The objective of this study was to qualitatively examine and conceptualize a model of the development of ability in the performance process. This qualitative research study was based on the research question, “How do performers narrate the process when they develop the ability to do something?” Data were collected observations and introspective reports from 8 performers who had learned to juggling for the first time and were analyzed using the Trajectory Equifinality Model. Results showed that performers slowly developed a sensuous understanding about the exercise task because they sought to perform better. Moreover, performers developed the ability to complete the task because of their improved sensuous understanding. That is to say, performers’ narration of the process of ability development reflects a qualitative shift resulting from an understanding of oneself through repeated “self-regulation”and “over-adjustment” .The following three points are also discussed: 1) The knack of ability development in performance, 2) They were confronted with their personality implied at qualitative shift, 3) The meaning of “stagnant performance” during task achievement.

The purposes of this study were ①to clarify the psychological transformation process through cheering activities based on the narrative of a reserve college student athlete engaged in team cheering activities, and②to present the hypothetical knowledge which represent the significance of cheering activities and contribute to better sports fields. A semi-structured interview was conducted with one reserve college student athlete to explore how he had recognized cheering activities. Data were analyzed using the Qualitative Synthesis Method.A schematic diagram of the psychological transformation process of the reserve college student athlete was generated based on the 13 labels gathered through the analysis. The following four outcomes were derived from the schematic diagram: 1) the promotion of psychological maturity by adapting to the psychological conflict caused by cheering activities, 2) the possibility that collective cohesion and collective efficacy improved through cheering activities, 3) the probability that cheering activities could be an opportunity to develop sports selfmanagement skills, and 4) the visualization of the psychological transformation process of the reserve college student athlete through the cheering activities. These outcomes are expected to contribute to maintaining the motivation of reserve college student athletes and promoting their participation in cheering activities, improving the team feeling, and their psychological maturity through cheering activities.

Using a qualitative approach, the present study of college soccer players (N=9) was conducted to clarify the psychological impact of scoring or losing points in additional time (AT). The participants had all played in official games in which their teams had scored or lost points in AT. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect narrative data, which were then analyzed by applying the Modified Grounded Theory Approach. The results suggested that before points had been scored or lost in AT, the players were in an unstable psychological state as they reached their mental and physical limits, and used emotion to evaluate their situational superiority or inferiority. In the case of scoring points, this situation created an intensified urge to become aggressive in order to maintain the team's superiority, encouraging the players to attack more strongly. On the other hand, in the case of losing points, this situation triggered an impulsive urge to defend excessively and become passive, trying to defend the goal further while becoming subordinate to the opposing team. Based on the major findings of this research, 3 points were discussed: 1) the psychological state before scoring or losing points in AT, 2) the psychological state when scoring or losing points in AT, and 3) the metamotivational state of players in AT.

Introduction: "Kids Project" is a project which started from 2003 by the Japan FootballAssociation (JFA) and its purpose is to support kids to like sports and also to learn socialskills through playing sports. Biwako Seikei Sports College(BSSC) started this project at thesame time that JFA did. Student coaches who are certified as JFA Kids' Leaders visitkindergartens in Otsu city, and instruct kids to do physical activities such as soccer, tag, andso on. Kids learn social skills such as rules, responsibility, team work, and fair play. Since BSSCstarted this project, it has become in creasingly popular in the community year by year. Fromthe year of 2005, evaluation of the project has been carried out at the end of every year. Thisstudy was to investigate the result of "Kids' Project" by analyzing the end term evaluationfrom 2005 to 2007 and to clarify problems that need to be resolved to provide a betterprogram in the future. Design: The number of kindergartens that participated into doing theend term evaluation was 18 in 2005, 30 in 2006, and 27 in 2007. The age range of subjects was3 to 5 years old. The evaluation form consisted of two types of questions. One is a 4-pointsgradingsystem to a provided question "Are contents of the program appropriate for yourkids?" In this grading system, 1 means "it suits very well" and 4 means "it does not suit atall". The other is a free comment for requests to coaches. In the evaluation of 2007, extraquestions were added. The extra questions were "Any behavioral change in a group?" and"Any behavioral change in the individual? Answers for these questions were chosen from oneof 4 comments, A: I strongly agree, B: I agree, C: I disagree, and D: I strongly disagree. Result:The average point of the 4-point-grading system to the question" Are contents of the programappropriate to your kids?" is 1.76 in 2005, 1.76 in 2006, and 1.81 in 2007. The major comment forrequests to coaches in 2005 was" Coaches were very polite to kids" for good and" We need apreliminary meeting at the beginning of the year." for bad. The major comment for requests tocoaches in 2006 was "Coaches became very close to kids and kids like the coaches" for goodand "Coaches need to show a better approach to handicapped kids." for bad. Major commentfor request to coaches in 2007 was "Coaches' approach to handicapped kids was very good."for good and "Coaches visit our kindergarten more often." for bad. Answers for the question"Any behavioral change in a group?" were 3 of A, 16 of B, 5 of C, 0 of D, and 3 of no comment.Answers for the question "Any behavioral change in the individual?" were 4 of A, 16 of B, 5for C, 0 of D, and 2 of no comment. Conclusion: Since a high average score in the gradingsystem in each year were reported, it is clarified that this project suits kids who are under theage of 6. Also, it is clear that kids are able to learn social skills through this project.

The purposes of this study were to analyze the process of ego identity reconfirmation in the athletic retirement, to identify the roles of anticipatory socialization and time perspective in the process, and to examine the effect of retiring experience for the middle-age crisis. Subjects were two former Olympians who had experienced the middle-age crisis. Several semi-structured interviews were done to each of them. The following 3 points were suggested. 1) Four stages were found in the process of ego identity reconfirmation in the athletic retirement; I: the onset of taking account of his/her athletic retirement, II: reconsideration of his/her life as an athlete and choosing his/her course toward athletic retirement, III: transition from athletic activity, : active commitment into his/her workplace. 2) Anticipatory socialization encouraged to transfer to the next stage of life, and time perspective was a major indicator for the degree of resolution of the developmental tasks in ego identity reconfirmation. 3) Unresolved tasks with ego identity reconfirmation on the athletic retirement were brought up again in middle age
