This study examines the influence of dynamic stiffness in the contact region on disk brake squeal. The frequency of squeal becomes higher as the thrust pressure grows larger. We think the cause of this phenomenon is that the stiffness of the pad depends on thrust pressure, because the vibration characteristics of the disk and the caliper are not change by thrust pressure. Therefore, we measure the contact stiffness of the pad. The results show that the stiffness of the pad has pressure dependency. To clarify the influence of the pad stiffness on squeal, we analyze the disk-pad-caliper system as the surface contact analysis model, which combines the disk with the pad-caliper by distributed springs.

A novel measurement method for evaluating hydrogen solubility in water is developed Purified water is exposed to high-pressure hydrogen in a gas-liquid equilibrium cell of approximately 100 cc, and than gaseous component in the water sample of approximately 10 cc is analyzed with quadruple mass spectrometry. The purpose of this study is to establish hydrogen solubility data in water up to 29 MPa and to 75 ℃. Preliminary measurements under low pressure (up to 1 MPa) show that the deviation of measured solubility lies within the range of the estimated uncertainty of measurement. We reveal that the measurement uncertainty of the present method highly depends on the background intensity for hydrogen in the mass spectrometry.

This paper describes the motion analysis of the Japanese bow made from carbon fibers with the linen string for archery. The final target of this study is to establish the realistic relationship between human body and the bow with the string in giving instruction and to propose a suitable text book for players to keep healthy. In this case, a vibration characteristic of the bow with the string is noticed due to experiments and calculations by the Rigid Motion Analysis. The calculation model consists of rigid bodies and rotational springs. When the string of the bow is drawn and released, displacements and vibration characteristics of the upper and lower of the bow are measured by video-camera and calculated by computer. A good coloration between experiments and calculations is taken. It is considered in the next step to make human body models with some kinds of the skeleton.

We developed weight balanced which we calling "Portable Field Arm". The arm has a reach of 3 meters, possesses 5 Degrees of Freedom, and is easily assembled /disassembled. Because of its compact body, it's easy to transfer. It is a multi purpose arm but in this paper we show configuration as a evaluation setup for metal detectors. This paper explains the arm's mechanism and its positioning accuracy.

For the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, we need robot arms which have long and slender shape, wide motion range, and radiation-tolerant system. However, existing robot arms are not capable of satisfying those requirements. In particular, the extremely large torque generated by the arm weight is the most difficult problem in the development of such long and slender arms. Therefore, in order to satisfy those requirements, we propose a new robot arm named "3D CT-Arm". The 3D CT-Arm uses a "coupled tendon drive", in which the all joints are driven by motors located on the base through wires and pulleys, and the all motors support the torque on the base joint. Thus, the 3D CT-Arm can maintain its posture even when it extends the arm horizontally. In this paper, we introduce the concept of 3D CT-Arm and show the design and test of a prototype.

The aim of this study is to improve of stick picture using wearable motion sensor, in order to estimate human joint center and stride. Human joint center was estimated by least square method of sphere and marker points on the human arm were observed by motion analysis system (MAC3D System). First, as a basic experiment, instead of measuring human joint, we made use of a stick which has 490 mm length and two markers were affixed at the end of the stick. Next, it is hard to measure the movement of lower body, we performed an experiment on the movement of arm. As a result, estimated value by sphere method has a higher accuracy than estimated by circle. Finally, gait acceleration value was observed by acceleration sensor. Then, gait acceleration value had coordinate transform toward direction of movement and filtered by low pass filter. After, Gait velocity and acceleration were calibrated to 0 and integrated. In a result, stride was calculated with high accuracy. In this paper, it is shown that estimated stride and value of human joint center were calculated with high accuracy. To summary, these experiments, it is feasible that the accuracy of stick picture using wearable motion sensor is to be improved.

For the purpose of presenting 3D information for tele-operation, a method of displaying motion parallax by measuring only orientation of the operator's head is proposed. Assuming that the operator sits down in front of an object of task and gaze it, the position of its eye is estimated from the orientation of its head measured with an inexpensive sensor.

Viscosity of magnetic fluid changes when an interaction angle between magnetic field and flow vorticity changes. The test shows that viscosity becomes maximum when they cross perpendicularly and becomes minimum when they are parallel. These phenomena were studied theoretically by M. I. Shliomis and W. F. Hall. This paper describes an analysis of the relation between viscosity and the interaction angle from test results and the comparison between that and the theory.

This paper describes the method to measure the displacement of tympanic membrane of the passengers of the high speed elevators and the evaluation of the relationship among the air pressure, behavior of tympanic membrane and ear pressure discomfort. The ear pressure discomfort is caused by the difference of air pressure between the lower floors and the higher floors. For the recent high rise buildings, the effect of ear pressure discomfort is getting much important for the ride comfort of the elevator passengers. The "shape from shading" method is applied to reproduce the displacement of tympanic membrane measured by microscope and high speed video camera. Then the relationship between the displacement and the ear pressure discomfort is evaluated. The result shows that the maximum displacement of tympanic membrane is about 2 mm and it hardly moves much more when an elevator car descends, and then, the ear pressure discomfort is the worst and it is not improved without active opening of the eustachian tube. Additionally, when a car descends, there is no relationship between the displacement of tympanic membrane and the velocity of air pressure change.

It was widely known by the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster at the nuclear power plant that it may be a fatal accident. Since there is possibility of fatal damage, even if it will be unexpected accident, the nuclear power plant disaster must avoid. It consider that in order to correspond to an unexpected accident, the stop based on the definite theory of safety, especially a time concept Moreover, it consider that the safety of a nuclear power plant and the active safety which attains a high operating ratio simultaneously.

Quench cracking and distortion are generally considered to occur under united thermal and transformational stresses. In this paper quench residual stresses were examined by using a S 55 C steel bar. Various polyalkylene glycol (PAG) solutions and oil were prepared for the quench cooling solutions. The micro structure of the test piece was observed with a metallurgical microscope. The residual stresses caused by quenching were measured by Sachs' method. Considerable tensile and compressive stresses existed on the surface and in the center of the steel. The distribution of stresses and the hardness were related to the PAG content and could be explained clearly by the quench cooling rate.
