奏ロボットにおける全体的な構想および実際に開発した運指部・口顎部の機構システムについて報告する。

Any wind instrument can sound due to the vibration of the air, expiration flow inside of the wind instrument. In case of a trumpet or a clarinet, a mouth or a reed helps to sound variable tones. In case of a flute, there is no mechanical vibration. We would like to investigate more detail about the flow and the vibration with sound inside or outside of the flute, in order to understand the mechanism of the wind instrument and to aid in the manufacture of the good instrument. In this report, a Japanese traditional bamboo flute was used in the experiment. The dynamic PIV technique was applied to measure the vibration. 2 kinds of experiments were done. The Argon-gas flow with different tone inside/outside of the bamboo flute was measured using a high frequency pulse laser. Oil mist was used as the tracer particles. Then, we also tried to measure the flow in bamboo flute when a human player played, using a CW laser and the water-mist as the tracers. We successfully measured that the periodical flow near a hole of the bamboo flute went out from and came into the flute at 200-500Hz dependent on the tone.

本研究は, 尺八の自動演奏ロボットの開発を目的とする。尺八の音量は主として供給空気流の流速に依存することがわかっている。これまで, リリーフバルブを用いて供給圧力を制御していたが, より, 効率的な制御を行うためには高速動作で流量を直接制御するバルブを開発する必要がある。本報告では, 線形特性を持つ流量制御のためのバルブの開発を行った。

In this paper, we propose the model-free inverse kinematics method based on high order moment feature and its Jacobian matrix, which can use arbitrary shape information as reference input free from the structure of targeted kinematic chains. The method is especially useful to generate the motion of humanoid systems, and we can generate the whole body pose from the set of 3D markers or the pixels 2D images, without labeling each feature point of these data with the specified link of the humanoid. The moment feature can be computed from various types of quantities, for example, from geometric points, mass density, pixel images, and the labels of some featured links, which implies general versatility and applicability of the method. We show some results of motion of a human figure generated by the label-less 3D markers and the 2D images.

Labyrinth seals have the potential to cause rotordynamic instability induced by the fluid force of seal flows. We conducted a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) study to investigate the rotordynamic characteristics of the shaft labyrinth seal of a steam turbine. The effects of different seal gap (0.42-0.85 mm) and seal length (47.6-357 mm) were systematically investigated. The predicted stiffness coefficients increased with increasing seal length as expected, but short seals (<100 mm) indicated stronger dependence on seal length. Stiffness coefficients of short seals also indicated strong dependence on seal gap, and increased inversely with decreasing gap, while stiffness coefficients of long seals depend less on seal gap.
