The objective of this study is to clarify the principle of the most stable position in the skydiving freefall. As the first step, the simulation method to analyze the dynamic behavior for freefall has been developed by the authors. In this report, an optimizing calculation to maximize an objective function with respect to the stability in the freefall is conducted. It is found that the most stable position becomes arched one. Next, the simple configuration that consists of 20 cylinders is optimized, and the angle to maximize restoring moment about each cylinder element is calculated and compared with optimized angle.

The objective of this study was to develop a simulation method for analysis of body behavior in skydiving freefall and to clarify the most stable body position during the freefall. The details of the developed simulation method were firstly described. Using the simulation method, we conducted an optimizing calculation to maximize an objective function with respect to the stability in the freefall. It was found that the most stable position became arched one. In order to clarify the reason why the most stable position became arched, optimization with respect to a simple shaped object which consists of 20 cylinders was conducted. Then the angle to maximize the restoring moment for each cylinder element was analytically calculated and compared with the optimized angle. From the results, we conclude that the most stable position becomes arched mainly since the restoring moment at each part itself becomes maximum at that angle. We also conclude that the magnitude of the arch in the most stable position is determined by the ratio of the normal and tangential drag coefficients.

The theoretical study was carried out to clarify the mechanism of bubble formation through a submerged nozzle in upward water flow. On the basis of the experimental results, a model of breakup of the air column in which the surface membrane is oscillating at the top of the nozzle due to the disturbance of flow was proposed. The size of the bubble generated from a nozzle in a stream ranging from Nozzle Reynolds number 1500 to 15000 was determined by applying the theory of the instability of a jet which was first analyzed by Lord Rayleigh. The proposed model is in good agreement with the experimental results.

In this study, scheduling method using a combination of auction-type real-time scheduling and simulation is proposed in order to automate the scheduling in dynamically changing manufacturing environment. The control mechanism which is essential for executing real-time scheduling and simulation simultaneously is developed and implemented. The auction algorithm for the real-time scheduling which improves the delay of delivery date and amount of setup time at the same time is proposed. Also the method of simulation during the real-time scheduling which can predict the changing situation of the shop and automatically take countermeasures by adjusting the scheduling precondition is proposed and its effectiveness is confirmed by computational experiments. With these methods, prototype system is developed and tested under the condition of actual machining line. As a result, it is clarified that the proposed system has the ability to respond flexibly to dynamically changing manufacturing situation.

In general, manual sorting carries out for the quality inspection of corbicula shells prior to shipment. The inspection worker drops each corbicula shells on the concrete floor, and a shell is assessed as good or bad by the sound of collision with floor. The corbicula shell containing mud or nothing is specified as a bad corbicula. This manual sorting process is time consuming and laborious. In addition, this process is often prone to mistakes. In order to overcome the problem of manual sorting, an inspection probe has been developed. The inspection probe assesses a corbicula shell as good or bad by detecting the transmitted light spectra, and it has been tested that the probe can detect good and bad corbicula shells with an accuracy of 100%. Thereafter, a quality sorting device with the inspection probe has been developed for the commercial use. A laboratory based experiments have been conducted first to evaluate the performance of developed quality sorting device. The test results showed that the sorting device can sort shells with an accuracy of about 99%. Subsequently, a comprehensive evaluation experiment have also been carried out, and the experimental results showed that our developed sorting device is able to sort corbicula shells with an accuracy of 98.6%. This results implies that the present quality sorting device is ready to use for commercial sorting of corbicula shells

Hunting oscillation is unfavorable to the running stability because it can generate relatively large lateral force between the wheels and tracks. In addition, once hunting oscillation occurs, it lasts until the running speed is reduced to some degree. Therefore, we have studied global stability against hunting oscillation by conducting hunting motion tests using a real bogie on roller rigs. In this study, we confirmed that there exists a clear point where initial lateral displacement of the wheelset caused hunting oscillation. Then, we concluded that the point in question originated from unstable limit cycles, generated by subcritical Hopf bifurcation. On the basis of the obtained global stability, we devised a simple method that could make the hunting oscillation converge to the equilibrium point by oscillating the roller rig, without slowing down the rotational speed of roller rigs.

Marine debris causes deleterious effects on the environment and economy. It is still a difficult task to efficiently collect marine debris floating on the sea surface. We previously proposed a semi-automatic collection system of marine debris using an underwater robot. However, the success rate is low due to the complicated operations required to collect marine debris. In this research, we propose to use a suction mechanism to simplify the operation of collecting marine debris that enables the underwater robot to collect just by approaching it. The experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed system with respect to the success rate and time of collection.

This paper deals with a driving stability analysis method of a kart considering an elastic deformation of the kart frame. The stiffness matrix of the kart frame was calculated with the finite element method, and the vertical load of each tire simulation was analyzed with this stiffness matrix. In addition, the vertical load distribution was examined with tests to validate the stiffness matrix, and it was confirmed that the experimental results agree with simulation results. Furthermore, the driving stability was evaluated with simulations, and it was observed that the elastic deformation of the kart frame effects on the steering characteristic.

We researched concerning the new energy technology of producing the hydrogen gases with the organic refuse by using sunlight and phototropic bacteria. Electricity can be generated by supplying the produced hydrogen gases to the fuel cell. Hydrogen production efficiency enough to put it to practical use has not been obtained in the past though a full-scale experiment for the hydrogen production that uses algae and the microorganism that does the photosynthesis has been conducted. That is, the cost performance for practical use is not obtained. We did an experimental research that used the wavelength conversion material of sunlight and the optical reflection material of the aluminum foil as a method for the efficiency gain of the hydrogen production. As a result, the design parameter of the system to produce hydrogen with the waste fluid by using the purple non-sulfur bacteria that carried out photosynthesis was able to be decided. Substrate (The sugar manufacture waste fluid: [Molasses]) dosage in which the highest incidence of hydrogen was obtained was 0.4mg/100kcells*day for the pure culture system. Moreover, the improvement of the hydrogen production efficiency of about 15% was obtained in the maximum with a light wave length conversion net. A design parameter of the biomass hydrogen energy production system and basic data concerning the efficiency gain of the system were able to be obtained from the above-mentioned results.

In the case of engine bearings, pressure in a cylinder is necessary for the analysis of lubrication. In this study, a cycle simulation of gasoline engines has been developed to predict the pressure in a cylinder under the wide range of engine operation. In the cycle simulation, intake and exhaust processes are included and combustion process is calculated with flame propagation based on burning velocity. The pressure in the cylinder is introduced into the bearing analysis to calculate the load on the bearing in addition to the inertia force. Orbital movement, minimum oil film thickness, and power loss in the bearing are estimated. This method may be useful on an engine design.

Current fatigue evaluation in PWR environment is determined by JSME S NF1 in which some parameters (temperature, strain rate, dissolved oxygen, etc.) are evaluated as an influencing factor. However, it is assumed that JSME Code would be conservative in high strain rate region because environmental factor (F_<en>) is evaluated by extrapolating experimental test results in low strain (up to 0.4%/sec). In this study, we obtained the experimental data and reevaluated F_<en> for high strain rate region. As a result, we confirmed that F_<en>, in 1.0%/sec strain rate was about one half of that in JSME Code. Further, marshaled experimental data got from EFT project dividing them to each stainless grade and charge, strain rate for F_<en>=1 could be lower than 3%/sec for all austenitic stainless steel and similar to current test result.

The car is a main means of transportation all over the world. However, many people drive a car when they travel a short distance alone, that is inefficient in cost and space. Then, personal mobility vehicle (PMV), which is one or two-seater and has high environmental performance, is recently gathering attention. We focus on the three-wheeled vehicle with leaning mechanism called Narrow Tilting Vehicle (NTV) or narrow tilting three-wheeled (NTTW). Leaning mechanism, which gives tires degree of freedom, has an effect of stable cornering in the case of short tread width vehicle. To compere the motion of each leaning mechanism, we model the two types of NTV. One has two front frame which are linked to vehicle body by the arm and rotating respectively around the joint. The other one has a front frame that has two tires connected by the link. We derived equation of motion by referring to Sharp’s 4 DOF two-wheeled vehicle model, and carried out the three kinds of numerical analysis, eigenvalue analysis, modal analysis and running simulation. Through eigenvalue and modal analysis, we find out that NTVs have the same modes as Sharp’s 4 DOF model does, and they have the characteristic mode which vibrates steering and leaning mechanism. By running simulation, NTVs required larger steering torque than two-wheeled vehicle when the vehicle turn at the same angle.

Various researches are conducted to reduce the influence of winds and waves for safer work environment on offshore operations and to negate the tilt due to acceleration of vehicle for improved comfortableness. Conventional researches have adopted active mechanism like six-degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism that absorbs the sway by constantly keeping its motion base horizontal to suppress such influences. However, current swing machines require vast areas to be installed since their swing mechanisms are large and their bottom structures are thick. Here, we propose a new swing mechanism “Omni-Swing” which is relatively thin and can be applied to curved surfaces. The mechanism is embodied to a real machine and experiments are conducted to verify its basic characteristic in this paper.
