Some field surveys have been done on chariots of ancient China. In this paper, axle bearings are discussed. Before Christ, wooden axle is supported by wooden bearings. Beginning of the first millennium, mass production method of cast iron by water jet turbine. crank mechanism, and reciprocating blower are invented. After Christ, cast iron axle bearings are applied to chariots.

Surface-cracked specimens are analyzed precisely using the three-dimensional finite element method, and the stress fields at the crack tip are compared with HRR solution. First, a plate with a surface crack subjected to a bending load is analyzed. It is shown that the stress field does not agree well with the HRR solution when the crack depth is not large. But as the crack depth increases, the stress field becomes nearer to the HRR solution. It is also shown that a displacement field similar to the HRR solution exists in a small region wheich is very near to the crack tip. Then the surface crack in a pipe is analyzed. The results show that the stress field is significantly different from the HRR solution. The reason for this difference is considered to be the difference of the stress distribution in the ligament of the specimen.

This paper describes the morphing omnidirectional gripper which is able to grasp various objects with low melting point alloy. The deformable part of the gripper changes its shape by covering all directionof objects and makes the contacting area higher. In order to keep the high grasping force, proposed gripper does not need any additional energy thanks to the solid state of the deformable part including low melting point alloy. The design of the actual prototype model with cooling mechanism is shown and built. In addition, the usage of functional fluids for the morphing part is proposed. The basic performance of the blended material of low melting point alloy and magnetic fluid has been observed.

This paper describes linear load-sensitive continuously variable transmission with the spherical driving unit. This CVT mechanism consists of spherical drive, drive axis, motor housing, fixed bracket and linear sliding plate. It changes the reduction ratio continuously by inclination angle of active rotational axis. Additionally, this linear mechanism has a load-sensitive function by changing inclination of active rotational axis in response to the load. We have developed a linear load-sensitive continuously variable transmission and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism.

In this paper, the tetrahedral mobile robot as a throwable robot for search and rescue mission is presented. Especially, the tetrahedral mobile robot with the central rotational axis as a expanding mechanism has been developed to illustrate the concept. Motion experiments confirm the novel properties and function of this central axis: Motion experiments, with a test model are also presented.

This paper describes the connected two unit crawlers to realize various configurations. By changing the configuration of two connected vehicle units in relative positions, the robot with this mechanism can automatically adapt to the surface obstacles in the field, including such complicated structures like debris after disasters. In addition we analyzed the effect of the each axis arrangement in order to realized switching function to compose the four basic configurations more easily, and developed an actual prototype model.

It is important to get the objective evaluation of human sensation for vibration. The one of the methods is to use the vibration contour for human sensation standardized by ISO. It explains the relation between the frequency and the vibration level at a certain frequency range where the subject feels those vibrations in the equal strength. This study investigates the vibration responses of the human body at the equivalent strength to understand why they feel those vibrations equal. As a result, an average contour of plural subjects for human sensation becomes similar to the contour standardized by ISO. The conditions of human vibration change at about 10Hz.

Numerical simulations have been made on the flow and heat-and-mass transfer in a falling liquid film. The development of a two-dimensional wave was successfully predicted, which consists of a large solitary wave and ripple waves in front of it. Heat and mass transfer is enhanced by the wave, and the enhancement is remarkable in the case of mass transfer with high Sc number. Three-dimensional calculations indicate that a two-dimensional wave becomes unstable with the increase of Re number, resulting in U-shaped three-dimensional waves. The Sh number increases with the transition from 2D to 3D waves.

28kW級のマイクロガスタービン発電機を導入し、コージェネレーションパッケージの開発を進めてきた。中小工場では蒸気回収が有用であるが、マイクロガスタービンの排気温度は300C程度と低く蒸気発生には不向きである。このため排気再燃バーナを装備した小形貫流ボイラを開発した。ほぼ所定の蒸発量に見合う燃焼量とNOx値が得た。

Although PID control is still widely used in the industry, it isn't answered a high performance demand. On the other hand, the model predictive control (MPC) is paid attention as effective control but it takes much cost to introduce MPC instead of the PID control since the MPC structure quite different from the PID control. To defeat such situation, this paper proposes a model predictive PID Control method. In this method, the PID control gains are derived by solving the constrained optimization problem based on MPC algorithm without using inverse matrixes. The numerical simulations show that the proposed method is effective for various control systems.

X-ray diffraction contrast tomography (DCT) is a technique for three-dimensional grain mapping of polycrystalline material. Measurement of DCT has been conducted m SPring-8 and shape and location of grain can be determined by DCT technique using the apparatus in BL19B2. For evaluation of plastic deformation by DCT, tensile and cyclic loading was applied to the sample during the measurement of DCT. The diffraction spots belonging to certain grain appear over some continuous projection images. The rotation angle range where diffraction spot appear is defined as grain orientation spread, and the grain orientation spread was counted in tensile tests and fatigue test. In the tensile test, the grain orientation spread increases in the plastic deformation. In the fatigue test, grain orientation spread increases with increasing m the number of cycles. It is possible to evaluate fatigue damage by DCT technique and using the grain orientation spread.
