A hydrodynamic levitation centrifugal pump is being developed for a long-term implantable artificial heart. The hemocompatibility was investigated with numerical analysis and has been verified with animal blood tests. The hemolytic property was improved by expanding the bearing gap and by adjusting the pressure balance and the antithrombogenicity has been improved by adding deep grooves to the hydrodynamic bearings to increase the flow rate through the bearings.

The bullet-firing test was done in the different velocity and collision angle of the bullet. The effect of its velocity and angle on the deformation shape after firing was discussed by comparison with experiment and simulation. The velocity of the bullet was chosen in several kinds of speed ranges at 80m/s-250m/s. As for the angle of incidence with the collision object, four kinds of angles 90°(head-on collision), 45°, 30°, and 60°were set.

In this study, we developed a finite element simulation program for a three-dimensional stress analysis of the rim of a road bike wheel. The cross-sectional model of the rim structure is created based on the boundary data of the rim and a three-dimensional model is created by extruding the cross-sectional model. Aluminum alloy, generally used for the rim of the road bike wheel, is assumed as the material of the rim because it is inexpensive and isotropic material.

This paper presents a brand-new system for elevator group control. In past, passengers had to push buttons at halls and in elevators, so elevators had to stop at many floors in morning up-peak. The new system can collect passengers to the same floor, because their destinations are automatically registered in passing by security gates. The relationship destination floors and IDs are set to security system on ahead. In result, it reduces around trip times and traffic efficiency is improved. A result of demonstration experiment shows that the new system makes traffic handling capacity increased by 15%, compared to conventional UP/DOWN button system.

In this paper, the engineering evaluation method of the crucian fishing rods is performed. Principal component analysis and multiple regression analysis are performed to the results of the questionnaire about the performance of crucian fishing rods. As a result, the performance evaluation index "stiffness・strength", "weight", "top stop" are obtained and the performance evaluation equations of the crucian fishing rods are established. It is cleared that these equations are enough practical in the sight of degree of accuracy. Then, the design of crucian fishing rod is performed by using FE model. The design of the rod with targeted performance is become possible by solving the optimization problem setting the diameter of the rod as the design parameters and the Principal component score as the evaluation function. It is thought that these analysis methods are applied to the tailored design of fishing rod based on the sensory requirement of angler.

Recently, the designed railway vehicles are expanding in Japan. Odakyu Electric Railway Company has 6 kinds of vehicles "Romancecar"; each of them has different design. Showing the effect of quality designed vehicles for passengers contributes to vehicle development. This study aims to develop the Train-Choice-Model what is able to estimates the effect. This model built by utility function that has some variables of design. The 930 sample data were collected by questionnaire for passengers. The teaching tool for learned the mechanism of wind power generation in junior high school industrial arts and homemaking course was developed. Developed teaching tool is a windmill of the savonius-type. The magnetic levitation bearing has been installed so that the impeller may lightly rotate. The rotation of the blades are accelerated by the gear, and the magnet rotates it. The transformer has been installed at the lower, and the electricity is being generated by the change of the magnetic field. The main body is made in the transparent acrylic pipe, as to observe the transmission of the power is possible. The class practice was carried out by the utilization of this teaching tool for junior high school students. As the result, it was possible to learn the mechanism of the wind power generation experimentally, and the fixing of the learning heightened.

新潟県では2003年にジャパンオープンが開催される。これを契機に県内の幅広い層(高校, 大学等)からのロボカップ 参加を積極的に奨励して, 長期的なロボット教育, 開発の活性化を目指している。しかし, ロボカップる。そこで新潟県では産官学が一体となり, 手軽に, 安価に多くのチームが参加できるよう標準機の作成を試みた。ここでは, その取り組みを報告する。

The objective of this study was to develop a simulation method for analysis of body behavior in skydiving freefall and to clarify the most stable body position during the freefall. The details of the developed simulation method were firstly described. Using the simulation method, we conducted an optimizing calculation to maximize an objective function with respect to the stability in the freefall. It was found that the most stable position became arched one. In order to clarify the reason why the most stable position became arched, optimization with respect to a simple shaped object which consists of 20 cylinders was conducted. Then the angle to maximize the restoring moment for each cylinder element was analytically calculated and compared with the optimized angle. From the results, we conclude that the most stable position becomes arched mainly since the restoring moment at each part itself becomes maximum at that angle. We also conclude that the magnitude of the arch in the most stable position is determined by the ratio of the normal and tangential drag coefficients.

A design of foundation garments like a brassiere and a girdle is made to realize elegant bodyline and comfortable feeling of wearing. The know-how acquired by research and development of foundation was used and applied for design of walking assistance robot. The contact place of human body and robot was determined by measurement of expansion and contraction of the skin and the body form change by movement. In addition, to evaluate of a feeling of wearing, contact pressures were measured. In this result, it has checked that contact pressure was in agreement with sensory evaluation.

Nowadays, with a recent interest in robots, a lot of portal/news sites about the robots appeared on the Internet, and some robot magazines are first published. Furthermore, the activities of science communication and outreach has intensified. Therefore, researchers of robotics should consider how to be involved in these media/activities and how to cooperate with it for the promotion of robotics. To solve these problems, both the researchers and the media/activities have to enhance mutual understanding and exchange with each other. In this paper, we get an overview of the current state of these media/activities and express our point of view how researchers to be involved in it.

"Women in Robotics" is the international community whose scope includes but not be limited to: students, engineers and researchers in robotics, human science and technology; who are interested in research and development activities conducted by women in these fields; who would like to explore technical and social needs of women for marketing; and who have interests in our activities. Our mission is to provide a venue for discussion and collaboration for technical development that creates enjoyable and efficient style of work and life. In this paper, we introduce our activities, and discuss aims and scope of the technical session at Robotics and Mechatronics Conference in 2007.
