The LE-7 rocket engine main injector has undergone a few occurrences of welded joint structural failure because it is subjected to high thermal stress during the engine start and stop sequence. The low-cycle fatigue test and high-strain fatigue test which were conducted as part of failure analysis revealed that the welded joint has a considerably shorter fatigue life than expected. To improve the ductility and toughness of the welded joint, high-temperature-solution heat treatment was applied after welding. The low-cycle fatigue life of a welded joint subjected to this solution heat treatment became three times longer than that without it. A design criterion was established for low-cycle fatigue life estimation, and the life requirement was found to be satisfied.

For rising competition abilities, it is important to do feedback of player's characteristics in or after the game. In this study, We abstracted and resolved characteristic of movement excursion from beginners and experts. Because of feedback of movement excursion will be able to contribute to cradling of players. In the present analysis method, player's information on the position was gotten by estimation with eyes and using recorded videotape. But, these methods are not objective judge and take enormous time as it is unable to do feedback subjective information right after the game. Therefore, We carried out REAL-TIME DIFFERNCE IMAGE PROCESSING SYSTEM developed by Nishihara et al. With this trace analysis system, We estimated the position information of the actual coat of badminton players on the screen in real time. Game was arranged by separately the beginner and expert group of university students, and organized with 11 points match game. From these games, the data including time of rest period as interval of rally, work period as rally, distance of mobility and velocity of mobility were collected. In view of the analytical results in the games, it was clarified that, comparing the expert group with the beginner group, there was no difference in velocity of left-right mobility direction, but the former moved more rapidly in before-behind mobility direction than the latter. As a result of comparing between beginners' and experts' staying time at the court divided into 6×6 segments, the former stayed much longer at the left side in front of the court and the latter stayed longer at the both side in back of the court in significant. Beginners took rest period significantly longer than experts, however there was not difference during work period. Also, movement of excursion, when got and lost points, made players' weak-points obvious easily. Our study shows that this system is effective for improving competition abilities as players can get momently their characteristics of excursion after the game immediately.

竹馬形2足歩行ロボット(BIPER-3)を試作し, 三次元的な動的歩行制御理論を提案し, その有効性をシミュレーションと実験により確かめた. この理論は, 片脚支持期の初期値さえ制御できれば, この期間内で誤差を0に修正しようとする制御を考えなくても系が安定になることに基づき, 簡単な線形フィードバック制御により実現できる.

びびり振動中のドリルの挙動を,振動特性の異なるドリルを用いて書斎に調べた.励振エネルギは,切れ刃が傾くことによって穴底面に創成される起伏の位相が,直前の切削によるそれよりおくれることにより供給されることがわかった.振動数は刃先を支持したドリルの固有振動数にほぼ等しい,切れ刃の傾きを考慮して振動発生限界を求めた結果,被削材一回転中の振動数が奇数となるときに不安定領域が存在することが見い出された.

Computer representation of the product object is necessary for realization of concurrent engineering. This representation should be determined cooperatively by design and production departments using communication systems. This paper describes minimum design and production criteria to meet requirements and functions for modelling. The authors propose one method for representation of the product object, using object-oriented programming and an object-oriented database management system. Reliable data for this product object representation were obtained by interviewing several experienced designers and manufacturing engineers and through a literature search. Then, the authors developed a prototype and verified the validity. Based on a simple design experiment, the possibility of realizing human-centered concurrent engineering was clarified.

A tailless aircraft is known as an airplane with the merit of little air drag since the tail and the fuselage, which connects the main wing with the tail plane, do not exist. It also has the demerit of instability in maneuvering in the longitudinal direction. Our team at Ritsumeikan University has been daring to participate in the birdman-rally with the tailless aircraft, but a good result has not yet been obtained. The purpose of this paper is to study and to develop the tailless aircraft for the birdman-rally by computational fluid dynamics. The data of the flight at the last rally were analyzed, and the problems and solutions were obtained.

モーダル解析で高次モードの応答を静的応答で近似して補正する手法の有効性がすでに確認されている.本報では,この手法をモード合成法やフリーフリーの系へ拡張するために一般化座標の形で提示する.この一般化座標の意味あるいは解釈について述べた後,この一般化座標の計算アルゴリズム,この一般化座標を用いた場合の外力項の誤差の評価方法を示す.最後に,外力項の誤差が零になることを2種類の計算モデルで確認する.

The algorithm for on-line flight path optimization for emergency landing of aircraft and its flight experiment are discussed in this paper. On-line optimal flight path generation problem is transformed into the state-space search problem and the Tabu Search method with Random Moves is combined to optimize each segment of the state-space search in real-time. We checked the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in flight simulation, then the plan for the flight experiment scheduled in this October is illustrated. The generated flight path is shown to a pilot in "Tunnel-in-the-Sky" Display, and indicates guidance for emergency landing to the pilot.

The purpose of this study is to find out influence of wettability on condensate film behavior. We used two material balls, Alumina Ball (AB) and Coated Alumina Ball (CAB). CAB have higher wettability than AB. This study was conducted by streaming the humidity-air over the porous media surface in a chamber covered by ambient-air. Condensation film behavior in the system was visualized by use of video camera. The main result mention that condensate film behavior of AB media was channel flow, whereas its of CAB media was almost drop wise condensation under low humidity-air temperature.

During a car frontal collision, some part of the occupant's kinetic energy is transferred to the vehicle through the restraint system. The high ratio of the transferred energy has the advantage of protecting the occupant. This phenomenon is called "ride down effect". It is known from experience that if the deceleration of the automotive body is large in the early stages of a collision, the effect becomes large, provided that the vehicle kinetic energy and the maximum value of the automotive body deformation are same. In order to design an automotive body structure taking into consideration the ride down effect, the dynamic relation between the occupant deceleration, which is one of important injury criteria, and the automotive body structure must be studied. However, there have been few researches to analyze the theoretical mechanism of the ridedown effect in detail. In this paper, we formulated ridedown effect focusing on the protection devices using a two-degree-of-freedom model for a vehicle and an occupant. The relationship between the index of the ride down effect and the occupant deceleration caused by crashing the automotive body structure was theoretically analyzed, and an optimum automotive crash design was examined.

The goal of this study is to develop the technology of the robot to reach the goal of a human player for more than 80 percent. To achieve this, we use high speed manipulator, high speed image processing method, real-time and high-accuracy control system. Therefore, we need to measure a puck position accurately through the image processing, estimate the motion of the puck steady with particle filter, calculate the motion of the puck with the law of conservation of momentum. In this paper, first, the position of the puck is measured by removing noise from the image processing. Secondly, the motion of the puck is estimated by using recursive least square estimation, considering the reflection coefficient and rotation of the puck. Thirdly, the trajectory of the arm is generated so as to reach the goal. Then, we show the data of experiments and verify the effectiveness of the system.

This paper proposes a new index for performance evaluation of robotic manipulators from the point of view of high speed positioning. The proposed index is defined by the ratio of the positioning time realized by a manipulator for a set of starting position and desired position under a certain load condition and the minimum positioning time which is determined by the capacity of the actuators equipped with the manipulator. The results of computer simulations and experiments of evalution of the spatial inparallel actuated manipulator with six degrees of freedom developed by the authors have been presented. Comparisons of the proposed index with the transmission index and the adept motion cycly time have been presented. Through these results, effectiveness of the proposed index has been clarified.

We propose a robot FOR a pet, not for an owner. Our ultimate goal is to develop a robot that contributes to create and maintain better relation between the pet and the owner while keeping good pet's health condition. In this paper, we propose the robot for the pet and discuss current situation of pet industry. We investigate literatures in the context of animal robot interaction and we discuss a possibility to create a new home robot market. Finally, we show an initial example of ongoing interaction experiment using a tele-operated robot with the dog.

This paper describes a part of incident situation of driver especially on vehicle sideslip situation. Nowadays, many researches aiming to develop the driving assistance system for decreasing traffic accidents are being conducted, but the best way to deal with this problem is to study about the main source of the accidents, that is driver. This research focuses on the driving behavior while doing double lane change and when the road friction is reduced suddenly by using driving simulator, which can be recorded to analyze the pattern of incident so that if the behavior that driver is going to do can be analyzed, the event that will be occurred can be predicted. Data are collected and used to find out the causes of incidents and the factors informing about the car spinning out of the course. In future, all of data will be used to synthesize the assistance system for assisting driver before accident happens.

Most robot craft construction courses held by regional administrative organs are temporary events, so that it is very difficult to communicate between participants only in the event day. The purpose of our project is to construct the partnership among our small collaborations, such as small collaboration between NPO NPO-RIC and Kanagawa Univ, between Kanagawa Univ. and the after school daycare facility "Okaeri", and between Kanagawa Univ. and Trans Cosmos Ltd., and so on. In this paper, not only the robot craft construction course but also the process of collaboration among our organization with each different output are reported.

In this study, we implement a vortex method based on Object-Oriented Programming using Modern Fortran, well-known as Fortran 2003. Object-Oriented Programming features enable us to maintain, reuse and extend existing program source codes easier. First of all, we implement Doubly Linked List and related procedures including iterator and dynamic cast to store and refer data of vortex elements, which discretize the vortical field of flows. We implement a vortex blob method and apply the method to simulate a plane mixing layer to confirm its suitability. Implementation processes we performed are easier than and resultant source codes we created are simpler than those which are performed and are created through the procedural programming which is popularly used on the programming of numerical simulation methods, confirming the Object-Oriented Programming's suitability for the numerical simulation methods including the vortex blob method.
