We describe a simple setup to observe H2O ice VI single crystals under high pressure by using transparent Bridgman anvils with a compact hydraulic oil cylinder. It is confirmed that growth and melting of the ice VI single crystal was clearly observed as reported in diamond anvil cell experiments. Furthermore, this setup allows students starting to learn high pressure experiments to understand the opposed anvil technique because the anvils are not only easy to manipulate but also visible even when pressure is generated.

Euprosopia matsudai sp. nov. is described and figured from Japan with the key to the three allied species, E. longifacies HENDEL (from Formosa), E. grahami MALLOCH (from Japan), and E. aureovestita FREY (from India). Platystoma japonicum HORI is synonymized with E. grahami.

東日本大震災においては,津波等を原因とする多数の行方不明者が発生した。迅速・適切な被災者支援が急務となり,生命保険においては,行方不明者を被保険者とする死亡保険について,家族の心情への配慮を大前提としたうえで,迅速かつ適切に保険金を支払うことが課題となった。民法の危難失踪宣告や戸籍法の認定死亡等,行方不明と死亡に係る既存の法制度等に基づく対応は困難となっていたが,結局,東日本大震災の行方不明者については,戸籍法86条3項の死亡届の手続が簡易化されるに至り,これに基づいて,多くの保険金支払が実行されている。

第1回国際ペンギン会議が, 1988年8月, ニュージーランド, オタゴ大学で開催された。123名が参加し, 口頭発表, 展示発表合わせて53の論文が提出された。アデリーペンギン属, エンペラーペンギン属の5種のペンギンの発表論文が, そのうち22を占め, これらのペンギンが主たる研究対象となっていることを示していた。海中におけるペンギンの行動研究の手段として, 深度計, 電波による追跡装置が関心の的であった。これらの装置を用いて, 採餌, エネルギーの移動の研究が進められている。ロス海における, アデリーペンギンの長期個体数変動調査の結果が, 南極海洋生態系を知る手掛かりとなるものとして評価された。ニュージーランドに生息するキガシラペンギンの個体数減少が報告された。

Based on the studying and manufacturing of the NIAS G-1 glider reported in the former paper, the NIAS G-3 to G-5 gliders were newly designed and manufactured by the students, then the G-5 glider participated in the 22nd Birdman Rally Contest. Before designing these gliders, a few kinds of studies were carried out such as comparative flight tests of the delta wing typed, swept wing typed and ordinary wing typed gliders as well as wind tunnel tests of some kinds of wing sections. This paper deals with the details of the studies mentioned above and reports the results of the Birdman Rally Contest.
