<p>In this paper, we report on a proof-of-concept level energy harvester device that could earn electric power of 0.093 µW/cm<sup>2</sup> by the fluidic motion in a PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) micro fluidic channel placed on a silicon substrate with built-in permanent electrical charges or so-called electrets. Targeting implantable medical devices such as respiratory pace-maker, the heart beat or aspiration is thought to be the source of motion as a final shape of the energy harvesting system.</p>

This paper proposes a new field-weakening control considering voltage saturation for vector controlled induction motor. The proposed method improves the output torque characteristics in the field-weakening region. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified by the experimental results.

We have conducted a series of studies on a non-contact groove sensing and reproduction of sound signal from phonograph records based on digital image and signal processing. Images of sound grooves were captured by a PC scanner having an appropriate resolution. After an image processing is performed to improve the image contrast, we have investigated filtering methods to extract the position of the groove edges. In addition, we have linearized the arc-shaped groove lines in order to make subsequent signal processing easy. Finally, we have attempted to reproduce the recorded sound waveform using a set of coordinates of the groove edges and created a WAVE-file for sound playback on PCs.

We are developing a new high performance traction motor for railway vehicle using interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) and expecting it can reduce energy consumption. To estimate the losses and energy consumption of IPMSM, a simple motor model is needed. In this paper, We propose a simple equivalent circuit and loss model for IPMSM, the constants of which can be obtained from several simple test results. The calculation results using them show that the total loss of the IPMSM becomes about 60% of that of the induction motor when used as a traction motor for a typical commuter train.

This paper is aimed at providing the designing method of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control system for the high-speed and the single-phase AC powered Gauge Changing Train (GCT). The state-of-the-art electrical motive unit is equipped with downsized direct drive type PMSMs for the simplified gauge changeable truck. Due to the feeding the AC single phase power, we propose a beat-less control for PMSMs. We verify the development results of designing procedures by the experimental results of operation on a high-speed test line in Colorado, USA.

This paper presents a method of wireless-power transmission to devices which move from close distance to far area from transmitting antenna. UHF range, specifically 430 MHz, was selected in this study so that both of the near-field and the electro-magnetic energy would exist in the applicable distance and the rectenna would be small enough. The resulting hardware is compact and light enough to be installed on a moving target with only minor sacrifices in size and weight. As a demonstration of this concept, a rectenna and two driving motors were embedded in each of the four rotors of a quadcopter. The rotor assembly (rotor, antenna, rectifier, two motors) is powered by UHF waves and rotates around a mechanically fixed shaft. Successful test flights of the quadcopter demonstrate the feasibility of wireless power transmission to mobile targets.
