<p>In this study, we investigated the relation between autism spectrum tendencies of normal observers and evaluation of facial emotional expressions, used for "Ban Dainagon Emaki". Recognition of facial expressions was verified by Scheffé's (Nakaya) paired comparison method using the evaluation attributes of the four emotions (fear, anger, sadness, and happiness) in conjunction with investigation of the Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ). Different cognitive patterns especially extracted from communication ability, were confirmed, comparing facial expression recognition tendencies for the two groups, higher levels of autistic - like traits and lower levels of autistic - like traits. Between the two groups, the high levels on the AQ were difficult to recognize the fear of negative emotions, but regarding the happiness of positive emotion, similar tendency was demonstrated. These results are consistent with the findings obtained from previous studies on the tendency of facial expression recognition between healthy individuals and those with traits of ASD.</p>

The purpose of this study is that systems, which offer the music suitable for feelings of the user who is not only a room but also acting outdoors, are constructed. In this paper, it is tried that user's situations and activities, user's feelings and musical genres are related. Genres of music were chosen six genres of the pop music generally listened to well. And, rhythms with the feature of each genre were extracted, and 11 sample music only of the rhythm were made. Next, Kansei evaluation experiments were done to activity in seven situations including outdoor and indoor environments, and acquired data was analyzed by the correspondence analysis. The relation between the “place and action - feeling” and “musical genres” was shown as a result of obtaining. Also, we tried to construct a simple evaluation system using obtained result, and effectiveness was confirmed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of clothing pressure on physiological and psychological responses, to create an evaluating method of the clothing comfort. We have investigated the physiological and psychological responses to the clothing pressure in both situations which eyes open and eyes closed. The pressure amounting to 90% of the subjects' waist size was applied to their abdominal region by the waist belt. The influence of clothing pressure on physiological and psychological responses were evaluated by the following measurements: sensory test, electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram and blood pressure. Consequently, when subjects were fastened by waist belt, sympathetic nerve activity increased in case of eyes closed. On the other hand, parasympathetic nerve activity increased in case of eyes open. The physiological and psychological responses are different in eyes closed and eyes open conditions. The results mean that the clothing comfort on the pressure requires a sensory multimodality evaluation.

The eyes play a crucial role in defining the person's impression. However, there are still few studies of evaluation for the impressions of eye's form including the curve of bilateral upper eyelid. Thus, the aims of our study were to analyze and systematize the curve of bilateral upper eyelid using images of 100 Japanese subjects' eyes. Consequently, we classified the curves of males into 5 clusters and females into 6 clusters. Additionally, our study clarified the relationship between the impressions of masculine/feminine and the eye's form elements that consisted of the curves systematized the ratio of the width to height, etc. Concretely, we made 70 subjects to evaluate samples assembled with the eye's form elements by using design experiment. As a result of analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of main effects, we clarified that the bilateral upper eyelid were important form elements affecting the person's impression of masculine/feminine.

In this paper, we propose an attribute added face image generation system using Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (DCGANs). Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) can extract important features of an image and attain high precision in image classification tasks. In the proposed system, image features are extracted using CNNs, and attribute features added to image features, and attributes added images are generated by DCGANs. Specifically, we use the attributes of “smile” and “male”, and work on a task of generating smile images from non-smile images, and a task of generating male images from women images. Since the training of the proposed system requires image pairs including with and without attributes, we use two extraction methods using attribute label and cosine similarity. Attribute features are defined as the averaged difference between image features with and without attributes. We performed two kinds of evaluation experiments, and excellent characteristics were obtained.

Yuki-Tsumugi has very long history and was registered with intangible cultural heritage promoted by UNESCO in 2010. The purpose of this study is to investigate texture characteristic to describe Kansei values of Yuki-tsumugi. We carried out two experiments; one was sensory inspection to evaluate tactile sensation by the method of paired comparisons, the other was to measure mechanical properties by KES-F (Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabric). As results, it was clarified that a Honba Yuki-tsumugi was superior in bending and shear recovery. Its surface had small coefficient of friction and it was bulky. Furthermore, a high correlation between “flexibility” and shear rigidity (G) was shown.

This paper presents a simple font search method using an interactive genetic algorithm and similarity search. We see various types of fonts are used in many graphic designs. Various choices are available when selecting suitable fonts for presentation slides or website designs. However, the existing methods used for selecting fonts become tedious as the number of fonts increases. Our method provides an effective font search process based on visual similarity. In two experiments, we affirm that our method is effective in searching for a desired font, helping users to obtain a font suitable for an alphabetic (or non-alphabetic) character. In particular, our method allows users to search a font suitable for some words in less than half or one-third time that the user selects a font from a font list.

Choreography is one of the important parameters in dance performance. To make dance cool, it is necessary to design the cool choreography. However, beginners can hardly design choreography because they do not know how to judge the choreography good or bad. In this paper, we propose a system which automatically estimates the coolness of choreography for Lock dance and supports for the beginners to design choreography more sophisticated. To realize the proposed system, we focus on the suitability between the dynamics of dance move and music as a parameter of the coolness. We propose the estimation formula of the coolness based on the suitability, and evaluate it experimentally. As the result, it is revealed that the higher the suitability becomes, the higher the coolness becomes especially for the experienced participants feel on the experimented environment. Consequently, it is expected that the proposed system enables beginners to design cool choreography.

Increased demand for web advertising has resulted in a corresponding increase in the need to develop online personalized advertisement. This paper proposes an advertising slogan generation system reflecting preferences of users on the web. By using a social networking service (SNS) site as knowledge base of word preferences, and by employing an advertising slogan corpus, the proposed system aims to generate slogans that reflect advertising posts on SNS. Using model slogans selected from the corpus containing 24,472 slogans, the proposed system generates slogan candidates using the knowledge obtained from a post on SNS. These slogan candidates are selected by the following three indexes; the natural level given by a large scale balanced corpus, the semantic relations score using the advertising slogans, and the preference level obtained from SNS sites. Especially, the proposed system extracts preference data from these SNS fan pages and estimates preference level on each word based on bag-of-words model. This enables the proposed system to select slogans in fashion. The authors conducted an objective experiment to examine the quality of generated slogans. The result shows that (1) the natural level and semantic relation level are effective to select slogans that reflect a post (2) the preference level index contributes to select preferred slogans that interest people.

Rapid urbanization and information technology has reduced human connection and a sense of regional community among local populations around the world. This may have led to a decrease in people's sense of belonging and feelings of fellowship toward their neighbors and towns. We hypothesized that one's sense of belonging and feelings of fellowship toward their town will increase after hearing the sounds of bells. Participants were asked to observe virtual scenes in which they heard the bell signaling every hour. We assessed how listening to the bell influenced participants' feelings of community membership and whether viewing particular scenes and the sound increased these feelings and participants' sense of belonging. Results showed that for scenes involving an overhead view of the bell, e.g., scenes that included facilities such as temples or churches, participants reported an increased immersive experience. as a result of the shared sense of time with their neighbors.

Today, the opportunity to appreciate visual contents on the device of various sizes, such as a large theater, a cellular phone, etc. has increased, and techniques in consideration of environment and KANSEI are required. In order to perform KANSEI evaluation of visual contents, one of typical methods is Semantic Differential Method. However, KANSEI evaluations between bipolar and unipolar method may differ. In this paper, we investigate KANSEI evaluation of 5 types visual contents by changing the reproduction color, camera work and display size. In addition, we investigate bipolarities of stimulus words and effectiveness of unipolar method.

In this paper, a method to generate gradation of typical coloring techniques in order to promote a content production environment in consideration of KANSEI (sensitivity) engineering is discussed. We considered a color cube with coordinates in three axes, representing RGB 3-dimensional space. There are various gradations in a color cube. We have developed an interactive tool to generate a gradation by displaying the inner area of the color cube. We then proposed a new method to generate gradation using this tool. Regarding parameters of display area, we considered inputting pattern data from color scatter charts obtained from paintings or photos. The possibility of a tool which can generate gradation from images corresponding to the KANSEI words is discussed.

The Specific Health Checkup aimed at preventing metabolic syndrome was initiated in 2008 in Japan. Through this guidance, people considered at high risk of metabolic syndrome's progressing are expected to be made aware of their own problems in their daily lifestyle choices and to improve their daily life behaviors by themselves. To support this national endeavor, we have introduced the idea of data mining techniques by building a Bayesian network (BN) corresponding to the framework and the data configuration of the Specific Health Checkup. In this paper, we analyze data on 11,947 anonymized individuals, extracting major factors from questionnaire data related to lifestyle and consider the possibility of generalizing our BN by introducing these lifestyle questionnaire factors as nodes of the BN. This proposed method is found to provide good performance, and its usefulness is revealed by evaluating the level of change of the responses to the questionnaire. Introducing the lifestyle questionnaire factors nodes into the BN would be expected to make it a more useful risk assessment tool.

This study is to clarify the factor of "Kansei" in operation of human interface systems. "Kansei" includes conscious aspect and unconscious aspect. Physiological responses are necessary to evaluate unconscious aspect. In this paper, "<I>sakusaku</I>" feeling at car navigation operation is measured. Relationship between subjective evaluation and, Electrocardiograph measurement and Near Infra- Red Spectroscopy measurement is investigated. Experimental data shows that physiological responses are effective to evaluate unconscious aspect.

Current map systems fail to provide the information that a walker really needs. Because the information that the walker wants is always changing. Current map systems are inadequate because of giving only one index in indication of a map. The conventional map expression technique have used only one kind of indexes such as a sight substance, a hearing substance, or a sensitivity substance. In contrast, an aim of our study is map expression of the forms that system compound, and each layer supplements them each other. Our map is made by investigating at first which kind of map should be used for the promotion of the human geographical recognition. Therefore this paper investigated the number of the landmark in their recognition and the difference between persons who could read a map well and who could not. We carried out three experiments. The first experiment is designed to find out the differences in the concrete landmark between persons who understood a map and who cannot read a map. The second experiment was based on the result of the first experiment and clarified of the important element except the visual object in the human cognitive map. The third additional experiment was performed with the result of the second experiment to examine how map system show multimedia elements. The technique of four kinds of map expression designs was implied from the result of three experiments. And the Layerd-map model is proposed as a presentation method to display them adequately.

In this paper, we propose a support system to convert users' manuals to comics. In the proposed system, comics are generated using the texts and images taken from a manual in advance. The user selects sentences and images used to generate comics, from candidate sentences and candidate images. Furthermore, the user can select the favorite font size and style, and generate comics that matches the preference of each user. We carried out two kinds of evaluation experiments: the first one is the comparison between the generated comics and the original PDF file, the second one is the evaluation of the user-friendliness of the proposed system. As the results, it is confirmed that the proposed system can generate manuals which are easy to read and attract interest by usage of comic representation. In addition, it is also confirmed that users can generate favorable comics as expected by simple operations.

Impression made by the color of cellular phones was investigated. We presented pictures of an identical cellular phone with 16 different body colors to 194 observers and asked them to evaluate the appearance of the pictures by using the Semantic Differential (SD) method. The results of factor analysis indicated that there were three factors of impressions: masculine-feminine, gorgeous-staid, and evaluation. A subsequent confirmatory factor analysis supported the factorial validity of the proposed three-factor model. It also revealed that there were significant gender differences in certain factor scores and intrafactor correlations. We applied the “positioning analysis” method (Toyoda, 2001) for the SD data, and mapped the loading values for SD scales and colors on a 2 dimensional plane. Implications regarding the underlying structure of impression and its relationship with the body color of cellular phone are discussed.

Comic has, recently, been known as one of the most beloved entertainment and affective medium in the world. This paper describes about extraction of Kansei highlight from comic using social data. There seems to be Kansei highlight that most people approve in comic, because several related books where impressive scenes and captions for a comic are gathered are published. Through the experiments on impressions, we obtained social data for comics. We used the social data to extract Kansei highlight from comic. Through the three types of experiments, we confirmed that social data was available for extracting Kansei highlight from comic. Moreover, we designed the interface of social reading system for comic considering interaction on existing social service. We believe that the extraction of Kansei highlight from comic using social data increases attraction of digital comic.
