The number of maintenance work increases as the life span of buildings become longer. This study focuses on calculating the environmental load given by maintenance work of LCCM demonstration house mainly using Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) method for buildings, to compare with the environmental load given by the construction work, and to consider effective measures to reduce the environmental load given by the maintenance work in the future. The environmental load was calculated as 550 kg-CO2, which is 1.4% of the environmental load given by the construction work. 50% of the CO2 emission was given by the manufacture of materials and disposal of waste, and 45% was given by the transportation of workers and materials, so it is considered effective to lessen the CO2 emission by the manufacture, disposal, and transportation to reduce the total environmental load given by the maintenance work.

In the construction of buildings at historic site, general construction methods may not be available because of historic preservation. Especially when using large diameter timber as structural material, it is necessary to not only deal with the restrictions of the surrounding environment but also devise the construction method. In the reconstruction work of Goromon Gate, the main gate of Kagoshima (Tsurumaru) Castle, the frame construction method was devised to deal with these technical issues. This report presents the contents and results.

The purpose of this study is to investigate children's cognitive maps of school buildings. Sketch-map and placings of specific locations of floor plan were employed to externalize children's cognitive maps. The subjects were the second, the third, and the fifth graders. Some of second graders' maps seems to be as accurate as fifth graders' ones in the placings of specific locations. In one school building, the block slanting at 45 degree angle was distorted to be at right angle and pararell about 30 children's cognitive maps. In the other school building, about 10 children's sketch-maps indicated rotated distortions.

The report introduces the present condition and problem of descriptions about the treatment of disaster hazard areas in basic guideline for urban renaissance and guideline for city planning. The targets are 4 prefectures in Tokai region. As the result of analysis, it has become clear that treatments of disaster hazard areas were different from each municipality because of directionality about the exclusion of guideline for city planning and kinds of disasters. In the future, not excluded areas need to be considered excluding and if impossible, disaster prevention measures need to be set in location normalization plan.

This research investigates elements of uncertainty (EOU) remaining after demolition work starts, through observation of the design and construction processes of an exclusively-owned dwelling unit of a condominium with a design–bid–build method. Design revision was assumed for designers to deal with EOU as of the construction contract. There was a case where EOU found after the demolition of interior brought design revision and additional construction, which influenced the construction period and cost. It is thinkable that issues caused by EOU found during the construction work increase. A contract needs to be thought for such risks among stakeholders.

The purpose of paper is to develop the simplified measurement technique of the coefficient of performance (COP) for the household air-conditioner. Furthermore, using the developed COP measurement technique, we measured COP of air-conditioner in five residences. We compared the result of a simple measuring method and a detailed measuring method, and the simple measuring method checked validity.

The study describes an architectural survey of The Fujita Museum warehouses. The two buildings were built in 1911 immediately after reinforced concrete construction was introduced in Japan. And after 107 years the buildings were demolished in 2018. The warehouse 1 had a superior in fireproof performance because it was made of double outer wall and with an incline roof that were made from reinforced concrete. It also have a steel roof truss that was a produced domestically by The Imperial Steel Works, Japan.

Daikou Campus of Nagoya University was established based on Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Daikou Factory, which had been used as arsenal since World War II.The Factory had been destroyed by bombing in 1944 but the part of the main building still exists in Daikou Campus.In this study, I thought that the selection of the location and the way of using under the premise of saving the building of historical value.Therefore, the study also clarified the repair of the factory after it has been destroyed in the bombing.

Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) was an unique designer in the history of modern design. Many art historians, for example, Sir Nikolaus Pevsner in his "Pioneers of Modern Design" and Robert Schmutzler in his "Art Nouveau-Jugendstil", highly appreciated him as a revolutional designer. Dresser's design seems very functional and "modern". But it was not only the result of functional study but also the result of looking into fundamental form. It is true that he studied function of the shape of the pot, but it was only one of his interests. At the same time, he was deeply interested in the study of natural form and of an artistic arrangement of decorative forms. In 1873, he published "the Principles of Decorative Design", which had close relation to Owen Jones' "The Grammer of Ornament" and even to A.W.N. Pugin's "The True Principles of Pointed or Christian Architecture" in 1841. These authors were inquiring into fundamental form and arrangement of decoration. Pugin's principles were based on the Catholic religion, Owen Jones' principles were based on the natural forms. And Dresser found the Energy and the Force as his basic principles for design. Dresser's principles, however, were not completely abstruct ones. He, then, caught a chance to visit Japan. His travelling through Japan from 1877 to 1878 shows characteristics of the principles of his design. He visited Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Nikko, Tokyo and many other places. He was interested in many of Japanese designs, especially, in such decorative designs as mausolea at Nikko and Shiba. It seems that the decorative arrangement in Japanese Art greatly inspired him, and that he had confidence that his principles were true. After returning to Britain, he created many revolutional designs. In these designs, however, we could not find any Japanese motives. But he must have been greatly inspired by Japanese Art. A sanctuary has allways an entrance : a gate. Sometimes these gates are built with wooden stage. They are called "Ro-Haiden" in Yamaguchi area. This paper will clarify that the "Ro-Haiden" of Yamaguchi area was built and spread under the influence of Todaiji-Hachimanga Shrine and Hofu-TemmangU Shrine. The pupose of this paper is to relate the athlete's sense on resilieucy to factors being extracted from measuring the resibiency. The result are obtained from the inquiry about the athlete's sense on resiliency as follows. ・Almost athletes are sensible the difference of resiliency. ・We could extract several gymnasiums which was typical type of resiliency. The results are obtained from the experiment of measuring resiliency with the apparatus being planned and manufactured by way of trial as follows. ・We could obtain dyynanic load-deflection courves of gymnasium floor. ・The relation of gymnasium floor's deflection energy and athlete's sense on resiliency is very intimate. ・The efficiency of vibration damping and the stability of the floor's deflection have influence upon the athlete's sense on resiliency.

Analogies are widely and variously used in architecture. This paper is the first part of a study for proving the state of the permeation of analogy and its significance by investigating analogies in the following three categories: the "concept", "design" and "perception" of architecture. In this paper, by referring to the "analogical design" of Geoffrey Broadbent, I deal with analogy in the category, "design". The function of analogical design can be grasped through two aspects '. One is that as a design method and the other is its effect, which relates to the symbolism and identity of architecture. Analogy begins with the recognition of similarity and is guided by it, but the similarity is not found in similar things but in rather different kinds of things. Therefore, analogical design also usually draws analogies from things other than architecture, and thus, its characteristics vividly come out. However, there are some cases where analogy is drawn from architecture and vernacular buildings. In these cases, analogy seems to get close to the meaning of "imitation", but analogy has to be distinguished from it. Comparing analogy with imitation, the former is more operative, conversive and sophisticated, while the latter is more direct, straightforward and obedient.

In 1921, the Ofuna Denentoshi Co. Ltd. was established to construct the garden city in Japan. But it is not known the detail of its motivation and purpose that they established it, and the project of the residential quarter because it bunkrupped halfway. The Watanabe family the business proprietor had managed the plan of Watanabe-cho that was taken notice of the ideal garden suburbs in Tokyo Nippori. The Watanabe family was not satisfied with the Watanabe-cho project and they established the company the Ofuna Denentoshi Co. Ltd. to construct the garden city. This article report presents the business contents which had been taken out by the Ofuna Denentoshi Co. Ltd. from the news and the project reports of company and considers the contents of the residential quarter "Shin Kamakura" which had been constructed in front of Ofuna station.

This report is the user participation technique in the refurbishing work of nursery school outside wall in Nisshin city, Aichi Prefecture. We interviewed nursery school children by “coloring”. Parents and nursery school teachers deepened their understanding of refurbishing work by the coloring of the nursery school children. Develop user participation technique for nursery school children and summarize results and issues.

This paper proposes a novel analytical model (BECK chart) to investigate how architecture education programs contribute to learning about the built environment. First the educational content of 67 AIA-supported architecture education programs for children and youth are categorized. Next the model is applied to visualize how these categories relate to the built environment. This analysis aims to contextualize the content of architecture education programs for children and youth in order to evaluate the ways in which these programs provide Built Environment Education content. The value of the model is also discussed.

<p>The documents about the construction of Ishiyamadera-temple during the Nara period still exist, and the restoration research of the main hall has been examined. This paper focused on rafters and angle rafter and tried to restore the roof by examining document and drawing. The grade can be calculated from the dimensions of the listed rafter, and the advanced estimation of the material used for the main hall. As a conclusion, it is thought that the roof type was a hipped roof, and discovered the process of construction in ancient periods.</p>
