The full-digital audio amplifiers are advantageous with the points of its high power efficiency and its possibility of high fidelity due to the digital signal processing. With the full-digital amplifier, class-D amplifiers are used to drive the load with PWM signals produced from the source signal. Unfortunately, the signals are distorted when the PCM signals are converted to the PWM signals because the pulse-width modulation is a nonlinear conversion from the viewpoint of transient responses. This paper proposes a way to compensate the distortion caused by the pulse-width modulation. A feedforward compensation approach is used because of the simplicity of implementation. The distortion components are estimated with the source signals and its time-derivative signals and used to cancel out them by subtracting them from the source signals. A numerical example with two-tone test is performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The distortion compensation scheme used here may be applicative to other applications.

An NRD guide pulse radar front-end was fabricated for level sensor applications at 60 GHz. Main emphasis was placed on circuit configuration. Typically, an oscillation power is divided by a junction circuit and is introduced into two parts. One is for transmitting wave, and the other is for LO wave to perform hetero-dyne detection. The frequency of the former is up-converted so as to be different from the frequency of the LO wave, and thus, a power amplifier is installed in the transmitting side due to low output power of the up-converted millimeter-wave. In this paper, we proposed a new circuit configuration, which consists of a Gunn oscillator with two output ports to eliminate a junction circuit, a direct pulse-modulator to obtain a high level transmitting power without an expensive millimeter-wave power amplifier, and a filter-based down-converter with an up-converter as a local oscillator.<br>Range finding was performed by using the NRD guide pulse radar, however multi-reflection occurred between a target and a planar antenna due to a pencil beam radiation of our developing planar antenna, so that precise distance estimation could not be performed for short range detection. With this in mind, an FPGA-based signal processor was developed in order to eliminate such multi-reflection. The sequential sampling method was employed to reduce experimental errors, which were investigated in terms of difference of periods between a modulated pulse train and a sequential sampling clock. The error of range finding was successfully reduced to be less than 2 % for the distance range from 2 m to 10 m under multi-reflection environment.

The purpose of this study is to improve the accuracy of automatic HTML generation from web page design images. pix2code is the state of art in this field. It is consist of design image learning part by CNN and HTML learning part by LSTM. We propose three improvements of adding a word embedding layer, applying VGG16 fine tuning to CNN, replacing LSTM to Bidirectional LSTM or GRU, and introducing attention mechanism. In the experiment, we employed a conventional data set which was used in pix2code and evaluated by a standard natural language generation metric called BLEU. As the results, the one of proposed models that contained the word embedding layer and the attention mechanism scored the accuracy of 99%. It overcomes the result of state of art scored 88%.

Various methods to predict stock prices have been studied. In a linked paper, we propose a stock price prediction method that applies DTW on scaled daily stock price patterns. We showed its performance using TOPIX data. In this paper, we further analyze the effectiveness of the proposed method using other price indexes, such as the S&P 500, CAC40, DAX, FTSE100, foreign exchange rates, and Cryptocurrency. This paper also reports the importance of pattern length and starting points of patterns. We also discuss the hidden behavior of investors which seems to explain the prediction ability of the proposed method.

Emergent emotions under gustatory stimuli was quantitatively evaluated with the facial skin thermogram. The nasal skin temperature was correlated with the subjective emotional status measured by the visual analogue scale. Transition to unpleasant status was inhibited with sweet gastatory stimulus.

In this paper, we propose an efficient method of technical structure analysis of FPGA development using network analysis. Recently, with the reform of the industrial structure called “Industry 4.0” and the explosive expansion of the application area of AI (Artificial Intelligence), the demand for computing power in edge devices is increasing. For these backgrounds, the acceleration by FPGA is focused on the industry. Hence, in this paper, we analyze the technology development trends of a significant FPGA supplier. As analytical data, we employ patents obtained by the company in the U.S. We focus on the classifiers in the patent information. We create graphs by classifiers and analyze their clusters. From the results of extracting graph features by the proposed method, key technology areas and their transitions are revealed in the technology development of FPGA suppliers.

<p>In order to help people with disabilities of the upper extremities drink and eat, a simulator for self-feeding assistive robotic arm using solving method of inverse kinematics has been developed in this paper. Using inverse kinematics equations of 7 degrees of freedom (DOF) with an arm angle parameter, the robotic arm model was implemented in the simulator and its controller with mouse device was also designed. The arm angle parameter defined the angle between the arm plane and a reference plane was used to resolve the robotic arm redundancy. Three able-bodied persons participated in simulation experiments. They manipulated the robotic arm model in a virtual space using mouse device. It was found from the simulation results they successfully performed the drinking and eating tasks in our simulator.</p>

Speckle reduction method for laser diode based displays was newly proposed. The method was based on temporal change of the active layer temperature which could be controlled by optimizing the driving condition of the laser diode under pulse. The red LD consisted of AlGaInP has low thermal conductivity and small energy difference between the active layer and the cladding one in the conduction band, resulting in the large temporal change of the lasing spectrum under the adequate driving condition in pulse. It indicates the speckle contrast could be controlled by changing the condition. The speckle contrast dependence on the driving condition of the high-power 638-nm lateral single mode laser diode was experimentally studied. In the experiment, not only the conventional square waveform but also the saw one were used. The speckle contrast under the adequate conditions for both waveforms was reduced approximately 25% compared with that under CW. In particular, the saw one might be expected as a very robust driving condition for the speckle reduction. This can be used with other speckle reduction method such as moving screen, moving diffuser and so on. In this sense, the newly proposal may be the speckle reduction method for “last one mile”.

In model-based development in the automotive industry, functional tests are performed using models made by CAE tools. The model needs to reproduce some physical properties of the target system correctly. The previous research of the current authors proposes energy balanced based verification (EBBV) that verifies the correctness of the model focused on the energy conservation law. EBBV confirms the balance of input and output energy of the model from output information of the model. In this paper, we develop three tools to automate EBBV processes. Also, we make a modeling guideline suitable for EBBV, which is composed of tagging and a hierarchical model structure. Through numerical experiments, we check that three tools automate EBBV processes for models according to the modeling guideline. The target model of the experiments is a mild hybrid electric vehicle model made by MATLAB/Simulink, MapleSim, and CarMaker.

Waveform distortion of logic signal, by accelerating clock speed and improving implementation density, makes non-linear output for the input and has been giving behavioral problem to electronic system. There are overshoot type, hysteresis type, and undershoot type for transient waveform distortion. Deep undershoot could cause latchup for CMOS logic IC, data destruction for DRAM, pulse split for TTL IC, respectively. Undershoot of logic signal is not discussed only by transient phenomena (time domain ) but also by filter theory ( frequency domain). Time sequential resistance R variation by output circuit impedance variation causes such time domain variations as damping constant α and damping coefficient ζ. While resistance R variation causes Q variation in frequency domain. In this paper, an occurrence mechanism is shown that undershoot occurs when parasitic series resonance circuits are composed at load side of driving device and damping coefficient ζ varies time sequentially for totempole or complimentary circuits. PSpice simulation suggests that undershoot is reduced by controlling the phase of punch through current.

User support by a computer is desired for creating computer graphics. Automatic generation of moving human crowd is one of such demands. The feature of human crowd is that the behavior of each figure is independent, but the crowd, as a huge mass of it, has a pattern as a whole. It is too troublesome if the user inputs the all coordinates data of this behavior. This paper describes the modelling method using chaos and electric charge model. Chaos is convenient to represent such features. Electric charge model can represent the detail of each figure's movement.

An immediate evacuation is essential for safety when a big earthquake and a tsunami occurred. For example, Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 killed over 10 thousand people and over 90 percent of them drowned by the tsunami, that is, people who failed to escape from the tsunami after the earthquake occurred got losses by it. If they evacuated immediately after an earthquake, it would be possible that the losses could be limited. In this study, we analysis text-based information expression on a mobile device to induce immediate evacuation. We implemented an application which provides disaster information on a smartphone, and compare text expression about information of tsunami height, arrival time of tsunami, an expected number of evacuees, damage of buildings and so on. The results of the comparison verification show the sentence based on damage of building using fear-arousing communication is the most effective to induce evacuation in this study. However, in over seventies, the effectiveness of the sentence is less than half.

GPS is widely used to obtain not only the position information but also the time information. Specially, it is used to synchronize the time between separate stations in the measurement system or the communications system. However, in these systems, the output circuit of the 1PPS signal in the GPS receiver has not been optimized. In this paper, we examine the error sources of the time measurement by GPS and show the time measurement accuracy is about 10 ns, and the improvement of the precision of 1PPS signal is most important to realize high accurate 1PPS signal. We propose the precise 1PPS generating method by the analog circuit whose output precision is sufficiently higher than the time measurement accuracy by GPS. We evaluated the time measurement accuracy and the accuracy of 1PPS signal in the relative time synchronization by 24 hours test, and succeeded to realize a few ns precision and several ns accuracy of 1PPS signal in the relative time synchronization using our precise 1PPS generating method.

Reverse conducting thyristors are analyzed using a two-dimensional simulator to investigate the effects of substrate types, P-type or N-type, on transient characteristics. The ramp currents with four kinds of rise-time are applied to the thyristors. The thyristor with a P-type substrate shows faster turn-on time and lower clamping-voltage change than that of an N-substrate for the applied ramp currents. The excellent transient response to the P-type substrate thyristor is caused by the accelerated carrier, which results from the high electric field appearing in the P-base region.

Polyamic acid thin film was electrodeposited on metal foil using the solution containing triethyl-ammonium salt of polyamic acid dissolved in mixed solvent of DMF and methanol. The polyamic acid thin film was continuously imidized to form polyimide dielectric thin film, on which polypyrrole was polymerized as another electrode. Characteristics of this polyimide thin film as a dielectric is similar to that of polyimide film formed by spin coating technique. Applying this method to etched aluminium foil, small size film capacitor which has large capacitance and excellent characteristics was proposed.

Recently, the spread of Web cameras has facilitated video-conferencing as a means of communication. Since a Web camera is usually located outside the display while the user looks at his/her partner in the display, there is a problem that they cannot establish eye contact with each other. Various methods have been proposed to solve this problem, but most of them required specific sensors, and robust and accurate feature extraction for various appearances to densely associate facial feature points of the images. In this paper, we propose a method that transforms the eye areas to synthesize eye contact using a single camera that is commonly implemented in laptop computers. Concretely, we implemented a system which transforms the user's eye areas in an image to his/her eye image with a straight gaze to the camera only when the user's gaze falls in a range that the partner would perceive eye contact. We then confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of accuracy of the gaze area classification, subjective evaluation score for eye contact, and accuracy of eye contact through experiments.
