昨年2017年9月2日,下顎枝矢状分割術の考案で著名なHugo Obwegeser(1920年10月21日生まれ)が96歳で亡くなった.葬儀は彼のホームタウンであるチューリッヒのシュヴェルツェンバハで9月13日に行われた.これも最新の歯学として忘れてはならない出来事である.彼が書いた書籍1)に,下顎枝矢状分割術の施行に関しとても興味深い内容が書かれているので,最初に紹介したい.その上で,当院でのこれまでの発展の歴史と最近の話題を語りたい.

Terrestrial hydrophilid beetles species (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) occurring in the Kuril Archipelago in the northwestern Pacific are reviewed. Based on literature records, museum collections and material from recent expeditions, 17 species (including 2 unidentified) are known from this archipelago. A detail report on 5 species is given on the basis of about 1,260 adult specimens collected in the Kuril Islands by International Kuril Island Project (IKIP). IKIP was a joint Japanese-Russian-American expedition conducted between 1994- 2000.

A literature-based taxonomic catalogue of the nemertean species (Phylum Nemertea) reported from Japanese waters is provided, listing 19 families, 45 genera, and 120 species as valid. Applications of the following species names to forms previously recorded from Japanese waters are regarded as uncertain: Amphiporus cervicalis, Amphiporus depressus, Amphiporus lactifloreus, Cephalothrix filiformis, Cephalothrix linearis, Cerebratulus fuscus, Lineus vegetus, Lineus bilineatus, Lineus gesserensis, Lineus grubei, Lineus longifissus, Lineus mcintoshii, Nipponnemertes pulchra, Oerstedia venusta, Prostoma graecense, and Prostoma grande. The identities of the taxa referred to by the following four nominal species require clarification through future investigations: Cosmocephala japonica, Dicelis rubra, Dichilus obscurus, and Nareda serpentina. The nominal species established from Japanese waters are tabulated. In addition, a brief history of taxonomic research on Japanese nemerteans is reviewed.

In industry, a feedback controller with a look-up table (LUT) is often used for nonlinear systems. Although this structure is easy to understand, tuning the LUT parameters is time-consuming due to the huge number of parameters. This paper presents a direct data-driven design method for a gain-scheduled feedback controller with a LUT to directly tune the LUT parameters from single-experiment data without a system model. Specifically, conventional virtual reference feedback tuning (VRFT), which is a data-driven method, is extended and the L-2 norm for adjacent LUT parameters is added to the VRFT cost function to avoid overlearning. The optimized parameters are analytically obtained by a generalized ridge regression. A simulation of a nonlinear system demonstrates that the proposed method can directly obtain the LUT parameters without knowledge of the controlled object's characteristics.
