    In this research, we focused on the competitive balance in the open league. We aimed to find out the effect of the league system’ s change, with or without new entries, and find out the relationship between wages and competitive balance. This research analyzed the J. League (Japan Professional Football League) , which changed from a closed league to an open league, and the English Premier League, which changed the revenue structure and increased its turnover in recent years. To measure competitive balance, we used the Herfindahl Index of Competitive Balance (HICB) , the Five Club Concentration Index of Competitive Balance (C5 index) . As a result, it was found that in the Premier League, competitive balance has declined in recent years. But in the J. League, on the other hand, after 1999, the year that the Second tier (J2) was made and the League adopted the promotion and relegation system, competitive balance slowly increased. Imbalance of Wages in the Premier League was substantially larger than in the J. League. From these results, we made a suggestion that adoption of a promotion and relegation system is one of the factors which improve competitive balance.

A longitudinal survey of university soccer competitions investigated whether competition results influenced Life Skills (LS) acquisition. We selected coaches in the second division (A-League) of the Kansai Student Soccer League that were similar in age, years of coaching, and coaching achievements for a longitudinal study. The study investigated the relationship between competition results and LS in participants coached by these coaches at three time-points in May, August, and December. Students from A and B universities (N = 90) participated in the study. The results indicated no significant differences between the two universities in the first-semester competition results, whereas large differences were indicated in the second semester. LS sub-factors′ mean values, “goal setting” and “always making one′s best effort” in December were significantly higher in University B than A. These results indicated that competition results temporarily increased LS. Previous studies have suggested that LS acquisition might determine competition results, and competition results and LS acquisition might influence each other. On the other hand, “appreciating others” in the two universities was significantly lower in August than in May, regardless of competition results, possibly because games are suspended in August. Having no family or friends to cheer the students might reduce their opportunities for thanking surrounding people. It is suggested that coaches take the initiative to teach students the critical role of feeling grateful to surrounding people at these times.

The Japanese professional soccer league, J-League, has organized and conducted annually a Rookie Transition Program since its inaugural season of 1993. In the 2004 season, rookie players were required to attend a 3-day-symposium, to pass an examination in the laws of the game and to do some voluntary work in the local community and at the stadium. The aims of the Rookie Transition Program are to make rookie players aware of what a professional athlete should be, to assist them to adopt smoothly a new life as a professional athlete and to make them appreciate the value of the J-League. After re-examining the J-League's previous programs and researching the Rookie Transition Program of the National Basketball Association and the National Football League, both of which are the most successful professional sports leagues in the U.S., the J-League came up with the following policies : 1) not to teach what the J-League wants to teach, but let them feel what players need to know, 2) to make each session short and entertaining, and 3) to deal with as many topics to learn as possible. This paper explains how the J-League planned and evaluated the 2004 Rookie Transition Program. The purposes of this study are to search for better methods for conducting the J-League Rookie Transition Program and to design a model for the rookie transition programs in professional sports leagues.

The purpose of this research was to clarify the factors related with student satisfaction and the requirements for career development for Japan’s first English sport management graduate program that fosters international sport managers, and the ideal graduate program necessary to develop human resources who can play an active role as leaders in the international sport world in Japan. A chi-square test was performed by cross tabulating each factor to clarify the relationship between “total satisfaction” and “satisfaction” of individual categories, “total career necessity”, and “career necessity” of individual categories according to the results of the TIAS graduate survey. The results indicate that there is a significant difference in the satisfaction level of the subjects in Olympic and Paralympic education and a common ground between the high group and the non-high group of total satisfaction of the graduates as a factor that affects satisfaction level. In addition, for services other than lecture content, there was a significant difference in terms of “Quality of lectures”, “Opportunities for good communication with lecturers” and “High academic support for lecture’s students”, which also represent high and non-high groups of overall satisfaction. Conversely, from the viewpoint of the career requirements of graduates, the content of the lectures differs from the satisfaction of graduates, and all lectures in the “Sport management field” have a significant difference between the high group and the non-high group of comprehensive career requirements. In addition, for services other than lecture content, unlike the results obtained regarding satisfaction, there was also a significant difference in the quality of opportunity provision between the high and the non-high group overall career needs groups and “Quality of external collaboration”, “Quality of industry network”, “Quality of students”, “Quality of administrative service” and “Quality of providing career opportunities”.

The Israel Baseball League (IBL) that started in the summer of 2007 is one example of the expanding of sports in recent years that has an increasing relation with capital. Most IBL players come from outside of Israel. Players from developed countries participate in the league by using the vacation for their self-actualization. On the contrary, players from developing nations come to obtain provisions of life. This means a "CenterPeripheral" relation is occurring, from the areas where professional baseball has been played to the baseball-barren "Deterritorialized" world of Israel. It is thought Jewish nationalism is a great factor supporting the professional league which suddenly started in Israel, where profits can't be expected from the baseball business. In fact, the IBL carries out the function of getting U.S. immigrants to imagine solidarity with the Jewish community in the native state. At present, professional baseball is in the process of developing a global aspect, supported by the MLB, and in North America a business model of "Independent Leagues" that supplements this flow has appeared. It can be said that the IBL is one of the "Independent Leagues" that is also expanding globally. Though sports have spread from "Central" to "Peripheral" nations as a cultural event before, the current expansion is being accomplished as one of the systems of production. We can see one aspect of how globalization has influenced of sports from this example of IBL.

This study deals with factors affecting the migration of J.League players. The purpose of this study is to describe the reasons why J.League players transfer to foreign football clubs. The data of this study were collected from Internet websites, magazines, newspapers, books that the players published, and statistical reports. In this study, 107 cases were gathered. First in this study, the history of the migration of Japanese football players during 1975-2003 is described and the numbers of cases and the destinations of the players are explained. The pattern of the migration is divided into three periods. The first period is from 1975 to 1992. This period was before the launching of the J.League. In Japan, there had not been any professional football players before 1986. Therefore, small numbers of migration, just 20 cases were found. The second period was from 1993 to 1997. In this period, J.League was started, however because the Japanese national team had never qualified for the World Cup, the reputation of Japanese players was not so high. The last period was after 1998. In this period, the Japanese national team could qualify for the France World Cup and Nakata, Hidetoshi succeeded in playing for the Italian club, 'Perugia'. In this period, the numbers of the migrations of the J.League players greatly increased. This study also shows some factors affecting the migration of the J.League players. The factors were divided into psychological factors, skill and adaptation factors, and socioinstitutional factors. Moreover, our findings regarding these factors support McGovern's paper of 2002.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This paper proposes a measurement system and computation method for 3D motion analysis in sports. The measurement system that consists of inertial and magnetic field sensors is able to measure 3-axis angular velocity, 3-axis acceleration and 3-axis magnetic field. We can easily perform the experiment in sports because this system is directly attached to the body. Introducing the sensor fusion algorithm using Kalman filter, we can avoid storage error by the drift of the gyro sensor. The computation method provides the angles by compensation of centrifugal and tangential acceleration and sensor fusion. <BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In order to confirm the accuracy of this proposed system and computation method, we compared the value obtained by this system with the value obtained by a rotary encoder. It was found that the measurement system and computation method provided the accurate value. It is shown that the proposed method can be used for motion analysis in sports.

Japan's unique corporate sports system has greatly contributed to the development and promotion of sports in Japan. However, due to the worsening economic development, the environment surrounding corporate sports organizations has been changing drastically. Especially, that of ball sports, among corporate sports, is very difficult. Given the change, it is necessary for sports organizations to understand behavioral and psychological characteristics of their spectators in order to set out significant marketing strategies for effective provision of sports products. In terms of understanding the characteristics, many previous researchers discuss the importance of finding and choosing an appropriate target market through segmentation of spectators in sports. Consequently, this study focused on the motivation of sports spectators. The purposes of this study were to understand the behavioral and psychological characteristics, segment by segment, and to compare and contrast the characteristics of spectators among everal sports leagues in Japan top ball sports. Scales based on the Sport Interest Inventory (SII) were used in this study. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted first to detect the motivation factors of sports spectators, and then non hierarchical cluster analysis, using mean scores of each motivation factor, was conducted for classification of the spectators. The findings of this study reveal the existence of 10 factors regarding sports spectators' motivation, and be able to classify sports spectators into 5 clusters; "Fixed Fan" "Social Fan" "Potential Spectator" "Normal Spectator" and "Active Fan" according to the tendency of the mean scores and the demographic characteristics. Some implications were suggested from the study for further development of Japan's top sports.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The aim of this study was to verify the hypothesis that the inhabitants who have higher spectating intention or behavior at sporting events in their hometown hold higher place attachment.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Through the comparison of place attachment among the inhabitants, significant differences have been found. The inhabitants who have higher spectating intention hold a higher degree of place attachment. Moreover, the inhabitants who have experience of spectating behavior hold a higher degree of place attachment than those who do not have it.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The results of this study indicate some existence of the relationship between spectating intentions or behaviors at sporting events, and place attachment. However, the cause and effect relationship between them has not been established clearly. It is necessary to make continuous research targeted at the inhabitants.

The spectators attending sports in a stadium, who are the object of this study, are indispensable for professional sports. The purpose of this paper was to clarify the factors related to the frequency of stadium attendance. The factors clarified will be important materials to marketing managers regarding customer retention. The data was collected through questionnaires distributed to 362 people(men=180, women=182) who had been to the stadiums once or more in 1993 to watch the franchise games of Sanfrecce Hiroshima, which is one of the teams in the Japan Professional Soccer League. The procedure of this study was, first, to examine which items are related to the frequency of stadium attendance by applying X2 test and hypothesis testing of Kendall's rank correlation to the data, and second, to identify which factors affected the frequency by using multiple regression analysis . As the result, there were three factors affecting the frequency of stadium attendance : the number of the players the spectators knew by name, the time required to get to the stadiums, and the degree to which the spectators regarded themselves as supporters.

In June 2014 an agreement of cooperation was signed among the Paralympic Organizing Committee and 552 universities in regard to the promotion and planning of the Olympics movement for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The object of this study was to clarify the challenges for the organizing committee and university cooperation projects in preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics tournament, based on business examples from the Nagano Olympics. As a result of this study, it has been possible to create an environment for sharing information and planning the development of the tournaments of the Paralympics Games based on cooperation and sharing of information from the Nagano Olympics, the Games Organizing Committee, and local universities at the time of the Paralympic Games. Furthermore, to enable information exchange with the organizing committee, training and participation of tournament volunteers has been carried out. In light of this it is considered that, for the 2020 tournaments, it is important to carry out information exchange in cooperation with the business plan of the organization and the Games Organizing Committee and with the cooperation of each university.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The aim of our investigation was to clarify the achievement situation and features regarding the experiences and results of players who take active parts in the highest ranked football leagues in Japan, Europe, and South American countries.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The average age of players in J-League changed, showing an upward trend, and recorded a peak in the 2014 season (26.85 years), and was higher by 3.80 years than that of Dutch league, which had the lowest value. And in the generation category, the age composition ratio of J-League players showed the lowest values: U 17 (0.57%), U 20 (9.28%) and U 23 (15.34%). And regarding the appearance fraction ratio by age, J-League players also showed the lowest values: U 17 (0.02%), U 20 (3.43%) and U 23 (14.01%). Their U 30 value (78.94%) was near the lowest value-that of Italian league, and their O 31 value (21.06%) was next to the peak-that of Italian league.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In other words, J-League showed lower levels of achievement by young players and a higher average age, in comparison to the leagues in other countries.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;One of the factor became clear was that the player production fostered by the "Japan Original System," in which players become professionals after playing at university, is an increasing tendency. Furthermore, other countries such as Germany value the appearance chances of the young generation players and strengthen the upbringing of young players in their own leagues. Thus Japanese players&rsquo; experience is behind the age schedule in comparison to other countries and this is having an influence on the clubs and the league, and on competitions with other Asian area teams, and on international matches.

This study examined the means to encourage collaboration strategy with various local community actors through public sports facility management organizations. Such a collaboration strategy is aimed at activities which consist of local contribution activities provided by public sports facility management organizations and activities that stimulate the local community support for the local contribution activities. This strategy should make it possible to improve the operation of public sports facilities.    The study focused on two baseball fields of comparable scale, located in neighboring cities and managed by a local company that specializes in farm equipment sales. We conducted semi-structured interviews with the following informants: (1) the president and staff of the managing company, (2) administrative officers of the cities, (3) staff members at the two baseball fields, and (4) various local community actors who collaborate with the company.    The major findings were as follows: First, it is important for local governments to adopt appropriate policies, such as granting partial management responsibility for public sports facilities to organizations experienced in facilities management to ensure flexible, competent management based on a collaboration strategy with the various local community actors. Second, collaboration strategy with the local community various actors is important for producing two desirable outcomes: (1) it can reduce costs by building relationships of trust with local community various actors, and (2) it can also thereby build trust with the local government and can have a positive effect on public sports facility management organizations.
