Although the main reservoir of Candida spp. is believed to be the buccal mucosa, these microorganisms can coaggregate with bacteria in subgingival biofilm and adhere to epithelial cells. Such interactions are associated with the capacity of Candida spp. to invade gingival conjunctive tissue, and may be important in the microbial colonization that contributes to progression of oral alterations caused by diabetes mellitus, some medications, and immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS. In addition, immune deficiency can result in proliferation of Candida spp. and germination of forms that are more virulent and have a higher capacity to adhere to and penetrate cells in host tissues. The virulence factors of Candida spp. increase host susceptibility to proliferation of these microorganisms and are likely to be important in the study of periodontal disease. Herein, we briefly review the literature pertaining to the role of Candida spp. in periodontal disease, and consider the main virulence factors, the host immune response to these microorganisms, and the effect of concomitant immunosuppressive conditions. Two mammalian species including Myodes rufocanus (abbreviated to ruf) and M. rex (rex) (Microtidae: Rodentia) were collected on Habomai Is. including Shikotan I. (abbreviated to Sk), Shibotsu I. (Sb) and Taraku I. (Tr) , and they were examined helminthologically. Up to now, 4 nematode species including Rhabditis orbitalis (Locality/host abbrev.: Tr/ruf) , Heligmosomum .yamagutii (Sk/ruf, Sk/rex) , Syphacia montana (Sk/ruf) and Heterakis spumosa (Sb/ruf, Tr/ruf) , and 2 cestode species Hymenolepis horrida (Sk/ruf, Sk/rex, Tr/ruf) and Anoplocephaloides sp. (Sk/ruf). This seems to be the first report of the parasitic helmitnhs from the mammalian species in the islands.

The conditional probability, P (s|x), is a statement of the probability that the event, s, will occur given prior knowledge for the value of x. If x is given and if s is randomly distributed, then an empirical approximation of the true conditional probability can be computed by the application of Bayes' Theorem. Here s represents one of two structural classes, either ordered, so, or disordered, sd, and x represents an attribute value calculated over a window of 21 amino-acids. Plots of P (slx) versus x provide information about the correlation between the given sequence attribute and disorder or order. These conditional probability plots allow quantitative comparisons between individual attributes for their ability to discriminate between order and disorder states. Using such quantitative comparisons, 38 different sequence attributes have been rank-ordered. Attributes based on cysteine, the aromatics, flexible tendencies, and charge were found to be the best attributes for distinguishing order and disorder among those tested so far.

一般に,株式価格はランダムウォークに従い,将来の価格を予測することはできない.一方,同業同規模の企業の銘柄など,株式価格が一定の差(スプレッド) を維持しながら推移するような値動きが,市場において観測されることがある.このような株式価格における現象は,共和分性として特徴付けることができる.株式価格のペアが共和分する場合,スプレッドは平均回帰性をもつ.従って,一時的にスプレッドが平均を上回る(あるいは下回る) ような状況が生じても,いずれは平均的な水準に収束することが期待される.さらに,共和分ペアが複数存在すれば,これらを利用したポートフォリオ最適化問題を考えることができる.本論文では,このような共和分性をもつ株式価格のペアを抽出し,複数のスプレッドを利用して最適ポートフォリオを構築する手法について検討する.最適ポートフォリオについては,離散時間設定における条件付き平均・分散最適化問題, および,連続時間設定における動的最適化問題の2 つの問題設定の下で計算し,実データを用いてシミュレーションを行う.さらに,離散時間設定の最適ポートフォリオに対し,取引コストやパラメータ推定期間の影響について考察する.

A 2-year-old castrated male mongrel dog presented with a well-demarcated fluctuant dermal mass, located on the back of the neck. Grossly along with cystic structures filled with a black greasy fluid, when cut open. Microscopically, the mass was multi-lobulated. The lobules consisted of neoplastic basaloid cells and showed central degeneration, forming multiple central cystic structures filled with dark melanin-pigmented materials. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were strongly positive for CK14 and partially positive for CK19, but negative for CK7, CK8/18, CD34, S-100, Melan-A and α-SMA. Based on the findings, the present case was diagnosed as a feline-type basal cell tumor characterized by cystic structures filled with abundant black fluid.

The aim of this study was to analyze the molecular structure of enamel with fluorosis using micro-Raman spectroscopy and compare it with that of healthy enamel. Eighty extracted human molars were classified into four fluorosis groups according to the Thylstrup-Fejerskov Index (TFI) [TFI: 0, Healthy enamel; 1-3, mild; 4-5, moderate; 6-9, severe fluorosis]. All samples were analyzed by micro-Raman spectroscopy. The integral areas of ν1 (960 cm−1) phosphate peak as well as B-type carbonate peak (1070 cm−1) were obtained to analyze structural differences among the specimens. Although the differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05), the mean of integral areas of ν1 phosphate peak among groups indicated greater mineralization in the severe fluorosis group. However, there were statistically significant differences in the intensities, and the integral areas of B-type carbonate peak among groups (P < 0.05). Therefore, mineralization of the carbonate peak at 1070 cm−1 decreased significantly in fluorotic groups, suggesting that carbonate ions are easily dissolved in the presence of fluoride. Although structurally fluorotic teeth are not more susceptible to dental caries, serious alteration in its surface topography may cause retention of bacterial plaque and formation of enamel caries. Micro-Raman spectroscopy is a useful tool for analyzing the molecular structure of healthy and fluorotic human enamel. (J Oral Sci 54, 93-98, 2012)

学術論文ロシアの実践的日本学の創始者の一人であるD. ポズドネエフは、日本学的研究を始めたのは、1890年代の半ばのことである。当時、日清戦争のため日本は、ヨーロッパのマスコミの注目の的となり、D. ポズドネエフは、日本に関する資料を収集し始め、1896年、日本に係わる最初の著作『西欧の文献における日本の現在と将来』が世に現れた。その後、1906、1909、1911、1924、1925年、日本学及び日露関係に関する著作は次々と刊行された。本稿では、上記の作品の内容を分析し、日本研究者としてのD. ポズドネエフの功績を明らかにしようとしている。
