This paper discusses what has been found and what will be found using conceptual “origami” models to develop deployable space structures. The study covers the following: (i) one-dimensional structural elements, which are axially buckled inflatable tubes; (ii) two-dimensional elements, which are deployable membranes, such as solar arrays and solar sails; and (iii) deployable elements in nature. The study clarifies what design considerations are necessary to adapt the basic concepts to actual space structural hardware, and several limitations of origami models are discussed. Regarding the last subject, this study envisions future space structures using conceptual origami models that imitate three-dimensional deployable structures in nature, such as flowers and insect wings.

This paper proposes a simple relation of the lateral guidance mechanism for automatic guided vehicles and Dual Mode Trucks, and named it SSM (Sensor Steering Mechanism). SSM consists of a guide bar and deceleration gear which reduces the bar angle to one-second. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of this relation, this paper examines the stability of the dynamic behavior of the front wheel steering of the vehicle. These results show that there is no Iimitation of the moving speed unless without a slip of the tire. For the test, a self-standing mobile robot, reduced to a scale of one twentieth of the real car, is developed. Experimental results show that high-speed automatic moving is realized by using this relation.

A rest room is required in comfortable living space. So this paper describes the improvement of sound quality of toilet flushing sound. An acrylic board model is made for taking a picture of the flushing mechanism by a high-speed video camera. It is found that the flushing sound generates broken bubble in water current, and the frequency characteristics of the sound depend on the size of the bubble. The relationship between sound pressure level of the flushing sound and sound quality is investigated by comparing with the bubble shape.

It is important to the scaffold with honeycomb structure for tissue engineering because of shortage of donors. In recently, scaffold made of segmented polyurethane (SPU) has been investigated as a new scaffold's material. However, surface condition of the scaffold must be modified by any process because the SPU is not enough for biocompatibility. To solve this problem, Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) films, with much attractive properties such as biocompatibility, chemical stability and anti-corrosion, are fabricated on the scaffold with honeycomb structure. The samples were evaluated by scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and contact angle measured. The biocompatibility of the samples has been estimated using the mouth fibroblasts (NIH-3T3) cells in the D-MEM solution while 4 days. These analyses show that the DLC coating on scaffold with honeycomb structure is expected for surface finishing treatment with biocompatibility.

著者は以前従来のネゲントロビの定義を変更してエントロビ差による定義を提案したが,これは孤立系に基づくもので,一般の状況下にある系に適用するには更に定義の変更が必要になる.本報ではKullback-Leiblerの情報量による定義を提案し,これによるネゲントロビが正値性や非平衡性,仕事の可能性を表すことを示し,さらにエクセルギを導くことを見た.拡張されたネゲントロビは,その一部として拡張前の懸念を含んでいる.

The capacity of negentropy is the maximum negentropy that a system can have. For example, the negentropy contained by a cylinder-piston system becomes larger as the piston is moved inward, but practically it has a maximum, namely, the capacity of negentropy. Generally, capacity represents a certain type of macroscopic order (capacity-type of order) which comes from the relation between molecules, and without this type of order, negentropy cannot beheld by a system. Capacity-type of order is regarded as a pattern which has the property of recovering its origin in thermodynamic situations, and the order may be destroyed by negentropy which exceeds the capacity. Although nonequilibrium-type of order, which is represented by negentropy, differs from the capacity-type of order, they are intimately related with each other. The general definition of the capacity is made in a statistical-mechanical manner based on negentropy defined by Kullback-Leibler information.

We are developing a train communication and control network "INTEROS", which adopts the Ethernet transmission technologies and has the ability of high-capacity data transmission for a next-generation railway operation system. This paper describes characteristics of the present train's transmission line in order to clarify the problems and to develop new transmission lines which are suitable for the Ethernet transmission.

For the purpose of investigating the macroscopic and microscopic elastoplastic deformation behavior of two-phase composites : W-Ni-Fe alloys, the constitutive relations of W-Ni-Fe alloy and its microconstituents were measured by the Hopkinson pressure bar testing and usual compression testing, and then the elastoplastic deformation behavior of W-Ni-Fe alloys in uniaxial compression was analyzed using the micromechanics-based analysis method. The main conclusions are summarized as follows ; (1) The work hardening tendency of W-Ni-Fe alloy is in keeping with that of pure tungsten particle phase which is B.C.C. metal. (2) Measured flow stresses of W-Ni-Fe alloy under high strain rate loading are smaller than analyzed ones, due to local failure in the matrix phase of W-Ni-Fe alloy. (3) The compressive residual stresses in the particle phase are produced at the cooling stage in sintering. (4) The micromechanics-based analysis method can precisely analyze the elastoplastic deformation behavior of two-phase composites until large deformation.

Numerical simulations are effective approach for the safety design of machines and structures subjected to impact loading and the investigation of impact phenomena. Dynamic mechanical properties which accurately model the response of materials to impact loading are necessary for such numerical simulations. In this research, the equation of state and failure criteria are measured by plate impact testing, and then the accuracy of these measured dynamic mechanical properties is evaluated based on numerical simulation results. Followings are useful information obtained. (1) The equation of state and failure criteria measured by plate impact testing are sufficiently accurate for numerical simulations. (2) Pure W which is the brittle metal, follows stress-dependent failure criterion. (3) W-Ni-Fe alloys which are the ductile metals, follow time-dependent failure criterion. (4) W-Ni-Fe alloy has the lower critical value for spall failure than its matrix phase. (5) The failure strains of W-Ni-Fe alloys depend on the state of stress.

This paper compares two path-tracking control procedures, one using the steering angle as the control input and the other using steering torque as the input. This comparison will make clear the characteristics of both approaches. While steering angle control provides superior robustness, the control system configuration does not allow the driver to intervene in the steering process. In contrast, steering torque control provides some degree of freedom for allowing the driver to steer even during the control process, thus offering the potential for the provision of a steering assist mechanism.

エンジンのシリンダ内圧力, 正味トルク, クランク角速度からサイクル内摩擦トルク変化を計測することを試みた. これに必要な高精度角速度計, および多気筒のシリンダ内圧力と回転数を同時に時系列に記録できる解析装置, 両者を開発した. これらを用いた実験から, この方法は従来の平均値のみの計測よりも多くの知見が得られることおよび駆動系のねじり振動解析におけるエンジン減衰係数の測定にも利用できることがわかった.

Direct numerical simulations (DNS) have been conducted for the heat transfer in pseudo-turbulence induced by small contaminated bubbles. The void fraction ranges from 1.5% to 9.0%. Air bubbles with a diameter of 500μm, are considered. We imposed a constant temperature gradient in the vertical or horizontal directions. Computational results show that the heat transfer in the case of vertical temperature gradient is highly enhanced by a bubble in pseudo-turbulence. With the increase in void fraction, the heat transfer is attenuated in the case of vertical gradient while the heat transfer is enhanced in the case of horizontal gradient.

Reactor power uprate of nuclear power plants is an efficient plant operating method. Most BWR plants need the exchange of high pressure turbines when plant thermal power increases over 5% because main steam flow rate exceeds the limitation of inlet steam flow rate of a high pressure turbine. Therefore, the new power uprate method named heat balance shift power uprate method has been developed. This method decreases feedwater temperature with increasing plant thermal power not to increase main steam flow rate. This study clarified that the heat balance shift method could increase plant electric power up to 2.8% compared with conventional power uprate method without the exchange of a high pressure turbine.

Bayesian network is the is one of the probabilistic graphical models that represents a set of random variables and their conditional dependencies via a directed acyclic graph. In this study, Bayesian network is applied for the stock price forecast. The present method classifies stock price into three situations; normal value, positive and negative outliers. Different networks are defined by data in three situations in order to forecast the stock price. The effectiveness of the present method is discussed in the numerical example.
