Es障害は近隣諸外国の電波がスポラディックE層 (Es層) によって反射され, 我が国のテレビ電波に混信する障害である.このEs障害の改善装置を開発し, その原理, 構成, 性能について述べた.本装置はテレビ中継放送局の中間周波段に挿入して妨害波を除去することを目的として開発したものであり, 最大4波までの妨害波を, 単一正弦波で50dB以上, FM妨害波で40dB以上自動的に除去する.千葉県銚子中継放送局において本装置の野外除去実験を行った.その結果, 妨害波の数が1波の場合, ほぼ確実に妨害波を除去できる.また複数の妨害波に対しても主観評価で1ランク以上改善でき, 今回最も妨害波の数が多かった8波の場合でも, 0.5ランクの改善ができる.また銚子において障害を受けている全期間中の妨害波数が2波以上ある時間率は約50%あり, 複数妨害波に対応できる本装置のEs障害に対する有効性を確認した.

液晶ディスプレイの動きぼやけの評価方法であるMPRTは, 液晶の中間調における応答特性とホールド型表示に起因するぼやけを総合的に評価する手法である. この手法により動いている画像を追従している時にしか見えないぼやけを定量化することが可能になる. 本稿では, 動きぼやけの評価手法を紹介するとともにMPRTで評価した結果と主観評価結果の相関について述べる.

We investigated the relationship between viewer comprehension of a TV program and the direction of his or her gaze in a real experimental TV educational program involving 26 elementary schoolchildren. The aim was to observe the correlation between TV program comprehension and entropy of gaze distribution. Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) are estimated using statistical methods and assumed to represent the distribution of many subjects' gaze. The results indicate that variances in gaze direction tended to be lower for scenes for which the subjects had better comprehension. The tendency was further noticeable after keywords were uttered that were related to the answers of correponding questions. A gaze-model-estimation method and the theretical accuracy are also described in the paper.

An OFDM signal is easily is degraded by amplifier nonlinearity. A method for measuring such nonlinearity has been developed and tested in two ways: vector measurement using the two-tone method and comparison between a sinc-shaped input signal and the output signal. Four amplifier characteristics were measured with the methods and represented as AM-AM/AM-PM conversion characteristics. Using these results, computer simulation was run to determine the effect of nonlinearity. OFDM signals were generated and the CN ratios were measured. The results agreed with those of the experiments. Testing of the predistortion in the amplifier with most remarkable AM-PM characteristic confirmed the simulated predistortion.

The five choruses from various parts via satellites of world and an orchestra "Ode to Joy" were synchronized in Opening Ceremony of Nagano Olympic. NHK Engineering Services davaioped the Time-Lag Adjuster (TLA) to conduct this. TLAs overcame time and distance lags, and this technology brought their voices and images together at precisaly the same moment at Minami Stadium in Nagano on huge screens, united in a simultaneous live performance successfully. We also developed "Audio and Video delay time measurement device". which allowed easy and stable operation for the opening ceremony.

今回のロンドンオリンピックにおいてNHKは,OBS(オリンピック放送機構),BBC(英国放送協会)と共同で,スーパーハイビジョン(以下 SHV)による公開上映(パブリックビューイング:以下 PV)を日本,英国,米国の各会場で実施した.ここでは,オリンピック会場で開閉会式や競技を中継(生中継または中継録画)するベニュー制作,現場から伝送されたコンテンツを映像編集・MAを行いパッケージ化する業務について紹介する.

We have provided web casting services of the national high school baseball championship tournament since 1996. This paper describes our technical approaches to diverse multimedia content production in this service. Among the various techniques developed, we focused on implementing and operating data handling mechanisms to provide high-quality contents with low operational cost. They include video contents production for the Internet, management and utilization of the metadata, and web contents distribution. In addition, we also describe the knowledge and experiences obtained through the service's actual operation.
