Delayed fracture susceptibility of 1.8 GPa-class ultra-high strength bolts was evaluated by an outdoor exposure test. Low-alloy steel bars with a chemical composition of Fe-0.4%C-2%Si-1%Cr-1%Mo (mass%) were quenched and tempered at 500 °C for 1 h, caliber-rolled at 500 °C with a rolling reduction of 78%, in order to create fail-safe steels (FS steels) with an ultrafine elongated grain structure. Subsequently, FS steel bars were formed into JIS M12 hexagon head bolts with a nominal length of 60 mm (FS bolts). Bolt heading was performed at 700~730 °C, and screw part was formed by thread-rolling at 500 °C to maintain the ultrafine grain structure with a strong <110>//rolling direction fiber texture. Conventionally quenched and tempered bolts (QT bolts) with a tempered martensitic structure were prepared for comparison. A steel plate was fastened by the bolts on 23 April 2013, and the outdoor exposure test was started on 21 May 2013 in Miyako Island test site of Japan Weathering Test Center. The bolt fastening force was 122 kN (=0.85 σ0.2 at thread part) for FS bolts and 89 kN (=0.70 σ0.2 at thread part) for QT bolts. The outdoor exposure test demonstrated an excellent delayed fracture resistance of FS bolts at the ultra-high tensile strength of 1.8 GPa; FS bolts have not been broken for 53 months, in contrast to QT bolts exhibiting delayed fracture. Intergranular cracking along the prior-austenite grain boundaries was commonly observed in the broken QT bolts. The accelerated laboratory test using tensile tests of pre-hydrogen-charged specimens and immersion test (30 °C, pH2) showed that the FS bolts had high resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, and it was in good agreement with the result of outdoor exposure test of the FS bolts.

The incremental dynamical downscaling and analysis system (InDDAS) which has been developed from the pseudo-global-warming method by appending partial functions was applied for a probabilistic regional scale climate change projection with the target regions of Kanto and Japan Alps. In InDDAS, the most reliable future state was projected by a regional climate model (RCM) simulation with an ensemble mean among the climatological increments of multiple general circulation model (GCM) simulations. In addition, the uncertainty of the future projections is estimated by RCM simulations with the multi-modal statistical increments calculated by the singular vector decomposition of the multiple GCMs. An increase of rainfall with the change ratio of 7-16 % was projected in Kanto region, where the most reliable value was 10 %. The change ratios of the vicinity quantiles of extreme rainfall was projected to be larger than that of rainfall and was almost the same as the value explained by the Clausius—Clapeyron effect.

Underground transportation is one of the most important factors for the operation of a mine which can be divided into two problems-transportation at working faces and main adits transportation.High efficiency of transportation at working faces, the author concludes, can only be attained either by adopting a well suited method to the transports employed or its opposite.Described below are the non-pillar overhand inclined long wall slicing method as an examplefor the former which uses scrapers as its main transports, and the short wall top slicing with Kappe method (accompanied with filling) as one for the latter which uses baby-conveyors as its main transports.As regards main adits transportation, however, the descriptions are made with examples based upon the comparisons of:(1) ordinary mine cars and dump cars.(2) cages and skips, and(3) belt conveyors and trolley cars.

Yellow vein of Eupatorium chinense var. simplicifolium caused by a geminivirus (Osaki and Inouye, 1979) had long been attracted attentions by some Japanese botanists and plant pathologists. A poem written by the Empress Koken on the yellow leaf of Eupatorium in the year of 752 that appeared in "Manyoshu" would be the first record in all over the world in the literature of the possible plant virus disease.

中学・高校・大学等に通う女性約8,000名のうちの約3割が「手足双方の冷え」(冷え性)を自覚し、別の約3割が「手または足の冷え」を自覚していた。全般に、中学から大学等へと就学段階が進むにつれて食生活、生活習慣、痩身意識、行動などが好ましい状況からかけ離れて行く傾向が見られた。この傾向は、大学等学生の冷え性率(冷え性自覚者の全体に占める割合)が中学生のそれよりも高く、また高校生のそれをはるかに上回っていることにも表れていた。冷え性の女性は、非冷え性の女性に比べて、先に触れた生活、意識、行動が芳しくないだけでなく、身体や精神に関する愁訴率も高いことが確認された。
