This paper analyses phonological errors in kanji reading tests. Errors involved the mora geminate, mora nasal and voiced consonants, as well as vowel shortening and vowel lengthening. In a listening comprehension test focussing on phonological length, a tendency was found, especially in initially accented words, to shorten long vowels in the last syllable. By contrast, vowel lengthening occurs especially in unaccented words. It also appears that palatalized sounds affect learners' perception of length contrasts.

In this study, we shows that synthetic uses of Korean expressions corresponding to Japanese "youda", "rashii" and "si-souda, is related with synthetic function by comparing corresponding relations between Japanese "youda", "rashii", "si-souda" and the Korean. These corresponding Korean expressions are "-kes kath-ta" and "-tusha-ta" in sentence conjunction and adnominal form except for sentence-final expressions. Sentence-final expressions, which are limited by the position, are followed to synthetic uses, while "youda" and "si-souda" commonly correspond to the Korean "-kes kath-ta" since it is used as subjective and objective synthetic information comparing to deductive "rashii" on the basis of subjective hearsay information, and deductive "rashii" on the basis of objective hearsay information corresponds to "-moyangi-ta"

本稿は、一段活用動詞の可能動詞化について、日本語教育でどのように取り扱うかを考察したものである。日本人の学生を対象に行なった実態調査の結果、「見る」「着る」「起きる」などの動詞は可能動詞化が進んでいる一方、「居る」「教える」「比べる」などの動詞は「られる」を使用する割合が高いことがわかった。またこれまでの日本語教育においては、規範的な文法に従い、一段活用動詞の可能動詞を認めない立場のものや、使用頻度の高い一段活用動詞のみを提示するもの、一段活用動詞の可能動詞だけを提示するものなどがあり、取り扱いがまちまちであることがわかった。

Some practitioner studies of Japanese pronunciation teaching don't describe the practice in detail. Thus, in this study, emotional experiences and discoveries, and themes which I'd like to consult or discuss with others were extracted from videos of my pronunciation teaching practice utilizing self-monitoring. It's a result, it was able to separate the practices from the contexts and provide only the superficial activities. On the other hand, there are limitation in trying to provide the background and activities fully in a one-way report. How to further describe the practice should be considered in the future.

The author implemented Japanese language classes for international students at university using cases with the objective of developing their ability to find and resolve problems. Here, cases refer to teaching materials that write on the circumstances surrounding issues and the emotions of the people concerned in story form. Analyses were made of recordings of group and class discussions. As a result, these discussions prompted the students to deepen their understanding and thinking with regard to the cases used while helping them recognize the perspectives of others and accept differing opinions and ideas.

The paper reports and examines a design of oral presentation & discussion class in order to promote interaction. In the class that train academic speaking skill such as oral presentation and discussion I realized that it is more difficult to improve discussion skill than academic presentation skill. To solve the problem, I designed and practiced the class based on social constructivism. Social constructivists view learning as a social process and individuals create meaning through their interactions with each other and with the environment they live in.

留学や技術研修の目的で一定期間日本語教育プログラムに参加する学習者は、特に漢字の学習にかなりの困難を感じる。(1)短い期間に集中的に学習せざるを得ないこと(2)学習方法が日本人とは異なること、などが代表的な問題である。このためには、(1)授業の復習を支援し、その中で漢字の用例などの情報が必要に応じて入手できること、(2)漢字の形、音訓、その意味するところを覚えるだけではなく、熟語や漢字で表現される語句、ひいては文中での使い方までも含めた学習を視聴覚を利用して支援できること、が必要である。本稿では、学習者が教室で使用する教科書に従って復習でき、必要な関連情報を随時手に入れることができるような目的を持つ漢字学習システムの構想について報告する。

Sentences written by students for self-promotion in job application forms (entry sheets) to companies are analyzed. Implicit patterns and common expressions in the forms are investigated. The genre analysis (Swales, 1990) reveals the following components in student's essays on their past efforts. The moves are (1) answers, (2) episodes, and (3) applications. The steps of move (1) are (i) title and (ii) answer. Move (2) comprises (i) setting, (ii) goal, (iii) difficulty, (iv) reason, (v) attempt, and (vi) outcome. The steps of move (3) are (i) state, (ii) usefulness, (iii) appear, and (iv) hope.

"The original songs" are useful for learning Japanese. You can memorize important words and grammar from lyrics with Japanese accent and rhythm. This study examined the effect of "Odotte samba" on the acquisition of te-form accent. The participants took a pre-test and two post-tests of their ability to tell the difference of te-form accent. An experimental group was taught te-form accent along with a melody, whereas a control group was not exposed to the melody. The study results suggested a tendency between the 2 groups on their delayed recognition, but no difference on their immediate recognition.

Setsunan University and Osaka Institute of Technology offer a five-weeks intensive training program in which Japanese and the "Monozukuri" management course are taught. This program is designed for Thai students majoring in industrial management from their home universities. This paper discusses about the development of a textbook designed for the first three weeks of the training program held at Setsunan University. The aims of the program are (1) to improve students' basic communication skills in Japanese, (2) to teach students to understand various warnings, (3) to teach students to understand the terminology and kanji to be used in the "Monozukuri" management course.

In order to develop an education method to increase vocabulary effectively by acquiring both on-yomi and kun-yomi, measurement of the ability of transformation between kango and on-yomi, kun-yomi, Korean has been performed. The results showed that the transformation ability from kango to Korean, and from on-yomi to Korean are rather high, whereas from Korean to kango and kun-yomi ability was low.

In this study a researcher considered how the Japanese teaching materials took up sports. As to the textbooks of the beginner's class level, many differences were seen in sporting events and in the terms depending on the textbooks. The textbooks for the intermediate and the advanced classes did not take up so much sports. And the researcher introduced the example of the class using the newspaper article about sports (Tokyo marathon).

This paper will introduce a web-based learning system developed to support the learning of Japanese notation. While directing the learner to the correct character string, the materials provide effective feedback on the word or word portion that the learner entered based on the illustration or audio provided. Through this, it supports self-directed, conscious learning. The system is also responsive to a wide range of learning, such as for vocabulary, dictation, verb conjugation, and Kanji readings. Further, it allows the learner to freely set the presentation of questions to fit with their goals and level.

The objective of this study is to analyse how viewpoint expressions in Japanese, such as passive sentences, giving and receiving expressions, are used by Thai learners. Therefore, 10 Thai learners were given a writing task to narrate the story shown in 10-panel comic strip, which was designed to include scenes that viewpoint expressions could be used. As a result, though usage of viewpoint expressions, especially giving and receiving expressions, was observed, Thai learners' viewpoints were frequently changed, which consequently made their narrations difficult to comprehend.

Students need the ability to form agreements with others when they go out into society so it's important to practice. We adopted the format of group discussion used in many employment examinations of drawing group conclusions. Integrating and organizing techniques to bring together each participant's opinions are necessary. As a result of practice, students were able to reach a conclusion within a limited time. Group discussion cultivated logical thinking, required to make a personal opinion and achieve consensus. I would like to propose the adoption of such practice.

This report looks at the instruction of second-year university foreign students as part of Japanese language training. Resumes must logically summarize a text. Writing one entails listing points, classifying them, processing, comparing, identifying causal relationships, and comprehension. Advantages for learner-acceptance: a) strong incentive to present well in year 3, b) less effort than that for theses or reports, c) comparison of their resume with others', to easily identify their own weaknesses. We see the following as necessary for resume writing: 1) reading comprehension - understand each point and its relative importance, 2) logical organization - for structure, 3) the ability to list points concisely.

The current study examined how native-speaking teachers of Japanese modify their listening behavior when they interact with learners. Teachers' aizuchi directed toward native speakers and advanced-level learners were compared with respect to frequency and discourse functions. It was found that there were no clear differences in frequency but teachers tended to produce no response in an attempt to understand learners' utterances.
