At the end of the XIX century a fundamental rethinking of the principles of conservation of works of art has been proposed by Alois Riegl. Anyone before has devoted his attention to the analysis of the basic reasons of a restoration. In accordance with the rigorous discipline of the restoration, Riegl focused his interest on ethical, political, sociological, moral and cultural reasons giving more emphasis on the stability of the values of the work and not on the purely aesthetic subjective assessment. The principal purpose is the preservation of existing values in monuments. The recognition of the values can be seen as the principal reference of a good job of preservation and is primarily supported by the urban scale. In Italy Roberto Di Stefano in the book "Monuments and Values" (1996) addresses his attention to this issue whereas the document "Recommendation on the Conservation of the Historic Urban Landscape" is an important document to analyze the role of values for the Conservation and Preservation of the city and its monuments. In a social context increasingly pressed from global interests often unrelated to the identity of the individual, it is difficult to speak on the conservation of the heritage (monumental and urban) if we not identify the values to be preserved that, at the same time, meet the needs of the community. The contribution intends to tackle the analysis of the Value. With reference to the Recommendation on the Conservation of the Historic Urban Landscape, the contribution intends to propose a methodological reflection on the values that are the basis of the definition of Heritage. Values that are necessary to know in detail to implement a sustainable conservation of monuments and cities

In our entertainment VR application, the user can move freely through a virtual city by using a web like SpidermanTM. In this application, the user wears a web shooter, which is a device to shoot webs, and takes aim at a target building. Then, when the user swings his/her arm ahead, a web is launched and it sticks to the target building on the screen. After the web sticks to the building, the user's arm is pulled in the direction of the target building by a pulling force feedback system, which gives the feeling of pulling to the user directly and smoothly, as if he/she were attached to an elastic string. Finally, the user moves to the target building. In three exhibitions, we surveyed the effectiveness of the application by questionnaire. We were able to confirm that a lot of users had enjoyed and were satisfied with our VR application.

There is increasing pressure on Japanese universities and research institutions to actively promote their research outcomes to global audiences. One factor driving this phenomenon is increasing global competition among states and organizations for highly-qualified individuals. The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) has set itself the task of becoming a“ world-leading center of knowledge” and there is an awareness within the university of the need to reach a wider audience both domestically and globally to achieve this objective. The university’s Public Relations Office established “UTokyo Research” in 2010 to promote the university’s research domestically and internationally and to nurture personnel able to support the dissemination of research outcomes. This paper introduces the origin and development of UTokyo Research and the efforts of the university’s Public Relations Office to promote research outcomes in English to a global audience.

Hokkai Cave was discovered in 2006 in southwestern Hokkaido, northern Japan, and has been conserved in its natural condition. This paper reports the results of a basic speleological study of the cave's environment conducted during 2006–2009, including a geomorphological survey, monitoring of cave air temperature, airflow and groundwater currents, and an initial interpretation of the cave's speleogenesis. These basic cave data are important to help improve palaeoclimatic speleothem sample selection, because speleothem geochemistry is also controlled by cave geometry and micro-meteorology. Hokkai Cave is a 479.8m-long, zigzag, horizontal system, with two entrances. The cave floor is mainly covered with clay, gravels and breakdown blocks. An underground river flows in the centre of the cave and a dry riverbed, and many springs and dolines are present around the cave. Pure white stalagmites in the cave are possibly suitable for use in Asian Summer Monsoon reconstruction studies. Air temperature in the inner cave (>15m from entrances) was stable throughout the year (7.5–7.7°C); in contrast, air temperature near the entrance was variable because of the influence of the outside air temperature. Inversion of airflow direction is driven by the air temperature gradient between the inside and the outside of the cave. When air temperature inside is warmer than outside, air flows from Ent.U (upper) to Ent.L (lower) and from Ent.U to the inside. When air temperature outside is warmer than inside, air flows from Ent.L to Ent.U and from the inner cave to Ent.U. These results agree with findings from previous studies. Inversion of airflow direction also affects the variation pattern of air temperature near the entrances. Monitoring also indicates that the underground river is usually dry except after heavy rainfall or snow melting.

ジュディス・バトラーにとって、スピノザは重要な思想家である。実際、バトラーは『ジェンダーをほどく』(2004年)で「スピノザのコナトゥスは私自身の作品の核心でありつづけている」(Butler 2004, 198)と述べている。それでは、いかなる意味でスピノザのコナトゥスはバトラーの哲学の「核心」にあるのか。本論文は、前回の論文「ジュディス・バトラーにおけるスピノザの行方(上)―「社会存在論」への道」に引き続きこの問題を考察するものであり、とりわけバトラーの「倫理学」に焦点を当てて探求するものである。私たちはこれらの考察の結果、バトラーの倫理学においてコナトゥスが基盤的な役割を担っていること、また、スピノザの徳がバトラーの考える倫理のモチーフのひとつであることを見出すことになるだろう。

Grifonとは、制約に基づくアニメーション作成システムである。Grifonは、従来のアニメーションツールとは違い、ハイブリッド並行制約と幾何制約によってアニメーションを表現する。 本研究の目的は、Grifonにおけるハイブリッド並行制約と幾何制約が矛盾し合う制約過多な状況でも適切な最適解を得られるようにするため、ハイブリッド並行制約と幾何制約に優先度を付随させ、制約階層を実現することである。 本研究では、Grifonにおける制約データ設計、制約処理系の改良を行った。制約の階層化を行うことで、ユーザーが制約の矛盾性を気にすることなく制約を扱えるようになった。また、制約の優先度を付随させることで、アニメーションの拡張性を実現した。具体的にはGrifonにおいてハイブリッド並行制約優先のアニメーション、幾何制約優先のアニメーションを表現した。
