Myths about unknown islands always fascinated island people. The most famous example is the Odyssey. The Odyssey was introduced to Japan in the middle of the sixteenth century by the Jesuits and gave birth to a story named the Nobleman Yuriwaka. Probably influenced by this story, another voyage story, the Voyage of Yoshitsune to the Island of Yezo, was created. The hero of the story is Minamoto no Yoshitsune. His tragic, untimely death made Yoshitsune one of the most popular legendary figures in Japanese history. Many stories have been created about him and this story is one of them. In this paper, the story will be explained and then a comparison with other voyage stories will be given.

In my 2015 paper, I recommended that Yōkai Studies could benefit from international research into paranormal phenomena. This paper is a companion to that one. "Chronology of the Edo Period" is a chronology of events in Edo from 1590 to 1873. Many mysterious aerial phenomena were recorded in this chronology. This paper attempts to internationalize Yōkai Studies. It examines the aerial phenomena mentioned in "Chronology of the Edo Period" from the viewpoint of Ufology. The descriptions in the chronology are fragmentary, but, by applying Ufology, it is possible to compare cases. Now more than ever, Yōkai Studies should make use of Ufology, not keep its distance from it. For example, a picture of many UFOs flying over a nuclear power plant in Fukushima at the time of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami was covered by overseas media. Judging this information from the viewpoint of Ufology, it is possible to understand such a phenomenon.

ドイツのBavariaにある養魚池群のオオヨシキリ個体群において一夫多妻繁殖のいくつかの側面について調査した。18年間に得られた、少なくとも片親が色足環で個体識別されている428巣の記録を分析の対象とした。 対象となった雄の数の15年間の平均は30羽/年で、そのうち11.3%は一夫多妻、13.9%は独身だった。 一夫多妻の第一巣では第二雌の巣よりも10日早く産卵が始まった(Fig.1)。 繁殖結果の統計値をTable1にまとめた。第二雌の巣立ち雛数は一夫一妻雌よりも低かったが(相対成功度は0.79)、同時期に一夫一妻だった雌とは有意に異ならなかった(相対成功度は0.85)。繁殖集団に加わることのできた巣立ち雛の割合は第一雌の雛がもっとも高かったが、一夫一妻の雛と第二雌の雛とでは有意差はなかった。したがって、一夫多妻のいき値モデルを排除することはできない。 雄の配偶ステータスには年齢が影響し、年長の雄がより高い割合で一夫多妻になる(Fig.2)。年齢と雌の配偶ステータスとには有意な相関はなかった(Fig.3)。雄の最年長記録は11歳、雌は10歳だった。 雌による配偶者選択における雄の質となわばりの質との相対的な重要性を知るために、29雄(一夫多妻4羽、一夫一妻22羽、独身3羽)を対象に、判別分析を用いて3種類のなわばりの特徴と11種類の雄の特徴(身体的な形質、年齢、さえずりのレパートリー数、攻撃性、ホルモンレベル)を分析した。一夫多妻を予測するもっとも有効な基準となるのは、開水域に面したヨシ原の縁が長いこと、攻撃性が弱いこと、さえずりのレパートリー数が多いことであった(Table2,Fig.4のaxis1)。第二の判別軸に沿っては3群の雄が十分に分離されていないが、この軸は若齢、短い翼と総排泄腔突起、レパートリー数の少なさおよび黄体形成ホルモン(LH)のレベルが低いことを表している。ヨシ原の縁の長さは営巣場所としてだけでなく、採食生態上も重要なのかもしれない。一夫多妻雄の攻撃性の低さは、それらが早い時期に渡来することとテストステロンのレベルの季節的減退によって説明できるだろう。 結論は次の3点である。(1)一夫多妻が生じることの説明を、以前の論文で支持された「だまし仮説」に求める必要は必ずしもない。(2)本調査地は一夫多妻のための生態的条件に関して最適な場所とは言えないが(不自然に多い魚のために餌供給が抑えられている、一夫多妻の頻度もやや低い、1雄とつがう雌数が2羽を越えることはほとんどない、雛の餓死がやや頻繁に生じる)、雌による積極的な配偶者選択を可能にするのには十分な、繁殖条件の予測可能な差異が存在するようだ。(3)雌は雄の特徴となわばりの質の両方を基に配偶者を選んでおり、雄•なわばり双方の要因には正の相関がある。
