In case a design builds monochrome, it is a process which materializes what monochrome is built how. The subject outline and attainment target of machine design and exercise are fully utilizing the knowledge of the basic subject of mechanical engineering, and creating a machine and parts. At this lecture, an understanding of a design process, the statement of principles of a design, the embodiment of a design, design calculation, drawing, etc. are learned about the design of the machine product currently used for training (creative) of the problem solution capability as a designer of a machine. In the 1st report, it carried out to what should be made now, the machine design education of the next machine element designing method center of describing the lesson form of machine design and exercise has been improved, and consideration about new machine design and exercise education was performed from the viewpoint of the production of a design=thing.

Targeting to manufacture of micro fluidic chip masters, the feasibility of the novel micro stereo lithography method which featured 'restrained resin surface by glass and one direction scanning' was studied. We have got better results by new method than by currently method. With the great help of such advantages, we succeeded in making two-depth sample whose minimum channel width was 50 μm at the height of 20 μm.

Compression ignition of a stoichiometric iso octane/oxygen/argon mixture was observed using a shock tube and a rapid compression machine. Reducing the compression temperature, the activation energy for the shock compression ignition fell suddenly at the critical temperature the ignition delay exceeded around 1 ms. This peculiarity could be seen in the shock compression stoichiometric methane ignition with which mixture absolutely no cool flame low-temperature reactions accompanied. Shock wave diagrams indicated that the ignition was originated not at the end of the tube but to the inside of the tube. It resulted in the smaller activation energies in the lower temperature regions. This phenomenon was not due to the difference of chemical reaction mechanisms. IIigh-speed schlieren observations using another shock tube with visualization windows have allowed us to confirm the peculiarity that the earliest ignition sites were located apart from the tube end and the ignition initiation structure would change depending on the compression temperature.

This paper presents an experimental platform to explore effective ambient intelligence systems using a MEMS-based wearable eye-tracking system and tactile display. Ambient intelligence, which allows us to receive useful information on site and at real time from the surrounding environment, requires a method to let the users be aware of the information. Given that our vision and hearing is heavily used, we consider that utilizing of tactile sensation is most effective. In our research, We use an unobtrusive pupil tracker for wearable computer using dye-sensitized photovoltaic cells installed on an eyeglass lens and an electro tactile display. In addition, we made an Android application that enables us to manipulate the Tactile sensations and get information of the eye tracking device.

A new type of heat pipe, called BACH (Bubble-Actuated Circulating Heat pipe), was revised so as to be capable of both top-heat mode and bottom-heat mode by valve switching. In this research, heat transport characteristics of the BACH between underground and ground surface were measured experimentally. The working fluid was R134a. The obtained results show that at bottom-heat mode, BACH can transport heat of 200W maximum, while it can transport heat of 300W maximum at top-heat mode. The heat transport characteristics were affected by underground length and cooling method of intermediate cooled section, and in general the underground length 4m was optimal.

This article discusses how to construct a realtime robot control system on RT-Middleware with ART-Linux, which supports AMP (Asymmetric Multi-Processing). As an example, a force feedback control system is implemented by means of multiple RT-Components that require realtime synchronous execution. There are some different system formations depending on the processor and process on which each component runs. The realtime performance of the system is evaluated based on experimental results for several formations.

Sloshing motion inside of tank of water rocket has a significant influence on the flight characteristics of the rocket Sloshing characteristics of water rocket was studied on the ground test and its influence on the flight was observed by the flight test. It was identified that rocket with conventional nozzle has large sloshing motion inside of the tank and its flight was unstable. On the other hand, rocket with newly developed nozzle has small sloshing motion and its flight was quite stable.

An automobile simulator experiment was carried out in order to develop a method of prediction of sleepiness based on mainly physiological parameters. Twelve subjects participated in the study. First, criteria variables of sleepiness were investigated since such variables have not been clear in many previous studies. Rated sleepiness based on facial expression was examined as a criteria variable in this research. Rated sleepiness by two examiners gave high correspondence (0.755), and mean correlation coefficient between this rated sleepiness and the subjects' self-rating sleepiness was also high (0.794). These results show that this rated sleepiness is considered to be reliable and valid as a criteria variable. Second, both physiological parameters and the driving performances were adopted as explanatory variables. Cross-correlation analysis between the rated sleepiness and these parameters showed that α/β at posterior-midline (Pz), blink duration, the rate of long blink and heart rate were relevant as general indexes of slepiness. Methods of prediction of sleepiness based on these results are mentioned in our second report.

Astronauts are able to stay long-term in space because of space development. In long-term stay, the collection of excrement is one of main issues due to difficulty of collecting excrement under microgravity, odor in spaceship, and noise of exhaust fan. Therefore, in this paper, we propose Insert-type Toilet that has an openable and closable apparatus and it is used by being inserted to the anus. Advantages of it is collecting excrement without defecating to outside and preventing diffusion of odor. In order to verify its capability, we also develop Defecation Robot that duplicates organs and movements of muscles around the pelvis for mimicking human-like defecation. Furthermore, we verify defecation and collecting capability of Defecation Robot and Insert-type Toilet by conducting the experiment.

The crossed axle traction drive developed by the authors is applied to a new mechanism of CVT. The input and output shafts with conical disks are parallel and a idler shaft having conical rollers at both ends is placed perpendicular to the input/output shafts. This idler shaft transmits torque from the input shaft to the output shaft and its movement produces the speed variation by changing the contact point between the input/output disk and the idler roller. The purposes of this study are to propose the new CVT mechanism, to develop a prototype to confirm the CVT to work and to evaluate the transmission efficiency. The design procedure of disk and roller are shown by geometrical analysis and the method to apply contact force by using a loading cam is examined. The influence of a spin caused by changing the contact point and torque loss of bearings to the. transmission efficiency are evaluated. The range of speed changing ratio of the prototype is 0.5 to 2. The efficiency of 75% was obtained in case of input torque 10 Nm at uniform speed.

繊維媒体領域に外部から一様な平行光が入射する場合の媒体中でのふく射輸送を積分方程式法によって解析し、入射ふく射束分布、ふく射熱流束分布を明らかにしたが、とくに入射ふく射束分布については、散乱のアルベドが大きい領域で、ピークが形成されることを示した。また精度のよい指数積分核近似法を提示した。さらに本体系のふく射減衰関数はBickley-Naylor関数で表示できることを示し、二、三の積分公式を導いた。

This study discusses the communication between autonomous robots and humans through the development of a robot which has an emotion model. The model refers to the internal secretion system of humans and it has four kinds of the hormone parameters to use to adjust various internal conditions such as motor output, cooling' fan output and sensor gain. We surveyed 126 visitors at '97 International Robot Exhibition held in Tokyo (Oct. 1997) in order to exaluate psychological impressions of the robot. As the result, the human friendliness of the robot was confirmed and some factors concerning with the human robot emotional communication were discovered.
